League of Extraordinary Gentlemen [Primer]

Commander / EDH Counters GWUB Midrange Primer Superfriends

This is my Atraxa superfriends deck. I've spent a lot of time working on this deck trying to make it the best I can. This is a super fun deck that can do lots of different things so it keeps you from getting bored with it. I would love to hear what upgrades you kind folk recommend for this deck.

  • Strong late game and inevitability

  • Ability to handle stax strategies

  • Unaffected by creature hate and pillowfort strategies

  • Generates immense card advantage, board presence, and value over time

  • Weak to early game aggro and fast combo

  • Slow early game

  • Mana intensive

  • Difficult to pilot (requires proper planning and threat assessment)

  • Draws hate from everyone (often resulting in archenemy)

The plan is simple... Ult the walkers... Doubling Season and Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider are a way to make sure we can ult most as soon as they enter the battlefield. The main walkers you will want to ult are the Tamiyo's and Ugin. Once you ult Ugin the value you receive will put you way ahead of your opponent's. Once the deck pops off some of the things you are able to do (depending on what you have out at the time) are infinitely activate planeswalkers, infinitely cast spells, draw your library, exile your opponent's boards and much more.... This deck is super fun once it goes off because there are so many things it can do.
  • Tamiyo, Field Researcher + Tamiyo, the Moon Sage: The emblems from both of these together allows you to cast any instant or sorcery spells from your hand as much so you want for free.

  • Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth: This is a simple two card ramp combo. I prefer this over having more artifacts that tap for colorless for a few reasons. The first is that lands are generally harder to remove, the next is even though I don't have lots of things that require black mana I can still use it as generic mana if I don't have spells to cast requiring black mana.

  • Teferi, Temporal Archmage + The Chain Veil: This is a pretty straight forward combo where you use teferi to untap 4 permanents then reactivate the chain veil allowing you to activate loyalty abilities multiple times.

  • If this deck is something that interests you but maybe the price is out of your range I have made a budget version of the decklist. Budget Superfriends

    • Damnation cut for Damn: This is a pretty obvious change Damn is a more flexible card to use, I can either use it as target removal or as a full wipe. Damnation was added to the maybe board because I would still like to have it in the deck I just need to figure out what to cut for it now.

Another card I would like to possibly add is Carth the Lion i'm just not sure what I would cut for it. If anyone has any suggestions on what to cut for it I would appreciate that.

I decided to make a couple cuts just to try out some new things and see how I like it...

    • Heroic Intervention cut for Counterspell: I decided to make this change because Heroic Intervention is often a dead card in my hands. My purpose for running it was to protect key cards, such as Doubling Season, from target removal or something similar. Counterspell is better in my opinion because I can just counter whatever it is they are casting. It also gives me more counter magic to prevent opponents from doing whatever it is they are trying to do.

    • Noble Hierarch cut for Birds of Paradise: Simple... BoP is strictly better and I should have been running it instead this whole time

    • Reki, the History of Kamigawa cut for Carth the Lion: This may not be a permanent change, it all depends on how worth it Carth the Lion is to keep in the deck. I decided to cut Reki because I don't really struggle with card draw and he doesn't draw me very much.

I decided I wanted to take a slightly new route with the deck while keeping the Superfriends theme intact. I ended up cutting some cards that just were not super useful in the deck and were not used a lot and added some more creatures that deal with +1/+1 counters. I've played it a few times with the updates and haven't noticed any changes to how is performs, the only big difference is now I have some more creatures I can do things with while I'm setting up my planeswalkers.
