Elenda, the Dusk Rose started off as a rework of my former Edgar Markov deck. Edgar got to the point where there was too many people in the playgroup with the deck so everyone knew the strategies of the deck. When Rivals of Ixilan came around a new Vampire commander was released which was Elenda. At first I created her as a vampire deck to use up cards from the precon Edgar set. Then it took a toon creating my favorite deck I have ever created being a sacrifice based combo deck.

Before we go into the deck first it is important to go over the commander, Elenda, the Dusk Rose. Elenda cost for a 1/1 Vampire that reads, Whenever another creature dies, put a +1/+1 counter on Elenda, the Dusk Rose. and When Elenda dies, create X 1/1 white Vampire creature tokens with lifelink, where X is Elendas power. The first ability allows Elenda to get big fast. Allowing her to either swing for commander damage or rack up power for the second ability. She also has lifelink so any hit will also gain you life in the process. What makes Elenda Avery different commander from any other commander is the second ability. She creates 1/1 Vampires with lifelink equal to her power. The catch is she has to die, which means she will need to go to the graveyard vs back to the command zone. So when making an Elenda deck the biggest thing to think about is graveyard retrieval.

Moving on the the main deck we will first talk about the creatures. Each creature in the deck is divided up into categories depending on their uses. The first and most important category is the sacrifice creature outlet. In order to make Elenda big, creatures must die. Some creatures allow for a free sac outlet such as Viscera Seer and Sadistic Hypnotist while others will require additional costs such as Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim and Indulgent Aristocrat. Next category is the damage outlets containing creatures such as Blood Artist. These creatures are very important in the deck creating a way to kill the opponent. The last main category is a very interesting one that isnt seen in too many decks. Its creature spawning from deaths of nontokens. Cards such as Ogre Slumlord, Pawn of Ulamog and Requiem Angel. The rest of the creatures are either fodder or utility to help in the deck.

The instants and sorcery category in Elenda consists of only the best. You want removal, then we got it. Path to Exile, Anguished Unmaking, Return to Dust, Austere Command and many more. Having problems getting what you need? Use a tutor such as the iconic Demonic Tutor or even a sac outlet tutor, Diabolic Intent. Grab the combos you need to win the game and go for gold. Another important mentions in the deck are Exsanguinate and Debt to the Deathless if you wish to drain your opponents out. Stuck in a stick situation and Teferi's Protection is there to save the day.

Artifacts and enchantments are basically where value is very important. I could have easily gone with the Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood combo but I decided to come up with a new combo, fresh from the plane of Ixilan. This being obviously an infinite combo using Elenda herself and Animation Module with Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar. The combo does require a creature to sacrifice or an opponents creature to die with an open mana source. Animation module works with Elenda allowing you to pay 1 mana whenever a counter is placed on her to create a 1/1 Servo token. Then you kill the Servo with one of the Altars, causing a counter to be placed on Elenda and mana to create another Servo. The combo goes infinite causing infinite sacrifices and infinite counters. You could kill some one using a Blood Artist like creature or even swing your next turn with infinite 1/1 Vampires with lifelink if you sacrifice Elenda. However the deck isnt just looking for infinite combos with my artifacts and enchantments. Some times you need utility. Just to name a few of the bests, Lifeline, Blade of the Bloodchief, Anointed Procession and Black Market.

This deck is designed to either play competitively and win in a few turns or even have some fun casual play trying to see how many creatures you can create.

Hope you guys enjoy this deck build and feel free to make an Elenda of your own.
