Hey guys, in modern I love to play infect. But seeing it on the decline I thought about splashing Black to make it more consistent. I'm not a pro by any means and would you your thoughts and opinions on my build.
Reasons Behind Some of my Choices:
Fatal Push - Honestly the start of my wanting to splash black in here. Most of the time evasion is the name of the game in modern infect, but in my original build I ran a 1 of twisted image and a 1 of dismember just to deal with spellskite. But with the addition of black I combined them into a more reliable fatal push that can deal with any cmc 4 or lower threats. I also run an additional copy in the sideboard.
Thoughtseize - Second reason to add Black and if I was a good player probably should have been the first reason. The ability to not only see your opponent's hand, but also remove an answer they may have to you going all out for the win is immensely rewarding. Since the banning or probe finding ways to sneak a peek at my opponent's hand has been a problem. Like fatal push I run an additional copy in the sideboard.
Surgical Extraction - I only run this as a 1 of because if a threat already hit the grave, then the biggest damage has already been done. On the flip side I can also use it to exile fetchlands for another free look at my opponent's hand.
Flensermite - Now this one is just a personal card that I wanna try out. I don't like the cost required to cast kitchen finks in infect decks, so against burn the ability to still deal infect and gain life for just 2 sounded like a really good idea to me. After 1 pump I'm already gaining back the damage I would take from eidolon plus interest! Forcing them to waste a burn spell on it asap.
Ravenous Trap - Now this would mostly come in against dredge and reanimator. Not only is it a free graveyard hate, but push comes to shove I have the ability to hard cast it as well, but I pray that never comes.
