I cut Candle. —Feb. 22, 2018

Yup.

(Some more talk about it in the description.)

AlwaysSleepy Thanks for the detailed replies. I have played a lot of Zur; I agree that Time Spiral is terrible. I've been looking for appropriate replacements. I'm sorry to see you've just cut Mind's Desire, I was literally thinking of putting your build together just to play with it. Such a strong card.

Oh man, I didn't even mention how good Future Sight is with Doomsday and Necropotence, but, it's kind of weak on its own. It seems like kind of the opposite of the strategic spectrum of Mind's Desire, where you need a really specific set up to get mind's desire to work; but if it does it really just goes off. With future sight you can just play it out there and it's worth maybe +3 cards per turn, average; with the possibility of just ending the game if you get doomsday or top + helm of awakening.

Yeah, Future Sight definitely has its applications, just a bit slow when you want it to come down.

The Consult line is a brand new choice, and I'm seeing how it goes. Shaper and I decided to give it a spin in Zur, so we'll see what happens. I'm pretty hype that it'll be strong though. Plus, having a low curve overall makes things like Naus very very clean, and you often won't have fat cards in hand which are dead.

What is your stax game plan? Why not run power artifact in place of copy artifact?

Read the exclusions. Seems reasonable to leave out if your group plays no stax :)

I actually have lots of stax in my meta. The deck plays quite well into it, even without Power Artifact. I feel like Power Artifact is overall just not what I want.

My game plan is more or less Zur or tutor and cast Doomsday with some protection. Zur's great into stax since you can search out removal and Necropotence gives you a really good long game. Additionally, normal Doomsday cast is not bad since you can pile your answers or pick a pile which plays through stax since they don't have a ton of stack interaction. I haven't really needed anything beyond that. Also, Ad Nauseam + Angel's Grace is just a flat out good win-condition, and generally fights through almost anything.

I want to try out your deck because I just so happen to have most of the more expensive parts, with the exception of Timetwister. While I recognize Timetwister is probably too powerful to not include in the final version, is Candelabra of Tawnos VERY important? From some playtesting I do see it is a nice card to have, but do you thing swapping it would probably be fine even in a final version? And if so, what would you swap it for?

re: Candle

Nah it's not vital. I play this list in paper minus Twister and Candle. I'll be honest and say I do kinda miss Twister. I don't really notice not having Candle. I think it should be in the list without budget, but the return is low v.s. paper cost. It could be cut though, but it is quite good with Tide and I don't think I'm set to cut it completely yet.

I just run other good cards. Another counterspell or draw spell is totally fine.

I like this deck a lot. I have been goldfishing it constantly and I have only on a handful of occasions seen Demonic Consultation be good, while very often if it was a Mind's Desire it would be very good. Thoughts?

If you would prefer Mind's Desire in the list, by all means haha. You should play the cards you prefer. MD is a strong card, and I want people to think of my list as a sort of stencil that gives an idea of what the deck can look like. I just put all my thoughts and chicken-scratch here so you guys get it all lol.

Consult lines are really for the one-off quick wins. I have a fairly heavy draw-go control based meta atm, and it's difficult for me to resolve more than a spell per turn since I get stuffed down a lot. Consultation is a bit more relevant for me since it's low costed and easier to protect. It could be totally opposite for you. Granted I might stop tuning Zur to deal with this kind of meta and perhaps swap decks a bit since the MU is quite difficult and any tuning hasn't improved the win% much at all.

Anyways, I think MD is good. If you like it more, then I'm totally on board with you playing it instead.

What do you consider the flex spots in this deck? Sorry for so many questions, new to cedh and I really want this to b my competitive deck. Like it lots!

Here are the ones I think are flex:

  1. Demonic Consultation
  2. Stifle
  3. Copy Artifact
  4. Enlightened Tutor
  5. Pull from Eternity
  6. Sleight of Hand
  7. Dark Confidant

The rest are cards I probably don't see myself tampering with any time soon. I personally would not cut Dark Confidant unless maybe I'm always the slowest deck. That's very rare, so I don't see Bob ever being cut. I list him because if for some reason you really need another flex spot, you can look to trim Dark Confidant. However, I probably wouldn't advocate it. Pretend the list is 6 cards long lol.

I try to keep the list up to date in description, and I'll list flex spots there, too.

Hey AlwaysSleepy, have you ever thought of taking Angel's Grace out so that people stop recommending Phyrexian Unlife to you?

what's your thoughts on "day's undoing" as a budget Timetwister substitute?

Unfortunately pretty poor. It ending the turn is super rough. I'd just recommend playing something else.
