This is a Mayael the Anima commander deck. This one has been a long time coming, and I am personally a huge fan of Naya based mechanics and creatures. This is the culmination work between myself and my best friend. Credits, honors, and thanks to NoobNoob275.

In a deck where you're attempting to utilize Mayael, you have to go back to Shards of Alara. In particular, you have to examine the titular shard of Naya. A lot of these creatures in color have an ability that requires creatures with power 5 or greater, EXACTLY like our commander. Examples of this include:

My current iteration takes this concept and pushes it to an apex. I hand-picked each card for the roster and almost none of the current line-up fall beneath that standard. A few great to mention creatures include:

A good reason to stray from this (with creatures specifically) is when you find some real utility out of this ability. For instance, on the Shard of Naya a lot of creatures didn't meet the power requirement.. but did some other cool stuff, like:

Once we have a noteworthy amount of ramp, you need to go fetch one of three bodies:

Duke Ulder Ravengard

..so that we can cast things and give them Myriad. If you manage to get Utvara Hellkite to the field and have Dragon Tempest down, that's a wrap.

Xenagos, God of Revels

..because hitting your creatures on entry for buff and haste is very similar to what I described for the scenario above. In this case, It That Betrays might as well be one of the Eldrazi Titans. I've considered swapping this guy for Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, my favorite Titan, but in reality the sac nontoken effect is just gravy.

Ilharg, the Raze-Boar

..because dropping something for entry effect, and then back to hand at end of combat makes for some pretty good utility use. For instance, Titan of Industry, Terastodon, Dragonlord Atarka.

May 2022: we love dragons, always have, and now we celebrating Baldur's Gate with some big-ass dragons and what's essentially just "Boros-Mirror Xenagos" (Duke Ulder Ravengard), so be on the lookout for that myriad synergy! (Worldspine Wurm, Utvara Hellkite, etc.)

June 2022: I've decided to change some functionality of the deck, by including Oracle of Mul Daya instead of Exploration due to my own group's meta. There were other changes made at this point that I can't quite remember what went out. What went in though was Dragonborn Champion, and maybe Garruk's Uprising is what came out.

In preparation for Dominaria United, I'll be including some powerful new pieces. I'm excited to add them to the deck. Will detail as new cards become available.

Plenty of options in these colors, whether you need spot removal with destruction, or a boardwipe situation. Each color has its variance and most of the picking comes down to what you (the duelist) would personally be more likely to use.

Tutors are a great way to fetch a variety of things you could need in any game. I've detailed the Tutors that are viable. Not saying there aren't more, but I don't know about them..
