Introduction

This is my Brion Stoutarm EDH deck. When I saw the card, I loved it, and wanted to build around him. This is one of my early decks, and I've tried to upgrade it more here recently. It was initially built with more threaten effects, with the idea of stealing other players' creatures and flinging them with Brion. Some of those effects still remain, but it isn't the focus of the deck anymore.

What Brion Stoutarm really called to mind was the card Lifeline. I've had the card forever, and have always looked for ways to play it, and Brion offered a fun way to do it. Ideally, at some point I'll have Brion equipped with Thornbite Staff, sac as many fatties on the field as I can, and then barring anything goofy, Lifeline returns my fatties to play for another run the following turn. Its not built solely to that end, but it's a good time when it happens that way.

Fling Strategy

The goal of this deck is to get some big creatures onto the battlefield, either my own or someone else's, and fling damage around the table. Some especially fun cards to do this with are Hamletback Goliath, Evra, Halcyon Witness, and Serra Avatar. Phyrexian Processor is a fun option for pumping out fatties to fling around, and Court of Grace, Dragonmaster Outcast, and Skyline Despot can pump out tokens to fling and help the deck stay aggressive and retain the Monarch.

Being able to fling multiple times in a turn is very helpful. Thornbite Staff is the strongest card for this, and Magewright's Stone and Thousand-Year Elixir allow for some extra untapping of Brion. Illusionist's Bracers double up an activation of Brion.

Recursion Strategy

Lifeline is my favorite recursion theme in the deck. It does offer it's abilities to the entire table, but most of the time I'll be the one benefitting the most from it being around. Hofri Ghostforge is a nice piece, too, offering the ability to fling something twice. Feldon of the Third Path, Reya Dawnbringer, and Adarkar Valkyrie are helpful for this strategy, too.

Utility

I didn't want Brion to be the sole source of damage in the deck. Warmstorm Surge, Stalking Vengeance, and Court of Ire help speed up the clock.

Being able to cheat things into play is helpful, too. Sunbird's Invocation offers great value for casting something with a higher CMC, and Sneak Attack lends itself to the aggressiveness of the deck. Sneak something in for , attack with it, and sac the same creature for with Stoutarm. If Lifeline or Hofri Ghostforge are in play, then I'll get the creature back.

Conclusion

I like this build, because it lets me do two of my favorite things in Magic; sacrifice things and recur things. I use the threaten effects here mainly as creature removal, stealing problem creatures and sacrificing them for value. I also get to play some fun and unique cards from my Magic youth.

Any thoughts, suggestions, and upvotes are always appreciated! If you've got a Brion Stoutarm deck, feel free to post your list here, too! I'd love to see the different approaches and get new ideas.

Thanks for taking a look!

Updates Add

I got around to fixing this deck up just a little bit. Added some ramp, some things to try, and a little more card draw. Although there isn't as much draw as I'd like, I make up for it with some tutors. I find it to be much more consistent now, and it still has some room to improve.
