Budget "cEDH" izzet pirate theme deck.

This is a $100-ish budget try at a midrange cEHD deck. At least it is built with a competitive mindset combined with some flavor (mostly allowed by the budget restriction).

The idea is to use Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator to ramp with some low-cost utility pirates, while digging through the library with Curiosity-type effects. The end goal of the deck is to eventually win with either the "one-card" combo: Glint-Horn Buccaneer + Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator, or with Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal through Jeska, Thrice Reborn 's infinite -X activations.

A quick note on Jeska

So, I wanted to have a pirate themed (semi) competitive deck using Malcolm. My first idea for partners was either Breeches, Brazen Plunderer or Dargo, the Shipwrecker, but since I ended up adding the Scepter combo, I thought it would make more sense to have an outlet in the command zone. Additionally, since she is really your outlet once you have infinite mana, you can use Jeska in early game as a some sort of board wipe, allowing your pirates to go through and getting some treasures out of the deal.

Main combo lines

As told before, this deck relies on two main combos to win.

  • Glint-Horn Buccaneer + Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator: This is the easiest combo to assemble, since you just need to find the Buccaneer. Once both the Buccaneer and Malcolm are on field, make sure you have available and at least a card in hand. Go to combat, declare the Buccaneer as attacker, before blockers activate Buccaneer to deal 1 damage to each opponent. This will create you three treasures, so you can use two of them to activate again and repeat until you have killed all your opponents.

  • Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal: For this combo to work you will need first one of these two scenarios on board: 1) Enough mana rocks to produce at least OR 2) Lightning-Rig Crew + Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator. With the first scenario (easiest) just cast the scepter exiling Dramatic Reversal. Float mana from the rocks and use to activate the scepter, this will untap all your nonland permanents and you will be able to repeat this process generating infinite mana. With infinite mana, you can keep on casting Jeska, Thrice Reborn and activing her -X ability each time to deal damage to everyone's face. On second scenario just activate Lightning-Rig Crew to deal 1 damage to each opponent, creating three treasures, then use two treasures to activate the scepter to untap everything and repeat until everyone's dead.

Curiosity-type effects and the Niv combo.

Since we are working on a budget, we don't have access to expensive tutors. This means we'll be needing to draw cards consistently, in order to assemble one of the two main combos. With this in mind, the deck is built to use Curiosity-type effects, by dealing damage with evasive creatures (some of them pirates). This line allow us to easily include Niv-Mizzet, Parun as another combo with either Curiosity, Ophidian Eye or Tandem Lookout.
