Marchesa ETB and graveyard shenanigans. This is my oldest deck that I have and still use.

I really like Marchesa because she says, regardless of what everyone sat down with, you're going to be playing suicide black. Just by being brought to the table she creates a mini game of who can get off the throne, where everyone is now actively trying to lose life. As an immense fan of the archtype, this makes me incredibly happy.

Marchesa can be built to be incredibly mean (Poison comes to mind), but this is probably my most fair deck. The main win cons are combat damage, stealing someone else's win cons, or flickering Gray Merchant of Asphodel in and out of the bin (usually it's combat damage). Because of how easy it is to manipulate +1 / +1 counters, your life total, and how much control the Grixis colors offer, Marchesa can be one of the most resilient decks out there. Once Marchesa gets a counter on her it's gonna be difficult to keep her down without instant speed graveyard hate.

The card choices are all individually strong while being SUPER synergistic and snowbally. I strove to get as much synergy out of the deck while actively trying to avoid combos. With this lack of combos in mind, tutoring becomes much more difficult and dependent on the situation. Cards like Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor are more fair when you're not simply getting the one missing combo piece to win on the spot.

That being said, my attacks are very telegraphed. Everyone can pretty easily and accurately guess where I'll be attacking. As long as they aren't the one with the highest life total, they can ignore me for the most part. This is of course for those who know the deck and have played against it before. Additionally, even without any other player interaction I can sometimes end up killing myself just based on how much life I end up losing. But it's a blast to play and I really enjoy the constant assessment of slamming down threats vs how much more life can I lose and not just straight kill myself. It's sometimes a VERY fine line, and walking it is always fun.

Damn. Ran into another infinite combo while playing the other day. This one involves Phyrexian Reclamation + Dockside Extortionist + Gray Merchant of Asphodel + a sac outlet. In order to pull this off your opponents need at least 9 artifacts / enchantments and you need at least 2 devotion to black other than Gary. This will net you nothing besides whatever your sac outlet is. Anything more equates to infinite mana or life drain. I'm planning on keeping this in because it's a 4 card combo (and thus not simple to assemble), and because of just how much into late game you need to be in order to actually pull it off.
