Of Magic the Gathering's tribes, the Rogues are my favorite occupational tribe besides the shamans. I love how fast they are, especially how their ability to bypass blockers allows you to reap extra value. In deciding what my next commander deck to assemble IRL should be, I've made a series of builds focusing on underused or underrated tribes. I made a Rakdos Vampire Knight Tribal deck led by Olivia, Mobilized for War and Haakon, Stromgald Scourge (When You Rise Again, Rise a Vampire Knight) and a Jund Shaman deck led by Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper (The Shamans of Jund).

This deck, a Rogue tribal build, will focus on creatures that are either very difficult to block or impossible to block and gaining extra value when they deal combat damage to a player. What's great is that, like my Jund Shaman deck, this Dimir Rogue deck doesn't need to have its commander on the field in order to win. The ability of Sygg, River Cutthroat, however, does give me tremendous card advantage while the deck is performing its basic functions. I was inspired to build this by the deck I currently play competitively in the Pauper format, a Suicide Vampire Rogues build. This particular deck won't be pure, unadulterated aggro, though. I intend to play this deck a little more politically, using my unblockable weenies to backstab the player deemed the biggest threat at the table while erecting a pillow fort to discourage retaliation.

If I want Sygg to be an integral part of the deck and make the most use of card advantage, I need to make sure my opponents lose at least 3 life per turn. That INCLUDES their turns. On mine, I'll do it with unblockable Rogues. On theirs, I need to get more creative. Sygg's ability will not trigger multiple times per turn, so if I get too aggressive, I won't get the maximum amount of card advantage.

The first component of the deck contains the unblockable Rogue creatures. Swinging with two or three of these on my turn ensures that Sygg will trigger. If I wasn't going all-in on Rogue Tribal, Ninjutsu creatures would be fantastic here, too.

The next component of the deck contains Rogues and other permanents that enhance my other creatures, like giving them added effects when they deal combat damage to a player or granting them entirely new abilities. This component also includes the tribal synergy staples. Quietus Spike is the most brutal of these, able to slash an opponent's life by up to 20. Cards like Coastal Piracy, Bident of Thassa, and Larceny are designed to ensure I acquire and maintain card advantage.

The final component of the deck includes cards that synergize with Sygg's ability directly. These are spells that cause an opponent to lose at least 3 life, grant me infinite hand size, etc.
