Primary Commander: Momir Vig, Simic Visionary

Alternate Commander(s): Inga and Esika

Major Theme(s): Clones/copies

Subtheme(s): Mana dorks

Primary Win Condition: Make four copies of Biovisionary

Backup Win Condition: Use Mirror of Fate to remove your library and win with Laboratory Maniac; Outvalue opponents by making numerous copies of the board's biggest threats

Infinite Combos: None

Non-land Tutors: 4

  1. Momir Vig, Simic Visionary = any creature
  2. Drift of Phantasms = any 3-mana spell
  3. Solve the Equation = any instant or sorcery
  4. Fabricate = any artifact

The goal is to use your commander, Momir Vig, Simic Visionary, to tutor for Biovisionary and then make four copies of Biovisionary to win the game. The deck has multiple cloning cards, but my first choice is normally Augmenter Pugilist  (you'll use the backside of the card, Echoing Equation  ) as it's a creature you can search for with Momir Vig and, as long as you have enough creatures on the battlefield, it will create the required four copies in one shot. Myojin of Cryptic Dreams can also do it but costs three extra mana. You can also make 3+ copies of Biovisionary with noncreature spells like Infinite Reflection or Sakashima's Will, although they can't be tutored for directly with your commander. The remaining cloning creatures can only make one copy of Biovisionary at a time, but you also have the option to clone opposing threats - and then make multiple copies of those creatures with your numerous other cloning effects!

Momir Vig can also find cards such as Archetype of Endurance, Mystic Snake, and Frilled Mystic to protect your combo. That said, my first choice with Momir Vig is normally to grab cards such as Gyre Engineer, Weaver of Currents, and Maraleaf Pixie to build up my mana production, thus allowing me to play out Biovisionary and make the requisite copies all in one turn. One of the best ways to do this is to tutor for Inga and Esika, which turns all of your creatures into mana dorks. The restriction of not using that mana for noncreature spells is a small one in this deck since it has 50+ creatures.

If Biovisionary ends up getting killed, you can find Body Double to make a copy from the graveyard and still pull it off. If the Biovisionary strategy still doesn't work out for any reason, the deck includes another win condition using Laboratory Maniac and Mirror of Fate. When you sac Mirror of Fate, choose zero cards to remove your entire library. As long as Laboratory Maniac is on the battlefield you win the next time you draw a card, which you can do the same turn through card draw options like Beast Whisperer, Tatyova, Benthic Druid, Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy, or the cycling lands Lonely Sandbar and Tranquil Thicket.

Drift of Phantasms is a key card in the deck as, once you draw it with your commander, you can use its transmute ability to find any missing combo piece including Biovisionary, Laboratory Maniac, Augmenter Pugilist, Solve the Equation (to find a cloning instant or sorcery), and Fabricate (to find Mirror of Fate).

If your playgroup doesn't like seeing a tutor in the command zone, or if you want greater variety or a new challenge, you could also play Inga and Esika as an alternate commander. If you go this route, your main win condition is likely playing the clone effects for value. In addition to copying opposing creatures, you can copy some of your own threats like Titan of Industry, which has a big body and a powerful enters-the-battlefield (ETB) effect. Other strong ETBs you may want to copy include Tishana, Voice of Thunder, Acidic Slime, and Bane of Progress.

Momir Vig, Simic Visionary
A leader bold and extroardinary
Seeks to create the perfect monstrosity
Through cloning and polymorphous atrocity

From the depths of the Flooded Grove
To the heights of Titan of Industry's trove
Arixmethes slumbers beneath the waves
While Body Double disturbs the graves

No challenge is too great for Progenitor Mimic
Kira, Great Glass-Spinner or Vedalken Heretic
With Saryth, the Viper's Fang by his side
Momir's opponents will soon run and hide

But still beware the Mirror of Fate
As the Laboratory Maniac lies in wait
For Momir's genius should not be trifled with
And his enemies will soon dissolve into myth

I am a casual, budget player and my goal is to always keep my commander decks within $100 or close to it. Any suggestions to improve the deck while still keeping it within budget are appreciated!
