The Commanders

Technically the commander of this deck is Edgar Markov . However, sometimes this deck is played with Olivia Voldaren + Sorin, Lord of Innistrad following our house rules adaptation of EDH.

Edgar was a card that had been sitting in our old LGS on the bottom shelf of a case for over a year and when I bought him, there was a layer of dust on the (double sleeved) card. At the time, I was unaware of sites like EDHREC, and I was especially unaware that he was such a good commander. He was even priced a little lower, $8-10 when we was going for $12, and genuinely thought that this was just not a very good or popular card or something; I got him because I like Mardu and Vampires.

Even when this deck was substantially weaker (and it's still somewhat casual I think?) it would absolutely stomp even the best of my boyfriend's EDH decks to the point where there was no challenge and made for some pretty boring games or non-games entirely. I love this commander, but definitely not in two-player. With the pandemic, a move, lack of a playgroup, and so on, I've instead been using Olivia Voldaren even though the colour identities are off with the lack of white present in hers. Originally our house rules for Vizier were that any colours were fine in the deck so long as they were present somewhere in the commander and vizier. That changed over time as our card collection got larger and better, but yea, the pairing of Olivia with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is a bit of a relic of our original house rules.

Lands

Unholy Citadel - gives all black Legends "bands with other" Legends. This one a favourite here, though this deck could stand to have more legendary creatures for it to be more effective. I'm sure there will be plenty later this year when Innistrad comes out. Anyway that series of lands is super fun, I'm dying to see them reprinted so I could put them in more decks. They are not reserved list, but only ever had that one printing (plus Italian Legends) so they are a bit expensive now.
