Does Anyone Have a Toothache?

Commander / EDH Counters GU (Simic)

King_Kaliban

Maybeboard

Pir and his faithful Stand Toothy are here to draw cards, get huge and kick ass.

The dependent draw category relies on the boardstate of myself or the rest of the table. This makes it the category with the most possibility and the most opportunity for failure.

Size Matters are cards that massively increase my boardstate, hand size, Commander, or reset my library.

Independent Draw are cards that rely on nothing but mana to refill my hand and put counters on Toothy. This Category is the smallest but very important. They should be held for when Toothy hits the table.

The Maybe Board is what is going to be put into the deck piece by piece.

.....12/17/19 The deck is basically done and there should not be any large revisions from this date forward. I played a three hour game tonight with puzzlebox and no commander out for half of it. This highlighted a few of the decks weaknesses that I would like to shore up. I need a way to connect with Toothy when there is a full board, I need alternative ways to win when my commanders are not on the board, and I need ways to interact with my graveyard in order to reset labman/labjace for my main wincon.

Tranquil Thicket -----> Rogue's Passage I don't need a tapped land that cycles

Jace, the Living Guildpact -----> Time Reversal Planeswalker downside it too great, I need a way to reset my graveyard.

Mu Yanling, Sky Dancer -----> Game Plan Good luck getting her Ult, this allows me to reset my graveyard and get a large draw as well

Kiora, the Crashing Wave -----> Jace's Archivist Archivist is a great repeatable wheel and cheap to boot.

Flux Channeler -----> Whispersilk Cloak less planeswalkers means less of a need for proliferate, whispersilk adds evasion to my commander which he needs.

Venser's Journal -----> Thought Sponge 5cmc artifact that never sticks for an effect that simulates what Toothy is doing. This synergizes very well with the Wheels that I have in the deck.

.....12/18/19 Modifications pt. 2 Toothy getting removed stalls out my gameplan so i've decided to include a few more counters matter creatures. This will give me a greater opportunity to impact the board when I cannot play my commanders

Search for Azcanta   -----> Managorger Hydra Search consistently underperforms. It can act as ramp or a filter late game but by then I don't need either. Managorger can impact the board much earlier, and is synergistic.

Coiling Oracle -----> Vinelasher Kudzu Another filter card. It doesn't draw me anything though so I am removing it for Vinelasher, which synergizes extremely well with the rest of the deck.

Merfolk Skydiver -----> Hooded Hydra Another underperformer. Its replacement offers a little destruction protection as well.

.....12/27/19

Plaxcaster Frogling -----> Laboratory Maniac Plaxcaster doesn't get drawn often and when he does I normally prioritize something else. Labman is a win condition of the deck and I needed it.

.....01/11/20 Refining

Thought Sponge -----> Preordain At 4 CMC I should be casting Toothy, not waiting for someone else to draw a ton of cards, Preordain offers cantrip draw and filtering.

Vorel of the Hull Clade -----> Worldly Tutor Vorel is great but he takes a turn to use and then another 2 mana at that, I very rarely get to activate him. Worldly Tutor allows for me to grab LabMan.

Game Plan -----> Mystical Tutor 6 CMC for a symmetrical draw effect, or a Tutor that allows me to grab some card draw or removal..........

.....01/17/2020 Combo Pieces

Garruk, Primal Hunter -----> Deadeye Navigator The effect stays the same but Deadeye is repeatable and can target more than one item. I can switch this effect between drawing my deck and infinite mana as I see fit.

Time Reversal -----> Peregrine Drake The inclusion of tutors has made reshuffling my graveyard into my deck less important, A wheel is always risky too. If a player draws into an answer to my boardstate because of me then that is a bad time. Peregrine Drake can combo with Deadeye Navigator which in turn gives Worldly Tutor more targets.
