This is a RW Artifact-based aggro deck.
Mana Base:
Being an aggressive deck, the lands have to be able to come into play untapped at will, which is my reason for running
Battlefield Forge
rather than Clifftop Retreat. Sacred Foundry is obviously a great land for the deck. Darksteel Citadel is a solid land because it helps activate metalcraft. Blinkmoth Nexus adds another land that can turn on metalcraft, and it is very useful as a flying threat. I don't run many lands in this deck because I consider Mox Opal to be a land. The mana base is one of the hardest parts in this deck because it is very important to have metalcraft, but it is also important to have enough colored mana. Mox Opal is very helpful to fulfill both of these goals.
Creatures:
Vault Skirge
is a very solid one-drop, being a flyer and gaining me life, which, because of the potentially painful nature of my mana-base, is very helpful. He gets incredibly powerful with equipments. Turn one
Vault Skirge
followed by turn two
Bonesplitter
and equipping it can be a very good way to begin a game.
Glint Hawk
is another aggressively costed flyer. It works exceptionally well with Mox Opal, and it is fine as well to return Welding Jar to my hand when I cast it. It definitely gets worse when I have to bounce an artifact that costs mana, but usually that isn't a problem.
Kor Skyfisher functions as another
Glint Hawk
. It costs more, but the extra point of toughness can be relevant, and bouncing any permanent can also make it easier to cast at times.
Signal Pest
is yet another tough to block, cheap threat. It carries equipment well, it adds to metalcraft, and with 2 or 3 other creatures, it adds a lot of damage itself. It works very well with Blinkmoth Nexus as well.
Etched Champion
is the most mana expensive card in the deck (along with
Prophetic Flamespeaker
), which is why I only run a couple of them. However, they can take over games. Usually they are unblockable and unkillable. Giving a Cranial Plating to one of these guys is very satisfying.
Prophetic Flamespeaker
is the draw engine of the deck. He is an insane threat. With
Signal Pest
and equipments, he can win a game with a single attack, but even if he only has three or so power, he still draws me cards when he deals damage to the opponent. Since most of my cards are one mana, this can add up to some serious card advantage.
Removal:
Galvanic Blast is the best removal spell in the deck. Almost always it is just better than lightning bolt, and drawing multiple copies of it can make finishing an opponent off a simple task.
Lightning Bolt is obviously just an all around amazing removal spell.
Dispatch is almost strictly better than Path to Exile in my deck. With metalcraft being very consistent in this deck, Dispatch is insane removal for creatures that Galvanic Blast can't get, like Tarmogoyf.
Equipments:
Bonesplitter
is a very aggressive equipment. The potential for playing a one-drop and following it up with an equipped
Bonesplitter
is why I run three of it rather than two.
Cranial Plating is obviously just insane. I don't need to explain it.
