Kogla, the Titan Ape + Skyshroud Poacher —May 28, 2020

New updates!

IN:

OUT:

Kogla is a beast. It is a destruction machine on steroids, a mixture of Somberwald Stag + Reclamation Sage + protection. Auto include and, of course, that means that we have to say goodbye to the far less efficient Stag.

Now, Poacher is another matter. I wanted to include it for some time, giving the fact that toolbox tutors are always strong. I am not quite sure of removing Serpopard, though. Furthermore, I will be trying to increase the critical mass of elves to maximize this enginge. It will be very likely that I am going to put Gaea's Herald in the 99. What to take out will be the real painful decision here....

We'll see! That's all for now, long live Krosa!

Love your deck and insight in this commander. Right now I've been bouncing back and forth between Nissa, Worldwaker and Garruk Wildspeaker in my 99 just because I like PWs and untapping forests is pretty strong when they're able to stick. But I have Greenwarden out of the deck right now to fit it which seems wrong. Greenwarden is a value champ. What would you suggest cutting to fit one of those PWs?

DecadeFire I am glad that you like my deck :) between Nissa and Garruk, the latter is far more strong IMO, given the fact that you could generate a lot of mana with Gaea's Cradle. If I had to make room for it in the list, I would probably cut some other non creature card that is not a tutor. The Great Henge would by my most likely choice, I believe.

Any thoughts on finding a slot for Vivien, Monsters' Advocate? Her static ability of playing creatures off the top of your library seems crazy strong with all the topdeck manipulation this deck utilizes (Sensei's Divining Top, Sylvan Library, Mirri's Guile). Plus, her minus ability is a straight tutor-from-library-onto-the-battlefield effect. I can only imagine casting Craterhoof Behemoth, only to grab Avenger of Zendikar and slam it onto the battlefield before the team pump trigger resolves.

Austin_Smith_of_Cards the issue with non-creature, non-land cards is always the same:

  • Are they worth it, since you cannot tutor them?

  • Which is the card you are going to swap them for?

From the look of it, I see a 5 drop which has to stay alive a whole EDH turn before starting paying itself over more turns. It is far better to simply draw more cards using all the draw engine we already have. The minus ability is fine, I admit, but still you are looking at a 5 mana sorcery. Therefore, I will not include it in my 99s.

On the other hand, though, I am currently testing Kogla, the Titan Ape and Oakhame Adversary. I'll update you soon enough on those :)

I've been wanting to try Kogla. It seems good w/ Eternal Witness.

DecadeFire you mean with kamahl ;) Yeah Kogla will be my next update. It is a better Somberwald Stag, so I will swap the two. Little sad of reducing the number of 5-drops but it is an obvious choice. It fights and lets us protect kamahl and recur Eternal Witness. Auto include.

Good job on reading my mind :)
