Sideboard

A Mardu Humans brew built around Hero of Precinct One.

Overview

The deck is a go-wide aggro build. With a perfect draw it can win by turn 4, but Hero allows us to stay relevant in longer games. In order to get the maximum value, the vast majority of our spells are multicolored, and to maximize speed, most of our lands reliably enter untapped - we run every shockland in our colors, a few castles (of which Embereth is the most relevant), some basics, and one Fabled Passage.

The Main Deck

One-drops:

  • Fervent Champion: You all know this one. Cheap aggressive red human. We do have another knight in the deck, so his other ability can be relevant even if we don't draw multiples.
  • Whisper Squad: A mana sink that enables our go-wide plan.

Two-drops:

  • Hero of Precinct One: The reason I built the deck. Makes tokens with nearly every spell we cast.
  • Stormfist Crusader: Extra cards and extra damage stapled to an evasive creature. Also the other knight in the deck.
  • General's Enforcer: General's Enforcer really shines in this deck - ALL of our three- and four-drops are legendary. In addition to protecting our more expensive creatures, he also provides some incidental graveyard hate.
  • Dire Tactics: Efficient multicolored creature removal. It will never actually cost us life unless things have already gone horribly wrong.

Three- and Four-drops:

  • General Kudro of Drannith: A lord who comes with built-in graveyard hate (extremely relevant given that Uro is omnipresent). He doubles the power of our tokens, puts our X/2s out of range of Cry of the Carnarium, and gives us a bit more removal in a pinch.
  • Judith, the Scourge Diva: Discount Kudro - having both on the field is fantastic, though.
  • Tajic, Legion's Edge: A hasty threat that makes our small creatures bigger. Tajic also turns off damage-based removal against the rest of our board, and is especially effective when paired with General's Enforcer.
  • Teysa Karlov: Teysa gives our tokens vigilance and lifelink, which is fantastic for winning races. She also lets us double up on Bastion of Remembrance triggers when we side it in.

Matchups (Under Construction)

I'm currently in high platinum on Arena despite not touching Standard at all until the companion rules change. The deck seems to struggle against Witch's Oven decks, but so far I've gone roughly even or better against everything else. I might put some real statistics together after reaching Mythic.
