Maybeboard

Enchantment (1)

This deck works surprisingly well.

The schtick here is that white has a ton of decent reanimation effects, but because black has better ones, reanimator decks generally include black.

My original idea was to try mono-white, as using your graveyard would be a form of card advantage. But, of course, white cannot even manage that on its own: It doesn't have the self-mill you need make it work. But green does!

Green's self-mill cards are well-known, but it is also worth highlighting that I included a few really good spellshapers for discard outlets. You want to put big creatures in your graveyard anyway, so why not get some value for doing so?

Green and white both have a bunch of big, dumb creatures with good effects, too. A few of these are controlling effects that help preserve your board state, like Archon of Valor's Reach and Angelic Arbiter.

They also both have some good, big, hasty creatures, like Akroma, Angel of Wrath and Gaea's Revenge, both of which are also difficult for your opponents to target.

Asmira, Holy Avenger is on the reserve list, but it is only like $1, probably because people look at it and think, "When am I going to play an aristocrats strategy in just green and white?" This deck has plenty of ways to bring creatures back, though, and a few ways to destroy your own creatures. Notice, too, that the way her text is worded, she just needs to be on the battlefield at the end of turn to get the benefit. So playing her after attacking with Novablast Wurm will still get you a bunch of counters for her. If she ends up being hard to find or spiking in price for no reason, Sigarda, Heron's Grace would be a good alternative commander.

One last card worth highlighting is Hunting Grounds. I'm not sure how I hadn't heard of this card before now, but perhaps it only sees play in Abzan decks due to its use of the threshold mechanic. It is perfect for this deck, however. It has a ton of ways to get seven or more cards into your graveyard and a ton of big creatures to cheat into play. I could easily see getting this down on turn 4 and then having board full of giant threats if it isn't removed by your next turn. Looks fun to try, at least. Update: It turns out other people caught on and the card is no longer budget, so I've replaced it with The Binding of the Titans for more self-mill, graveyard hate, and recursion.

If you like reanimator decks and are looking for something different that will surprise your friends, this might be the deck for you.
