Maybeboard


This is definitely my favorite modern deck. Not just because it's good, but because I really like spooky stuff. But instead of just telling you about cool ghost stuff, let me explain why these cards are so good.

Mausoleum Wanderer: This guy is one of the most threatening cards in the deck early game. At first, he just seems like a judge's familiar. But then he gets stronger through cards like drogskol captain and supreme phantom. Not to mention you can bring in other spirits to boost his power through aether vial or flash to make the amount of mana they have to pay even higher for the turn. This guy just sits on the field waiting to kill a key combo card unless they pay a slowly increasing amount of mana.

Rattlechains: one time hexproof is good enough, but then he gives all your creatures flash? Holy cow! Rattlechains makes almost all of your deck operate at instant speed.

Spellqueller: a counterspell that you can attack your opponent with. I like it. A lot of people may shy away from the potential free cast if he dies, and I can understand that. But keep in mind the amount of control this deck has. Countering, hexproof, etc.

Skyclave Apparition: did something get through your countering? Exile it. Extra fun if you manage to bring this guy in through flash or aether vial. Use your countering to keep your opponent from getting that token.

Selfless Spirit: hexproof and countering don't stop everything. Use this guy to stop a board wipe or just be obnoxious in combat.

Aether Vial: another card that lets you use almost your entire deck at instant speed. Use it to bring in free creatures on your opponents turn.

Cavern of Souls: I've looked at a lot of competitive deck lists for spirits and I'll never understand why nobody else runs four copies of this. I mean, it makes everything but aether vial uncounterable. Why not run as many as possible to get the most use of it?

Those are the most important cards in the deck that I thought needed explaining. Really excited to see if anything fun comes out for spirits later this year when two new innistrad sets come out!
