“To death all must go, and so in death lies ultimate power.”

Omae wa mo shindeiru (You Are Already Dead)

NANI!?! Win faster than any opponents can respond with this unique combo. Once it's in play, they're already dead.

Relies on a specific Necrotic Ooze combo, and uses only mana abilities to win the game. As mana abilities cannot be responded to, you can kill the table without having to let anything resolve. You can even activate the combo in the process of casting another spell or in response to a split-second spell (like Angel's Grace).

The Combo

Necrotic Ooze + Pili-Pala + Selvala, Explorer Returned + Skirge Familiar: Have one mana available, and ensure Necrotic Ooze is in play (and isn't summoning sick) and everything else is in the graveyard. Then activate the Selvala, Explorer Returned mana ability. Everyone will draw a card, and you may net some mana or not (it's not necessary to the loop). Then discard the card you drew with the Skirge Familiar mana ability. You can then untap with the Pili-Pala mana ability. You're now back in the original state, with one mana floating, having activated only mana abiliites, but everyone's drawn a card. So how do you win?

You win by ensuring your library is never empty. This is done by also including a single copy of Blightsteel Colossus *list* somewhere in your deck. When you activate the Skirge Familiar mana ability to discard it, because the shuffle effect is a replacement effect, it happens instantaneously, and thus you still don't pass priority. As such, Blightsteel Colossus *list* always ensures you have cards to draw.

You win as soon as state based actions are checked, and the game sees that all your opponents have tried to draw a card from their (now very empty) libraries.

Hermit Druid and Buried Alive are great for getting all the combo pieces into your graveyard for Necrotic Ooze. And Dread Return is useful if you flip your library with Hermit Druid, as it can bring back Necrotic Ooze straight from the graveyard if you have 3 creatures in play. Also note, Necrotic Ooze will need to not be summoning sick to be able to win, so you will either need to give it haste from your graveyard (with Blighted Bat's haste ability), give it haste with equipment (with Lightning Greaves), flash it in EOT (with Emergence Zone), or cast Teferi's Protection so no one can interact with it until you have priority again next turn. Note that your graveyard is still vulnerable to some exile effects whenever you pass priority, even with Teferi's Protection active. Also note that if you can already win, if an opponent uses a spell or ability that can put a creature directly into play from a hidden zone (e.g. not by casting it), you should combo off first as a response, as it could be something like Linvala, Keeper of Silence, which would prevent you from comboing off after it resolves.

If you do need to pass before you can tap Necrotic Ooze, be aware of abilities from:

Note: MTGO has some bugs with the Pili-Pala & Selvala, Explorer Returned mana abilities, in that you can't activate them at any time you should be able to activate mana abilities (like when you put a spell on the stack and are asked to pay mana to finalize casting it). They still work correctly for the combo, you just can't always activate them like you should be able to. Additionally, this combo is super clunky to pull off without shortcutting, since you need to untap and tap like 90 times each.

Protean Hulk Combo

We can tutor out the 9 cards we need to execute the Necrotic Ooze combo if we can get a Protean Hulk death trigger to resolve. Note that later in the game this may be difficult to pull off, as pieces may not be in the library still to be tutored out.

Prerequisites:

Details:

  1. Protean Hulk dies, gets Karmic Guide + Viscera Seer
  2. Karmic Guide reanimates Protean Hulk
  3. Viscera Seer sacrifices Protean Hulk
  4. Protean Hulk gets Mikaeus, the Unhallowed
  5. Viscera Seer sacrifices Karmic Guide (which now has Undying)
  6. Karmic Guide un-dies and reanimates Protean Hulk
  7. Viscera Seer sacrifices Protean Hulk
  8. Protean Hulk gets Skirge Familiar (+ optional Sylvan Safekeeper)
  9. Protean Hulk un-dies and returns
  10. Viscera Seer sacrifices Protean Hulk
  11. Protean Hulk gets Phyrexian Delver (+ optional Llanowar Mentor, in case you need to discard Skirge Familiar)
  12. Phyrexian Delver reanimates Protean Hulk and you lose 7 life
  13. Viscera Seer sacrifices Protean Hulk
  14. Protean Hulk gets Selvala, Explorer Returned + Blighted Bat
  15. Protean Hulk undies and returns
  16. Viscera Seer sacrifices Protean Hulk
  17. Protean Hulk gets Necrotic Ooze and Pili-Pala

From here, you sacrifice Blighted Bat and pay to give Necrotic Ooze haste with its ability, then sacrifice (or discard) Selvala, Explorer Returned, Pili-Pala, and Skirge Familiar to set up the kill state (make sure to hold priority if you have to sacrifice). Necrotic Ooze now has all the required abilities and has haste - see above for the combo.
