Weight of Spires

Instant

Weight of Spires deals damage to target creature equal to the number of nonbasic lands that creature's controller controls.

Hoard Robber: kinda dislike black getting this straightforward ramp, should have been red instead

Leather Armor: neat, tho the drawback is going to be kinda swingy

Neverwinter Dryad: compare Diligent Farmhand . It's kinda funny that the card with less green mana symbols is more suited for mono-green decks

Dragon's Fire: Much more OK with this than Charge of the Forever-Beast , tho I'm not sure if I want to cut the repeatable Spit Flame or the cheaper & scaling Weight of Spires for it in my Lathliss deck

Temple of the Dragon Queen: Seems mostly good in two-color dragon tribal decks? it reminds me of Prismatic Vista more than anything.

Loyal Warhound: Obvious comparison to Knight of the White Orchid (which, should be noted, puts its land into play untapped which is quite impressive). Blinking this before you play your actual land drop for the turn isn't a bad proposition.

Asmodeus: Ooof, this guy doesn't play around. for seven cards (plus the ones you'd just draw normally...), at will, seem pretty good; more mana-efficient than Vilis, Broker of Blood in terms of pure advantage, tho I think I'd still prefer him most of the time

I enjoy playing competitive EDH and one of the recently spoiled Strixhaven cards I already know is going to shake-up my meta and make things difficult for me. Namely Witherbloom Apprentice is the card I'm dreading as it can close out a game if it's controller casts Chain of Smog as it can be copied infinitely if the controller always targets themself with it. It's very likely every BGx deck in my play group is going to run this combo given how easy it is to setup and when you pair the possibility of closing out the game on turn two through Dark Ritual or Sol Ring into a mana rock, it becomes a lethal threat I can't ignore when making deck building decisions. As such, I feel I need to add another one mana creature removal spell in my deck, but I'm stumped over which spell I should include not just to address this potential combo but also have the most practical use outside of it as well.

My current list of removal spells are: Path to Exile , Swords to Plowshares , Sinister Concoction , Dismember , Lightning Axe , Molten Vortex , Red Elemental Blast , Pyroblast and Terminate (I enjoy playing more reactively than proactively.)

The removal spells I'm considering are: Dark Betrayal , Fatal Push , Human Frailty , Lightning Bolt , Magma Spray , Weight of Spires and Seal of Fire . (The last one I'm considering for its use around counterspells by casting it early.)

Notable exclusions are: Deadly Rollick , Defile , Dispatch , Force of Despair , Galvanic Blast , Murderous Cut , Mutual Destruction , Necrotic Wound , Pyrokinesis , Reckless Rage , Skred and Tragic Slip as I feel I don't have the means to meet these card restrictions consistent enough to be useful in my deck, especially in the early game. I'm also not considering two mana removal spells like Go for the Throat because I feel at this point cost effectiveness matters more than removal range.

Of course the best removal spell is going to depend heavily on the meta, but I'm generally trying to figure out which of the spells I'm considering is the best in a competitive environment in general. I'm looking for feedback and second opinions on whether you think any of the spells shines well above the rest through your own play experiences. I appreciate any insight I can get, thanks.

People keep posting that you should run Lightning Bolt in your deck. As far as cheap removal goes there are plenty removal spells I’d rather run before I pick up Lightning Bolt. My picks include Dismember, Lightning Axe, Sinister Concoction, Weight of Spires, Go for the Throat, Terminate, Molten Vortex, and Heartless Act

For some reason it is missing the last 37 items. My input CSV has 1299 unique cards, and the upload has only 1262. The missing items are the last 37. The input list is sorted alphabetically on name. The first missing item is Weight of Spires and the last missing item is Zur's Weirding. The last item that made it in was Wear Away.

Lash Out is probably my favourite budget burn spell for lists like this, but I've found Flame Jab/Geistflame/Burning Vengeance to be a fun package for ultra-budget burn making use of the discards and filtering lands. I'm a fan of Electrickery/Inflame, Earthquake, Firespout, Slagstorm, Street Spasm, Pyroclasm, Kindle the Carnage, Volcanic Fallout, Martyr of Ashes for crowd control. Fiery Gambit, Incendiary CommandThe big thing with budget lists is always sideboard- Aura Barbs, Boil, Empty the Warrens, Ingot Chewer, Molten Rain, Rending Volley, Roast, Shattering Spree, Weight of Spires, Sudden Shock, Smash to Smithereens Tormod's Crypt, Dragon's Claw, Bottle Gnomes and Shattering Blow can all find their place. Burst Lightning is a cheap shock upgrade and Furnace Scamp can be more efficient than a bolt if you are removing blockers. Unstable Footing/Wild Slash is pretty useful for that final push.

My personal favorite interaction is Hornet Nest + Indestructibility then using cards like Weight of Spires and it's ilk to pump out Flying Deathtouch tokens. It's pretty out there in terms of token combos (interactions) you could use but I love it because no one sees it coming

tchau204 thanks for the suggestions, despite I really love Think Twice, I didn't think of putting it in the deck. You reminded me that the card existed. I will replace the Careful Consideration by Think Twice. As for Weight of Spires, at the beginning, I was playing it once in the maindeck and two Dismember in the sidedeck. I found it so good that I replace the Dismember by the Weight of Spires. This card is doing what I want from her : destroy medium-big creatures that slip through my couterspells and my Lightning Bolt. Every single deck in modern is playing so much nonbasic lands that it is rarely a dead card. An other card that is underrated is Vapor Snag. The card is really great. I have played UR delver, and a four-of wasn't too much, but in this temur delver, I am more interested in destroying my opponent's creatures than bouncing them. So, I think that only one Vapor Snag is enough, maybe I could raise the number to two.

Weight of Spires is interesting. Instead of Careful Consideration, I think that Think Twice or Epiphany at the Drownyard might be better. Since you are playing very reactive after you deploy your threats, I don't think you'll ever want to cast Careful Consideration at sorcery speed. In this case, the latter two are better.
