Vine Dryad

Creature — Dryad

Flash

Forestwalk

You may remove a green card in your hand from the game rather than pay Vine Dryad's mana cost.

Durkle on Manaless Dredge

Hi. I've played Manaless Dredge on and off for 6 years or so. Just a couple things I want to throw out there based on my experience.

The most important thing: I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend trying the heavier green splash build. I.e, the build that plays Once Upon a Time, Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis, and Vine Dryad. UOaT makes finding a Phantasmagorian on turn 1 WAY more likely. Instead of 8 hits at it, you get 13. Hogaak comes up a lot more often than you'd think, and he seriously boosts the deck's power in fair matchups. He's super easy to cast over and over, and decks that only have interaction via Force of Will simply cannot keep him off the board. They basically need to hit it with Swords to Plowshares or else you have an extremely recursive 8/8 trampler. Vine Dryad looks weird I know, but it's another green card and it blocks Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer at instant speed and kills it, which is VERY important in this meta. Most people haven't heard of the card, so it makes for a lovely little surprise. And, as somebody mentioned above, the green cards are EXTREMELY important to then pitch to Force of Vigor post-board.

Beyond that, just 2 more things I want to say.

1, it's a misconception that you never mulligan. Sometimes, you're forced to. If a hand simply isn't workable, don't keep it. It's better to have a good hand that can't get going until turn 2 or even 3 than a bad hand that might not get going at all.

2, I don't believe you need to be playing Flayer, Giant, AND Zealot. I'd pick just one of em and play that one. There's arguments for all 3, and personally I'd advocate for Flayer, but you really can't go wrong with any of em. Playing more than 1 is simply overkill imo, as you're basically only casting one after you've returned a Balustrade Spy, and at that point any of them win on the spot.

Rock on, my Manaless Dredge friend.

I've never come across premodern until today, but I love all the nostalgia and the spirit of the format! I rarely build 60cd and non-highlander anymore, so sorry if any suggestions aren't viable in this playstyle. Shield Sphere might be a nice freebie early blocker to help hold strong until the Hermit/Recurring Nightmare Squirrel-agedon goes off. Vine Dryad might also be reasonable if you're flooded with lands in hand early on, and Fallow Earth could help keep faster opponents...bogged down. One of my favorite old cards is Lure of Prey, but the payoff here isn't great. However, if you feel like putting in something like Symbiotic Wurm as another Recurring nightmare target, the lure might get things moving fast. Love this build! It's funny, cause I have a Selvala EDH deck called Crazy Cat Lady
Happy playing!

Hey, I like your deck. Do you think including Vine Dryad makes any sense?

For the MB, I get an average CMC of 0.88 for all my non-land cards. Keep in mind that Vine Dryad , Bounty of the Hunt , and Land Grant are all free, and Revenge of the Hunted is effectively CMC 1.

In general, I am not worried about these calculations, because the mana curve is effectively flat. If I have an opening hand with one land and a couple creatures, and some pump, then I'm good to go. This deck does require aggressive mulligans though. For example, I am not in the habit of keeping a Land Grant as my only "land" unless I am sure the opponent has no Force of Will or Daze . Even double Land Grant is risky.

I'll mention a few cards here then I'm done on this chain - it's a waste of time. Soooo here: Mutagenic Growth , Invigorate , Elvish Spirit Guide , Vine Dryad , Land Grant , Bounty of the Hunt , this is only a quick list of cards that pop in my melon, I'm sure there's allot more if I researched it and thought about it more, I just don't care enough... Think what you want : )

Looking good! A pauper all-star I loved using was Wild Dogs - two power for one mana is still a great threat to this day. Rogue Elephant and Pouncing Jaguar are also powerhouses, but you might feel uncomfortable supporting them with your mana base.

I always liked Vine Dryad for the potential of having a 3/3 trampler on turn one with help from Rancor.

Nice deck! Everyone fears, (or is at least annoyed by) Winter Orb. I've been running 10-Land Stompy since Odyssey Block, so of course I run Wild Mongrel. It not only fills the 2-drop slot, but also serves to utilize extra Land Grant and Elvish Spirit Guide in your hand. I see Bounty of the Hunt on your maybe board which is really good for the same reason. I used to run Vine Dryad, but it's low power disappointed me in such an aggressive deck. Skullclamp is fun to turn elves into cards.

Side board is tough and really depends on the field. My experience is that expensive blue decks win tournaments. So I run 4x Insist on the board. Hidden Gibbons is fun turn one, if you can sneak by Force of Will. Phyrexian Revoker is cheap way for green to interact with the opponent, I even main deck one now. Good luck and have fun!
