Verrak, Warped Sengir

Legendary Creature — Vampire

Flying, deathtouch, lifelink

Whenever you activate an ability that isn't a mana ability, if life was paid to activate it, you may pay that much life again. If you do, copy that ability. You may choose new targets for the copy.

I have replaced Nighthawk Scavenger with Verrak, Warped Sengir; I understand that this deck does not contain any cards that use payment of life as a cost, but he better synergies with Deathbringer Liege than did the scavenger and he also provides a legendary creature to serve as the face card of this deck.

Yesterday on Does K'rrik enable Verrak's ability?

I control a K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth and a Verrak, Warped Sengir and activate an ability with in its cost that doesn't normally cost life. Can I copy that ability with Verrak?

For instance, if I for some reason want to activate Tomb of Urami by paying and 2 life, and I for some reason want to copy that ability, can I pay an additional 2 life to create another token?

And if I were to activate it by paying and 4 life and wanted to copy it, I'd have to pay an additional 4 life?

TypicalTimmy on Favorite pulls you've had

I remember, also, that when Ixalan came out, I basically overdosed on excitement with the announcement of a Minotaur Planeswalker, since they are my favorite tribe. Angrath, Minotaur Pirate was the face card for the precon Standard deck of that time.

  • Remember those? The 60 card decks that WOTC use to make? This was before they started doing EDH Precons / Brawl decks.

My friends and I were joking about how awesome would it be if I pulled Angrath, the Flame-Chained from one of the two booster packs that the decks came with.

Sure as shit, in the 2nd pack, the last card was indeed Angrath, the Flame-Chained. To say I lost my freaking mind is an understatement.

I don't know, maybe it's just me being a Timmy. But I get super excited over cards others deem as "hot garbage" all the time. Because for me, it's not about winning. It's about playing the game.

I actually just lost two games in a row, to a coworker who wants to learn the game. And it's not as though I threw the matches, either. He picked up very quickly and was using the Dihada, Binder of Wills precon deck. Though, to be fair, he had a T2 Traxos, Scourge of Kroog the first game thanks to a Sol Ring, and then the second game he got out a T3 Verrak, Warped Sengir. Now Verrak isn't in the decklist, but when he bought the precon this was one of the cards in the little 2-card booster pack. That, along with Dihada and Arvad the Cursed was brutal.

And how could I forget, I pulled FIVE Tiamat! :D haha

To relate this thread to MtG, there is little doubt that Verrak, Warped Sengir was inspired by Count Orlok, as well.

ArmchairRuler on Is Defiler of Faith's ability …

I am working on a Verrak, Warped Sengir deck and I wanted to Include Defiler of Faith and Defiler of Flesh in the deck. Verrak's ability states that it cannot be used with mana abilities, but neither of the Defilers directly produce mana as far as I can tell. Would I be able to pay the two life a second time to double dip on the cost reduction on these cards?

multimedia The big win con for the prosper deck I am playing against is Marionette Master and all the treasure tokens my favorite opponent gets from the cast from exile feature of her commander. It is mesmerizing to watch. Basically turns out that I need more ramp and some more removal (as you said in an early review of my deck).

It is the aggro (especially if I manage to voltron Liesa) that wins me matches. I an still losing at about 60%.

I am not necessarily looking to buff the 1v1. I want a solid, well rounded deck that I do not have to take a loan out for. I will keep an eye out for Verrak, Warped Sengir.

My big hang up right now for the deck is ramp and removal. To deal with my opponents removal, I need extra ramp as I have a 5 drop commander. I have had winning cards in hand that I could not drop because I have to keep my commander in play to make the deck work. Last match ended with me at my 3rd cast of my commander and 4 5-drop cards in hand that were integral to my win conditions. Really, Orzhov ramp is my biggest hurdle right now.

The other thing I am working on right now it to work out the identity of the deck. Liesa wants to be a lifegain deck but also a stax deck. I am trying to balance that.

Hey, keep an eye on Verrak, Warped Sengir, new card in Dominaria United Commander precon Legends' Legacy. Extra activation for no additional mana cost just life is really good. Also has flying and lifelink. Deathtouch is nice with reanimation especially Sun Titan.

Verrak, Warped Sengir triggers from each activation, if you make a lot of Greed activations each one gets an extra activation for the cost of additional 2 life. 1 mana + 4 life to draw 2 cards is great value when you can consistently gain life. Priest of Fell Rites with Verrak can reanimate any two creatures in your graveyard for 6 life. Priest can be reanimated by Sun Titan.

Speaking of Sun Titan for reanimation it combines well with Apprentice Necromancer. They can reanimate each other and then one other permanent 3 CMC or less on your turn. That's excellent value for only 1 mana especially when it can be repeatable.

When Apprentice Necromancer reanimates Sun Titan you get two triggers, ETB and when Titan attacks because Necromancer gives it haste. Titan ETB reanimates Necromancer then attacks and reanimates any other permanent it can from your graveyard. At the end of your turn Titan is saced, putting it in your graveyard to repeat the interaction on your next turn.
