The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride

Legendary Creature — Frog Horror Mount

Trample, haste

Whenever The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride deals combat damage to a player, you may sacrifice a creature that saddled it this turn. If you do, draw X cards, then put up to X land cards from your hand onto the battlefield tapped, where X is the sacrificed creature's power.

Saddle 1 (Tap any number of other creatures you control with total power 1 or more: This Mount becomes Saddled until end of turn. Saddle only as a sorcery.)

AkaAkuma on Reyhan Kraum Marchesa Green

Love the deck idea! Tried it myself a couple of years back, but I couldn't ditch Ishai in the end. Right now i'm building a second deck with Reyhan partnering Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh,.. but having red and blue sounds really appealing too...

Now that i think about it, this deck does received allot of fun tools lately:

Neotrup on Gitrog & Kura?

The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride's ability must fully resolve before any other triggered abilities are put on the stack. You'll have to wait until after you've put lands out before you can search with Kura, the Boundless Sky. If the ability said "When you do" instead of "If you do" it would create a reflexive trigger that would give you the opportunity to slip the Kura trigger in between, but as written that is not the case.

wilsonthenarc on Gitrog & Kura?

Hello. I am playing Commander with The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride (as my Commander). I also happen to have Kura, the Boundless Sky in my deck. I just realized, I can saddle Gitrog with Kura. Assume Gitrog gets in and does damage. I sacrifice Kura.

So I have “Draw X cards, then put up to X land cards from your hand onto the battlefield tapped” where X is 4.

Kura dies, so I also have “When Kura dies, choose one (and I choose) Search your library for up to three land cards, reveal them, put them into your hand, then shuffle.”

Can I have Kura’s search trigger first? I want to put the 3 Lands I found directly into play with the Gitrog trigger.

How do Reyhan and Ishai serve you over Vorosh? I like your little Incubation Druid + Llanowar Reborn synergy, I might try this!

Speaking of creatures that like a graft, you should check Basking Broodscale which can go infinite with every other card...

Perhaps Agonasaur Rex is also a card worth considering. It grants a card, counters and evasion/protection in a pinch, but it also has a little synergy with the likes of Evolution Witness. Rex can be recurred continually, serving as a counter and carddraw manasink.

And perhaps i am mistaken, but i miss a bit of Oomph in the decklist. Any thoughts on Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord (usually 7 mana wincon), The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride (usually 5 mana win next turn) or Blade of Selves (swing with Reyhan, place 6 x 3 counters on anything)?

I can always appreciate a Reyhan and Ishai, and even with a primer! Nice.

Since you included a cathars, you should definitely check out Basking Broodscale and Crystalline Crawler.

My personal favorite is The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride with Reyhan lately. It quickly ramps out of control without losing power, even if you eat Reyhan with the frog. And if you can get wild with power, i would also really recommend giving Walking Archive or Giggling Skitterspike a try.

Cheers!

Ahh Jarad, my favorite golgari boy aside from The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride! This deck looks nice, I use him in a +1 counter setting where he is often a 7 mana game-ender.

Any thoughts on Spinner of Souls/Living Death? Or perhaps Springheart Nantuko seeing you have some landfall synergy. Copy your biggest guy and sac the token copy for value.

Flarhoon13 on Garth, where are the bodies, Garth?

Turn 4 was my first spell Reclamation Sage, "call me Rec" for Jesse's Eidolon of Rhetoric... I wanted my opponents to flood the board for my Phyrexian Rebirth. The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride had already hit me for 7. Turn 5, Mirari's Wake. Turn 6, Phyrexian Rebirth took out 4 of my opponents' creatures plus Rec Sage. I had floated enough for Garth One-Eye as well. Turn 7 my excitement for a giant Villainous Wealth was entirely dampened by Ethersworn Canonist. I cast Hydra Broodmaster with six mana available from lands plus a possible Black Lotus for 9, so I could monstrify for four 4/4s. I realized in this turn cycle, though... I should have just Disenchanted the Ethersworn Canonist. I ended up using Garth to cast his Disenchant, which worked out fine. Turn 8, I untapped, cast Black Lotus into Villainous Wealth for x=10, targeting Seth (The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride). It was the right choice. Among 8 total nonlands, I hit a Rune-Scarred Demon, which fetched the Palinchron. I used my remaining 5 mana from Orzhov Basilica and City of Brass to Time Warp. Turn 8, again, I generated infinite mana with the Palinchron and Mirari's Wake, so, creating a million hydras of enormous size. Garth One-Eye cast Regrowth on the Time Warp, allowing me to kill my opponents on my next extra turn

Flarhoon13 on Blim's Blumpkins

Finally!!! Lost one, won one yesterday evening! Let's talk about the win. I attacked turn 4 with Blim, Comedic Genius, gifting Francois, on Gyrus, Waker of Corpsesfoil, an Oni Possession. Blim, Comedic Genius never attacked again, even though I cast him for 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 mana. Later in the game, I cast a Sorcerous Spyglass and found an infinite combo in Aubrey's large grip... Exquisite Blood and Enduring Tenacity. Seeing that, I decided not to name Francois' Chainsaw nor his Lightning Greaves. Instead, I named Blighted Fen, which never seemed to matter.

Francois used Gyrus, Waker of Corpsesfoil to kill Aubrey, sending exactly enough to get 5 damage through, past his only creature, Athreos, God of Passage. I had a Tormod's Crypt out but never used it.

On my penultimate turn, at 6 life, I cast a Nefarious Lich and a Chain Reaction, taking out Tendershoot Dryad and The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride. I had about 9 cards in the yard, including AEther Flash, which had killed a Blood Artist and did a lot of work this game. A Demonic Collusion had found me a Blasphemous Act, which eventually took out Aubrey's Valgavoth, Terror Eater and several other blockers to allow Francois' kill shot on him. Auren was able to kill Francois. Auren passed turn to me while he was tapped out at 1 life with 5 tapped food, Night of the Sweets' Revenge in his graveyard, and his commander, Ygra, Eater of All making all creatures into delicious morsels. I made the ultimate top deck: Greed's Gambit. This allowed me to draw 9 cards with Nefarious Lich out. Among those nine was a Dark Petition which found me an Earthquake for the win. Finally!! Earthquake for 3 finally was enough to win the game.
