Tezzeret's Gatebreaker

Artifact

When Tezzeret's Gatebreaker enters the battlefield, look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal a blue or artifact card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

, , Sacrifice Tezzeret's Gatebreaker: Creatures you control can't be blocked this turn.

@Mikeb388 Nice!

I actually ran Tezzeret's Gatebreaker for a little bit but decided I didn't care for it. I either got it and it didn't do much other than fish for something or I got it in a game where I was already going to win. It's definitely a nice card but not one I want to include in this deck in the 4 CMC drop. Now if it were 3 CMC then I'd consider it more!

DangoDaikazoku Hey man, thanks for your comment! First of all, love the name! Immediately made me sing the song in my head haha. I appreciate your input on my deck, so let me just explain why I picked some things.

I put in Pillar of Origins for two reasons. One, I could declare either Wall or Dragon, allowing me to get a free mana with either, also freeing up mana on my board for potential combos, extra creatures, etc. I also picked it because it's an artifact, and would go well with Tezzeret, Artifice Master Zero ability, allowing me to draw two cards, if I have three or more artifacts on the field. I have Tezzeret's Gatebreaker in for three reasons, one is that it allows me to basically scry 5 cards, and seeing as how most of the deck is Blue or Artifacts, I'm almost guaranteed to find something I could use from it. Reason two being it's another artifact for Tezzeret's draw ability, and reason three, I could always use it as a backup in case both of my Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive or Suspicious Bookcase's are in the graveyard, exiled, bottom of my deck, etc. I only kept Novice Knight in there for a decent one drop creature, so I could totally substitute in two more Wall of Vines instead. Putting in some three drops is probably a good idea as well, do you have any recommendations? I'm looking on gatherer now, but any advice would be appreciated. I'll also totally add some counter spells to my sideboard. Thanks again for your comment!

I'm not all too familiar with the standard meta, but I'd suggest more three drops to curve out. If Unmoored Ego is a problem for you, I would suggest sideboarding in counterspells to prevent it from resolving since Ego appears to be more of a game two type of card. I also think you're running a lot of two drop cards that you could shave off a bit. Pillar of Origins doesn't seem the best in my opinion, because most of your Walls cost generic mana, or are mono-colored. I guess you could name Dragon with it, but it seems like a waste to spend that on one creature in your deck. You might want to add some three drop cards to allow you to curve out better as well, since you aren't running any right now. Tezzeret's Gatebreaker seems a little high on the curve for what it is. I would much rather run cantrips like Opt instead because it feels more consistent and mana efficient than a four CMC five card dig spell, and it's second ability is useless with Tetsuko on the field. I would also cut Novice Knight because it doesn't seem to be benefiting from anything in this deck since you're not running enchantments or equipment. Wall of Vines is one of the better one drop Walls in standard, so I would add a couple of those in Knight's place. I hope that's enough advice for now, I know I threw a lot at you but if you have any questions feel free to tag me and I'll find my way back here. :)

SauceJuice16 the sideboard is always up to interpretation for personal reasons. I just like having the 3rd in there for extra measure and I have 4 to use personally but I wouldn't consider any piece of the sideboard mandatory other than Phyrexian Scriptures, Damping Sphere and Tezzeret's Gatebreaker. And with diamond mare I've noticed to tend to pick Blue only because the majority of what you want regularly hitting the field are blue spells. Black should here and there fill in gaps but I see where sometimes it could play they other way if you just hit all the removal and a Phylactery Lich
