Takklemaggot

Enchantment — Aura

Enchant creature

At the beginning of the upkeep of enchanted creature's controller, put a -0/-1 counter on that creature.

When enchanted creature is put into a graveyard, that creature's controller chooses a creature that Takklemaggot could enchant. If he or she does, return Takklemaggot to the battlefield under your control attached to that creature. If he or she doesn't, return Takklemaggot to the battlefield under your control as a non-Aura enchantment. It loses "enchant creature" and gains "At the beginning of that player's upkeep, Takklemaggot deals 1 damage to him or her."

Masquerade of Paliano

Sorcery

Until your next turn, creatures must attack the player with the highest life total if able.

or if you play more competetively

The Great Masquerade of Paliano

Sorcery

Until the end of your next turn, each player gains control of the player to their left. Exile ~.

I think I like the second one more, but it's probably too goofy to actually see print. How about a Takklemaggot-like card in white?

Additionally, because of the way auras attach to objects when not cast and the way Takklemaggot's ability works the object it attaches to is chosen as the ability resolves, not when it hits the stack as is normally the case. So they can't choose their own 2/2 before it dies and have Takklemaggot's ability fizzle.

From Gatherer: The player who controlled the creature that went to the graveyard (and caused Takklemaggot’s second ability to trigger) chooses what creature Takklemaggot will return to the battlefield attached to. The creature isn’t chosen until the ability resolves, so no player can respond between the time the creature is chosen and the time Takklemaggot returns to the battlefield attached to it. The ability doesn’t target a creature, so a creature with shroud, for example, can be chosen. However, only a creature that can be legally enchanted by Takklemaggot can be chosen, so a creature with protection from black, for example, can’t be chosen. If the player can choose a creature, they must do so, no matter who controls it. If the player can’t choose a creature, Takklemaggot returns to the battlefield as a non-Aura enchantment, and that player is the player that Takklemaggot will deal damage to.

Takklemaggot hits the graveyard. From the Gatherer rulings:

When the enchanted creature is put into a graveyard, Takklemaggot’s second ability triggers, then Takklemaggot is put into its owner’s graveyard as a state-based action. When the ability resolves, if Takklemaggot is still in that graveyard, it’s returned to the battlefield.

In the scenario you describe: Last Laugh and Takklemaggot's triggers hit the stack at the same time, but you control both even if you aren't choosing objects for Takklemaggot*. You order triggers, you can make Takklemaggot the last to resolve such that their 2/2 dies, triggers Last Laugh, leaving your 4/4 the only valid target.

*Also from the Gatherer rulings: Takklemaggot’s controller no longer changes as it returns to the battlefield. The player who controlled it when it left the battlefield is the same player that controls it when it returns to the battlefield, even though a different player may be choosing what it will be attached to after returning onto the battlefield.

Does Takklemaggot ever "touch" the graveyard?

And if so, is this interaction correct?

I have a Last Laugh on the battlefield. I also cast Takklemaggot on my turn targeting my opponents 1/1 token. The opponent also controls a 2/2 and I control a 4/4 token. I pass my turn.

So on the upkeep Takklemaggot kills the token, now 2 cards a sent to the graveyard which will kill their 2/2 token. My question is how does the stack work here? I honestly have no idea. Could they put the Takklemaggot onto the 2/2 by controlling the stack so they can kill my 4/4, or do I choose how they resolve?

+1 for the Maggot. Love Takklemaggot decks. I noticed you have Crusading Knight in the sideboard. That card has great synergy with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. With Urborg in play all of your opponent's lands count as swamps. And Urborg would help you get black mana when you need it too. Takes it out of the budget realm though if you don't have a few laying around.

I like your deck!

I made a similar deck using creatures with protection from black and turning all creatures black using Darkest Hour.

Another suggestion would be the Crown of the Ages in the off chance your opponent gets the Takklemaggot onto one of your creatures, you can give it right back to them.

Feel free to check out what I did with my deck What a day for a Knight and what a Night for a Day
