Sword of Once and Future

Artifact — Equipment

Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from blue and from black. ((Remember the acronym debt.) This can't be damaged, enchanted, equipped, blocked or targeted by anything blue or black. Anything blue or black attached to this immediately falls off.)

Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, surveil 2. Then you may cast an instant or sorcery spell with mana value 2 or less from your graveyard without paying its mana cost. If that spell would be put into your graveyard, exile it instead. (To Surveil 2, look at the top two cards of your library. You may put any number of then into your graveyard and the rest ontop in any order.)

Equip (: Attach this to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature this card is attached to leaves the battlefield.)

I removed Armory of Iroas, Glaive of the Guildpact and Trepanation Blade. Armory was too much of a hassle to point out that yes, there are in fact swords in the artwork. Also, the counters are nice but take a really long time to build up. Creature removal means the whole sha-bang resets, too. Glaive of the Guildpact is a sword in art, but I don't want people to argue that it's a "glaive" because of the name. Also, it honestly isn't that good for this deck. As for Tre Blade, it's true that this is not "technically" a sword.

I added Sword of Once and Future and Sword of Forge and Frontier to finish the cycle off, as well as the super awesome Drach'Nyen.

I do technically need to find a replacement for Sword of Dungeons & Dragons, just in case the table I sit down with isn't cool with me using that card since it's silver bordered.

There is Blasphemous Act from Warhammer: 40k I could use :)

Any thoughts on Sword of Once and Future? Scry feels like card draw, and we have about three instants and about three sorceries we can target with it (that are not counterspells or X spells) for that card advantage. I am thinking of replacing Strength-Testing Hammer with it since we no longer have to hope for a high roll or us having the highest power for the card advantage, and this has better protection/evasion for our commander, although not tutorable by Urza's Saga like the hammer is.

Reconfigure:

Equipped creature gains +2/+2 for each Equipment attached to the equipped creature.

Whenever ~ becomes unattached from a creature, exile it. Then search your library for an Equipment and put it onto the battlefield attached to target creature you control.

This card can be your commander.

2/2

"Devoid of all thoughts but one: The collection and use of the strongest and rarest of blades known. It will surely stop at nothing to achieve it."

So we have dual color protection swords, i.e Sword of Light and Shadow and Sword of Fire and Ice being the first two of them in Darksteel, and the last two, Sword of Forge and Frontier and Sword of Once and Future. But what about a Truly All encompassing Sword? A sword to rule them all?

It has been almost a month since my previous post in this thread, but I now am ready to post my new list, to include the final sword, as follows:

10: Sword of Forge and Frontier

9: Sword of Once and Future

8: Sword of Body and Mind

7: Sword of War and Peace

6: Sword of Truth and Justice

5: Sword of Light and Shadow

4: Sword of Sinew and Steel

3: Sword of Hearth and Home

2: Sword of Feast and Famine

1: Sword of Fire and Ice

First, I ranked the final sword, Sword of Once and Future, as ninth place out of ten, because its abilities are so narrow that it requires that a deck be built specifically to take advantage of them, a trait that it shares with Sword of Forge and Frontier; if it surveilled more than two cards or could cast a spell with a mana value higher than 2, I believe that it would have been far more versatile. Second, I switched the places of Sword of Body and Mind and Sword of War and Peace, because I now realize that SoBaM is nearly as conditional as are the two lowest swords, as very few decks focus on both milling and creating tokens, where as SoWaP is actually more versatile and not nearly as conditional as I originally judged it to be.

What does everyone here think of my new rankings?
