Singe-Mind Ogre

Creature — Ogre Mutant

When Singe-Mind Ogre enters the battlefield, target player reveals a card at random from his or her hand, then loses life equal to that card's converted mana cost.

wallisface First of all, I really appreciate all the time and thought you're giving this deck. I'm def still looking for better instants and sorceries and thinking about what you've written and how the deck can be faster, stronger, more efficient, resilient, etc. Generally, I'm the sort of player that wants to either protect my big threats or have a way to bring them out of the graveyard. Given graveyards may get exiled, possibly even more than once a game, protection seems the smarter gambit in this deck, but I don't see many great options like I'm used to with green and white. Can you tell why I'm not a black/red player, lol?

While Wrecking Ogre's best target is a Vessel, it's not the only target. It can just enter on it's own or it could target Shakedown Heavy. I believe opponents will have to take advantage of Heavy's card draw option before damage is assigned, so if it gets through, I'd have time to Bloodrush a Wrecking Ogre on it. Additionally, I can use the pumps on Wrecking Ogre, which makes it fairly scary. While 5 MV might seem high, for +3/+3 and double strike, 5 is the low end of possible costs. The only other two spells that do the same (or better) are Sangrite Surge & Embercleave, both of which are worse. There are some 3-drop spells that grant +1/+1 and double strike like Uncaged Fury, but +1/+1 doesn't help Vessel kill an opponent, and 3 MV is still a fairly high cost. (not 1MV)

I'd def like to be able to do something other than scry on T1, I just haven't found anything that synergizes. A fatal push t1 isn't always a great game plan.

In my playtests, the deck works decently. I'm certain it could be better. As I mentioned in the deck's description, there aren't a lot of great creature choices in the Ogre tribe. Wrecking Ogre is at least partly in because 1) it's not legendary, 2) It synergizes with with both my 3-drop threats, & 3) It's an ogre. Other Ogres I considered: Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos, Singe-Mind Ogre, Hellhole Flailer.

Crown-Hunter Hireling is a great cheap Ogre worth including. In B/R, and especially in a budget build, card draw is scarce, and the monarchy is great way to solve that problem. And give you an excuse to hit people.

Deathforge Shaman is a great finisher creature to play, and its also super strong with Rakdos since you can use the mana for its multikicker instead of casting it.

Heartless Hidetsugu is an absolutely nasty creature that really helps accelerate aggressive games, and is super powerful in multiplayer. Lets you play stuff nearly for free with Rakdos in play.

Hellhole Flailer is strong creature for its casting cost, and is just about strictly better than, say, Ogre Resister.

Henchfiend of Ukor is a cool-looking Ogre that fits into your colors and comes in swinging.

Ogre Geargrabber seems like interesting tech against voltron decks, or if you want to get rid of a Sword of X and Y from something.

Rustmouth Ogre is hard, repeatable artifact removal; an essential effect in EDH.

Singe-Mind Ogre has real potential to hit something super huge, especially in Commander where the average mana curve is much higher.

Treasonous Ogre is everything you want in EDH. Floods life into mana for casting big creatures, or just enough for that Deathforge Shaman multikicker. Dethrone is also a super relevant ability.

Viscera Dragger has a lot of value going for it; cycle it for another card, and then unearth it for two mana for extra attacking power.

Alright, first thread here and I'm hoping the mad scientists here can help me out. I'm building a deck centered around Master of Cruelties, obviously a cool card and one that I would like to see if I can make work. I have a rough idea, centered around a combo of Master of Cruelties, Heartless Summoning, Break Through the Line, and then finishing it all off with a quick, cheap burn spell. I'll post the deck list, side board, and also some cards I've been thinking of adding. I welcome any ideas you guys have for me.

Deck List

4 Blood Crypt

3 Cavern of Souls

4 Dragonskull Summit

6 Mountain

1 Bloodfell Caves

6 Swamp

24 Lands

3 Master of Cruelties

3 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch

2 Rakdos, Lord of Riots

2 Mogis, God of Slaughter

2 Singe-Mind Ogre

4 Vexing Devil

16 Creatures

3 Heartless Summoning

3 Dreadbore

3 Break Through the Line

3 Sign in Blood

4 Lightning Bolt

4 Lava Spike

20 Spells

Sideboard;

3 Duress

3 Sire Of Insanity

2 Glaring Spotlight

2 Slaughter Games

2 Rending Volley

3 Blightning

So the main idea of the deck is to use Cavern of Souls to protect Master of Cruelties. From there you combo Heartless Summoning to get him out early, Break Through the Line to get him in quick, and then burn to end it quick. If that isn't happening, Rakdos, Lord of Riots and Mogis, God of Slaughter are there in support while you keep working the burn.

Some other cards I'm kicking around maybe using are;

Tragic Slip

Chandra, the Firebrand

Ashenmoor Liege

Dictate of the Twin Gods

Desecration Demon

Bump in the Night

Flames of the Blood Hand

Rakdos Charm

This deck isn't going to be used to try and take the Tour or anything like that, just for some fun FNM and against my own playgroup. I think it could be pretty good, but also, i've thought that before and paid the price. So this is what I've got so far, I welcome any and all opinions.

Cheers.

Today was Alara Reborn, which was an all-gold set ... and the pack was pretty much amazing.

Almost every card was fine or better. Naya Hushblade, Violent Outburst, Singe-Mind Ogre, Pale Recluse, Colossal Might, and Putrid Leech were standouts at Common, and Flurry of Wings, Zealous Persecution, and Messenger Falcons looked decent at Uncommon.

Our Rare though was the pick:
