Thank you for another suggestion. I actually tried Pact of the Serpent in this deck earlier, and what I found out is that although the potential was great, it really sucked to have it rely on my board state. It did pay out greatly in certain scenarios, but other times, especially when I was behind, it was a dead draw. Its inability to get me ahead when behind is what made me cut it in the end.

That being said, paying 3 to draw, like, 6 and lose 6 is enticing. Its allure worked on me once already, so maybe I'll give it another try after putting in some more reliable card draw first.

Great to here my comment was useful. Gateway is verypowerful in my giant tribal EDH, 'cause those guys are pretty expensive.

In case you need more card draw, Pact of the Serpent might be another good choice.

Hey, well done so far upgrading the precon, nice Phyrexian Altar.

Some cards from the precon to consider adding:

Talisman of Dominance ETB untapped to make either color. Another mana rock upgrade is Dimir Signet replacing Charcoal Diamond. Dreadhorde Invasion is a repeatable source of Zombie and Eternal Skylord is a much worse Hordewing Skaab. Curse of the Restless Dead is a more reliable repeatable source of Zombies than Undead Alchemist.

Pact of the Serpent is powerful tribal card for Zombies. Battle at the Bridge needs lots more artifacts to be playable. Zombie Apocalypse is powerful tribal card for Zombies especially when your Commander sacs Zombies to draw. Patriarch's Bidding is another mass reanimation tribal Zombie card. Dread Summons needs a ton of mana paid into it to be decent since you have no control over milling your own or opponent creatures.

Gisa and Geralf can be repeatable cast of Zombies from your graveyard which can do more than Ebondeath, Dracolich. Feed the Swarm is helpful to have enchantment removal in Dimir. Liliana, Death's Majesty can be repeatable Zombies and her other abilities are good too. She does more than Liliana's Mastery, but honestly you don't need either one of these cards since there's better five drops here or could add.

The more basic Islands you can replace with Dimir dual lands the better the manabase will be because black mana is much important than blue. Lots of basic Islands makes it more difficult to cast heavy black spells. Tainted Isle and Choked Estuary are playable lands in the precon that care about Swamps and you have a lot of Swamps.

Introducing Cumly Cube 1.1! 6 months ago, Cumly Cube was launched to resounding approval. However, in response to feedback from fans, several cards in the pool were deemed unplayable, uninteresting, or overpowered. For Cumly Cube's six month anniversary, I have chosen to update the card pool. Here are the changes, provided with brief justifications:

REMOVED:

  • Abomination: too weak in power level
  • Anger of the Gods: while board wipes are an essential part of the game, this card is too simple in effect in comparison to other red board wipes in the card pool
  • Birthing Pod: synergizes poorly with the rest of the card pool
  • Black Dragon: too weak in power level
  • Black Lotus: this card and other "power 9" cards have been removed from the pool to allow players to play with less well known cards
  • Bloodcurdling Scream: too weak in power level
  • Cavalier of Night: too on-theme for a black card
  • Cinderclasm: while board wipes are an essential part of the game, this card is too simple in effect in comparison to other red board wipes in the card pool
  • Dack Fayden: too powerful
  • District Guide: synergizes poorly with the rest of the card pool
  • Dockside Extortionist: too strong in multiplayer games considering the dominance of the "treasure matters" archetype in this card pool
  • Dread Reaper: too weak in power level
  • Edric, Spymaster of Trest: too powerful
  • Eviscerator: too weak in power level
  • Grim Strider: too weak in power level
  • Hypnox: too weak in power level
  • Jungle Creeper: too weak in power level
  • Mind Bomb: too weak in power level
  • Mox Emerald: this card and other "power 9" cards have been removed from the pool to allow players to play with less well known cards
  • Mox Jet: this card and other "power 9" cards have been removed from the pool to allow players to play with less well known cards

  • Tibalt's Trickery: introduces too much variance for an enjoyable experience
  • Unholy Strength: too weak in power level
  • Vampiric Link: too on-theme for a black card
  • Wooded Bastion: this was included on error instead of its Golgari counterpart

     Very cool build! I love a lot of your card choices like Gruesome Fate & Dina, Soul Steeper. =D

     Nothing too crazy, but a few suggestions! You could cut Eliminate in favour of Abrupt Decay. In that same vein, you've got a lot of creature removal but not as many ways to deal with other permanent types, so I think Acidic Slime would be a better fit than Shriekmaw. I also wonder if Tragic Slip over Eaten Alive might be a good change - even though it doesn't hit Planeswalkers at least it's Instant-speed and only one mana to cast, and still removes Indestructible creatures.

     Cards that I think would be great additions but I'm not sure what the best cuts would be for your playstyle: Birthing Pod, Bastion of Remembrance, Throne of the God-Pharaoh & Pact of the Serpent.

     Only other suggestion is maybe find room for a few more lands. You're not playing that much card draw, so you may find it tough to hit your land drops consistently through turn 5/6.

     Last_Laugh: I used to run Reconnaissance in my old Kaalia deck and it was super good! Good call! =)

     NerdPounder: I like pretty much all of your suggestions! =D

     Vampire Socialite & Falkenrath Pit Fighter both used to be in the deck. They were actually both cut in favour of the instant speed draw spells (Village Rites, etc.), as I often found I pretty much always have creatures to sacrifice, but didn't always have cards to discard. The instant speed draw is pretty nice to have in response to board wipes as well, but since then I've also added Pact of the Serpent and Phyrexian Arena, so perhaps I don't need them anymore.

     There are a few life gain decks in my playgroup which was the inspiration for the inclusion of Sorin Markov, but you're right that he doesn't really add any value beyond that. Probably he'll be replaced with Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord.

     Smothering Tithe is just a really solid card, and really good with Anointed Procession, but you're right that it is distracting from my strategy and could likely be cut. Olivia Voldaren is definitely in that camp as well. In the couple months this deck has been together I've cast her a number of times but have never activated her lol.

     I do disagree about cutting Vicious Conquistador, though. Between it and Pulse Tracker in combination with Impact Tremors, Purphoros, God of the Forge and Sanctum Seeker they can really help with piling on damage over the course of the game.

     I used to use Legion's Landing  Flip when Ixalan was in Standard but had kind of forgotten this card existed haha, good call! Adanto Vanguard was also in that same deck, and it was a really great beater with great sticking power. I think it's going to find a home here as well.

Pact of the Serpent from the Kaldheim elf precon is a great one for Edgar. Olivia's Wrath from the Crimson Vow vampire precon is another great one.

Reconnaissance is great because it lets you get any attack triggers (like Edgar's) you need and can immediately pull them back out of combat and out of danger.

I can definitely see removing Casualties of War. It is devastating in the right context, but it does cost six mana, and while you'll have much more than most, it sometimes better just to play more mana efficient single-target removal spells like Beast Within, Go for the Throat, Hero's Downfall, etc.

I actually like Gnarlroot Trapper because it's another dork. I think if you build this right you'll have a lot of lifegain and the one won't bother you too much, and of course the deathtouch is a nice bonus.

I think Pact of the Serpent is a great card. You could potentially draw a crazy amount of cards with it, but for three mana it will be great even if you get only three to five.

I hear the argument on Twinblade Assassins. Five mana is a lot for something that will only draw you one extra card on each of your turns, provided that something dies. This is on top of the fact that creatures are the easiest permanent type to kill. Phyrexian Arena would give you the card automatically. Dark Prophecy would give you one any time one of your creatures dies. Grim Haruspex will give you one any time a non-token creature dies. Beast Whisperer gives you one whenever an elf ETBs. These are all very good rates, unlike Assassin. You need to have 10-12 pieces of card draw in the deck, but this is a suboptimal one. I also think if you get this going right you'll have a lot of things dying, and Miara, Thorn of the Glade will be a powerhouse. Moldervine Reclamation is similar. Last week my friend who play's Lathril had something like twenty-five elves on the battlefield (which is easy to do when you play Lathril right!) I had to board wipe him to keep us alive, but he drew a quarter of his deck and gained 25 life. Needless to say, it was a temporary reprieve at best! It's a good card.

You definitely want Farhaven Elf, Springbloom Druid, and Wood Elves in any elf deck in commander- they are the best there is. Fetching your lands and ramping them onto the battlefield while leaving a body behind that can attack and block and be anthemed by your lords is really great.

Binding the Old Gods is kind of meh. I think your instinct is correct there! It costs 4 mana and is slow and grindy for what it does. Sure, we need to kill stuff and ramp lands, but when we kill stuff we'd rather just use Doom Blade for 2cmc.

Cultivator of Blades isn't essential, but it's very easy to underrate. At minimum it gives all of your elves +3/+3 when you attack till end of turn. If Elvish Archdruid is out its +4/+4. If you tap Timberwatch Elf to dump ten counters on it and then immediately attack, your opponents are going to die that turn. The best part is that they'll never see it coming the first time you do it!
