Ondu Rising

Sorcery

Whenever a creature attacks this turn, it gains lifelink until end of turn.

Awaken 4— (If you cast this spell for , also put four +1/+1 counters on target land you control and it becomes a 0/0 Elemental creature with haste. It's still a land.)

legendofa on Is Awaken an activated ability?

2 months ago

Awaken (example card: Ondu Rising) is not an activated ability. The easiest way to tell is to look for a colon. Activated abilities are always written as cost: effect, so if it has a :, it's an activated ability. If not, then it isn't.

so some other lifegain options are

Authority of the Consuls - gains life every time an opponent plays a creature and taps that creature down, letting you swing in. Obviously dependent on your opponent here.

Path of Bravery - gains life everytime you swing, which should hopefully be often and buffs your creatures for it.

as for Bonds, I was surprised to find that there aren't that many cards in white that tap all creatures your opponent controls. The only cheaper option with that effect is AEther Shockwave . If you're looking for a mass lifelink, an alternative would be Ondu Rising .

A couple of suggestions of cats you could add:Prowling Serpopard to deal with control decks; Aetherstream Leopard + Riparian Tiger to better exploit charge counters; Scrounging Bandar early game creature that can help out your bigger cats late game; Scythe Leopard early game creatures; Felidar Cub can serve as artifact removal or just attack; Felidar Sovereign also a potential win condition

Some instants you could add:Acrobatic Maneuver + Eerie Interlude + Long Road Home blink a cat to avoid damage or to re-trigger Regal Caracal; Appetite for the Unnatural + Decommission makes great enchantment or artifact removal; Commencement of Festivities + Encircling Fissure to stall longer; Gift of Strength + Highspire Infusion + Mighty Leap + Shed Weakness + Swell of Growth for buffing; Gideon's Reproach + Immolating Glare for potentially cheap removal; Life Goes On is really cheap life gain and can combo with Felidar Sovereign; Lifecrafter's Gift can combo with Metallic Mimic; Pulse of Murasa is a generally good card; Prepare / Fight + Tenacity for a smack down end game

Some sorceries:Appeal / Authority + Driven / Despair + Engineered Might + Larger Than Life + Ondu Rising + Overcome for more end game smack down; Approach of the Second Sun could be a win condition if you want, especially if you're stalling; Attune with Aether for lands and energy; Chaplain's Blessing for extra life and to combo with Felidar Sovereign; Collective Effort has a variety of good uses; Dubious Challenge would work well if you get more high cost creatures; Earthen Arms + Incremental Growth for a permanent buff; Mouth / Feed for a creature and card draws; Not Forgotten to either fetch from graveyard or remove from graveyard;

Finally, a few enchantments:Cartouche of Strength + Cartouche of Solidarity + Gryff's Boon + Conviction + Iona's Blessing major creature buffs, Call for Unity + Trial of Solidarity end game smack down, Always Watching make all your non token cats stronger; Authority of the Consuls to punish your opponent and limit his blockers; Bonds of Mortality potentially add to deal with hexproof and indestructible; Bound by Moonsilver removal that can move; Durable Handicraft + Oath of Ajani + Retreat to Kazandu adds more +1/+1 counters; Overwhelming Splendor + Sandwurm Convergence wind condition; Gift of Paradise extra life and mana;

Of course, this is far more cards then you could have in your deck, so you'll need to mix and match. I really recommend Felidar Sovereign and some heal cards like Life Goes On, as this makes a potentially very easy win con. I also think you should try to exploit getting +1/+1 counters more, since green and white are perfect for that. Lots of potential cards for cat decks, I wish you luck finding a good selection.

This deck looks pretty effective, however, your numbers seem slightly off. For example; Roil Spout should be a full playset, whereas, Sheer Drop shouldn't be at three, perhaps you could look at Declaration in Stone, or Immolating Glare, I understand it creates a land critter, however, it just isn't worth it to pay three mana to do something that could be done easier and for less. Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper should be in a higher count, as he works wonders with the Awaken mechanic. You are going to want to see him on the battlefield almost every game, not once every three games. Ondu Rising is pretty awful, it'd be better to use a Clutch of Currents in its place. This deck looks pretty fun to play, I'm excited the Standard format still has creative people playing in it. Most decks in Standard are Tier 1 Vehicles/Saheeli Jeskai/BG Counters/Esper Control decks. Awaken is a mechanic that I've never really thought about building around, but after seeing this deck and a couple Bant ones laying around, it makes me itch for building around the mechanic.

Your welcome. I love Tandem Tactics to keep my stuff alive when the opponent thinks I'll trade. Some other cards similar to this is Survive the Night, Rush of Vitality, Encircling Fissure, Ondu Rising and Tenacity.

Neotrup on 2nd main phase lifelink

7 years ago

Ondu Rising doesn't give creatures that attacked lifelink, what it does is create a delayed triggered ability "Whenever a creature you control attacks this turn, it gains lifelink." That means, the next time you attack after casting Ondu Rising this turn the ability will trigger once for each creature you attack with. As you're casting it on the second main phase, that event is rather unlikely to occur, but not impossible.

acbooster on 2nd main phase lifelink

No. Casting Ondu Rising in your second main phase will do nothing useful (unless you cast it for its Awaken cost) unless you have an additional combat.

Nothing in Magic ever applies retroactively to any event. Not to mention that Ondu Rising looks for the exact moment a creature attacks that turn. If it sees a creature attacking, it'll give that creature lifelink until end of turn, but it doesn't look back in the turn to before it was cast to see if the event happened there.

Hwedlor on 2nd main phase lifelink

ok, here is the scenario...

I have 3 1/1 servo on the battlefield that are getting ready to swing in on the attack phase.

Attack phase happens and I hit my opponents dome for 3, woot.

then in 2nd main phase I play Ondu Rising. This giving all creatures that attacked this turn lifelink for the turn.

This means that this card would do an immediate check and see the 3 attackers that have dealt damage already awarding me 3 life, correct?
