Old-Growth Troll

Creature — Troll Warrior

Trample

When Old-Growth Troll dies (is put into the graveyard from the battlefield), if it was a creature return it to the battlefield. It's an Aura enchantment with enchant Forest you control and "Enchanted Forest has ': Gain ' and ', , Sacrifice this land: Create a tapped 4/4 green Troll Warrior creature token with trample.'"

Always a fan of creative strategies in Modern, and this certainly is one! I agree with kamarupa that Flare seems like a good fit in here. It also seems like Oculus is your only major threat which could leave you weak to something like Surgical Extraction or just RNG though Neoform for 4 more copies is good. But a second threat could be nice, my first though was Nulldrifter because this is a flexible draw spell or a body to copy in the late game. But your deck is nil ramp all so a 7 drop is tough without more build around. My second thought was Old-Growth Troll which is another chonky 3-drop beater to neoform into, plus it has synergy where you sac it to neo to find fleshcrafter, it comes back as an enchant before neo resolves, then you can use the ability to make the troll, then search the fleshcrafter to get 2 4/4s. Not as good as Oculus, but it could add some redundancy and grind value IMO

I've had an almost identical deck for more than 5 years, and it has beaten most of my friend's modern decks.

What pushes it over the top is a set of Collected Companyfoil. It has gotten me double Groundbreaker out of thin air to hit for 12 trample damage on a turn.

The main differences with your deck are that I run 4 Noble Hierarch for a T2 exalted Groundbreaker and to ramp faster to CoCo or generate mana to lvl up hexdrinker; a couple of Old-Growth Troll instead of Steel-leaf champions for more resilience against removal and incidental ramp; 1 Polukranos Reborn  Flip instead of Rhonas (which I used to play but most of the time it wasn't a creature due to removal of other creatures) which threatens a wincon if not removed before you transform it; 2 Beast Within instead of the dismembers to deal with any permanent; 2 Boggart Ram-Gangfoil for more hasty damage and devotion; 1 Treetop Village; and 4 CoCos instead of the Rancors. The rest is the same.

I can attest that hexdrinkers are also all-stars in the deck.

  • Since you are playing Arbor Elf, Old-Growth Troll and Utopia Sprawl, you need to be 100% sure that you have Forest in your opening hand. You are now playing 12 Forests, which don't guarantee that. I would suggest that you go up to 16 at least.
  • Aspect of Hydra is not a good card in your build. It works well only in a mono-green deck. Remove them. Ghor-Clan Rampager is a better pump and also a good creature with trample.
  • Commune with Nature is a bad card. If you want a better alternative, play Once Upon a Time, but best would be to play none of it - it's only relevant in combo decks.
  • Trample works well with Deathtouch, since you need to assign only 1 damage to each blocker and the rest to the player. Try 1 Bow of Nylea and 1 Basilisk Collar.
  • Return to Nature is a situational card which may end up dead in your hand. Such cards are not to be played in main deck, only in sideboard.
  • Don't play Thrill of Possibility. You don't have any synergy with it. Instead of spending 2 mana to get to cards you want, play cards you want.
  • Colossal Rattlewurm is a 6/5 trample for 4 mana with some upsides. Play some 2 Ramunap Ruins instead of a Basic Mountain to support it.
  • Explore is questionable. I suggest you remove them. Add extra Arbor Elf and you have one free slot.
  • As was already mentioned, 1 Stonebrow, Krosan Hero should make it into the deck.

Have you tried/considered Old-Growth Troll in lieu of Overgrowth?

Also, I run Magus of the Candelabra in my green devotion over Voyaging Satyr. It can hit both your Nythos and Castle.

I would recommend adding Counters to the hubs. You could use Wildwood Scourge since it can get counters pretty easily from your other creatures. Gala Greeters would also flow nicely with it's ability to gain you life, ramp with treasure tokens or put counters on itself. This is a maybe but you could use Duskshell Crawler or Gnarlid Colony for it's ability to make creatures with counters have trample. Also, with what Dead_Blue_ recommended, Old-Growth Troll it's pretty good value, ramping after death then the ability to come back as a token of itself. Last thing, I would recommend using Tribute to the World Tree but it's a little pricey for the budget. It can provide card draw from the bigger creatures and more counters from the smaller ones.

Easy Cuts

Old-Growth Troll, Walking Skyscraper, Smoke Spirits' Aid, Vastwood Surge, Sword of Vengeance, Unquenchable Fury, One with the Kami, Elemental Mastery,

Ox of Agonas (Swap for Inspiring Call), Ulvenwald Oddity  Flip (switch for Primal Rage), Spearbreaker Behemoth (Swap for Heroic Intervention I have a copy of this card to give you.), Ascendant Acolyte - maybe cut? good card but i think you can do better.

Shifting Shadow, only keep if you have a lot of creatures with ETB effects. By a lot I mean at least 10.

Blackblade Reforged, Bonehoard, andFireshrieker can be upgraded for more synergistic equipment or auras. For example Bone Sabres, Fractal Harness, and Luxior, Giada's Gift. Search scryfall for equipment with counter keywords, then do the same for auras. You should absolutely play Sword of Truth and Justice

Search scryfall for cards with "evolve" for early game creatures that are growers, not showers. I highly recommend Experiment One and Gyre Sage! Gyre is 100% better than either spell I talk about below. vv

Most ramp spells in your deck should cost 2 or less CMC. 3 is fine. But you want to play them early game rather than late game. Cards like Tanuki Transplanter are very good ramp spells, but you only want 1 or 2 ramp spells that cost 4 or greater in your deck. I would keep this card in your deck depending on what the rest of your ramp looks like. Rampant Rejuvenator is another 4 cmc ramp. it does synergies with your counter theme, but its less dependable ramp because it has to die and your deck isn't playing sac outlets like Phyrexian Alter. on the plus side it is nice to beef it up and wait for that pending board wipe to slingshot your land base past the rest of the table. These are the tough decisions we are faced with. You should cut one of these cards. Keep Bear Umbra, it is better than both above mentioned and has the same CMC.

I would cut most lands that enter the battlefield tapped, they really f*ck up your early game. its ok to have a few, but they better be worth it.

Old-Growth Troll can come back repeatedly as a creature, enchantment, and then another creature!

Aphemia, the Cacophony also gives you an enchantment creature that gives you some extra value ^^
