Misery Charm Discussion

Love the deck! Amoeboid Changeling is one of my favorite cards in the game.

I feel like you could up your consistency by taking out black. You have a lot of effects like Misery Charm in the deck already.

Demonic Charm

Tribal Instant - Demon

Choose one:

  • For each Demon you control, draw a card an lose 1 life.
  • Each Demon deals damage equal to its power to its controller
  • Each player sacrifices a creature with power less than 3.

Another tribal charm, but following the template of Misery Charm, with two abilities directly related to the type, one positive, one negative, and a third unrelated.

Curse of Confusion

Enchantment-Aura Curse

Enchant Player

At the beginning of enchanted players upkeep, return target creature to it's the top of its owner library. If enchanted player controls no creatures create a copy of ~ and attach it to target player.

Slow by it self yes but with board whips, mass bounce or mass exile it can quickly have everyone you don;t like cursed some with double or more as these aren't legendary curses

Make a Tribal Charm like Misery Charm for any tribe (Bonus Points if it's not a highly popular tribe like angels, dragon, elves or goblins)

Please use double square brackets to link cards in your question. It makes it easier for everyone to understand the question, especially with so many cards referenced. Like so:

[[Darien, King of Kjeldor]], [[Aetherflux Reservoir]], [[Worship]], [[Serra the Benevolent]], [[Anointer Priest]]
Darien, King of Kjeldor, Aetherflux Reservoir, Worship, Serra the Benevolent, Anointer Priest

You can't get the combo to start the way you want. Per the rules, you can't pay more life than you have. Since you have 36 life, you can't activate Aetherflux Reservoir's ability to damage yourself.

  • 119.4. If a cost or effect allows a player to pay an amount of life greater than 0, the player may do so only if their life total is greater than or equal to the amount of the payment. If a player pays life, the payment is subtracted from their life total; in other words, the player loses that much life. (Players can always pay 0 life.)

If you have 50 life, you could activate the ability, but state-based actions would remove you from the game for having 0 life before any of your effects could resolve.

However, if we assume you have 51 life, then the combo should work as you want it to. Aetherflux Reservoir deals damage, which implicates Worship as long as you have a creature (Darien). You would pay 50 life to activate the Reservoir's ability, leaving you at 1 life.

When the Reservoir's ability resolves, it deals damage to you that would reduce your life total to less than 1, so Worship replaces that with your life total going to 1 instead. It doesn't prevent the damage, so Darien's ability triggers.

When Darien's ability resolves, you create 50 tokens. Since they enter the battlefield, Anointer Priest triggers 50 times, and when each resolves, you gain life, bringing you back up to 51.

All this relies on your opponents not interfering. While they can't damage you to make you lose due to Worship, 1 life is still a precarious position with all those triggers that need to resolve before you're in a safe position again, and all it takes is an instant-speed spell that causes you to lose life, rather than take damage (like Geth's Verdict or Misery Charm).

Hey nice deck, very original idea! What do you think about putting in some Nameless Inversion s? It could synergize with Misery Charm , meaning potentially 3 more removals, if needed. Anyway, +1 from me.

Am I missing something with Misery Charm? There must be better if you're trying black burn - even the new M19 Sovereign's Thirst not on TO yet!. Or is that just a meta call against troublesome Clerics?

The Psychic Venom is an interesting choice, dodges removal better than a beater and probably gets used most turns for 2 damage, but it wants playing super early and not sure I'd want to take a turn off to cast it... Hmmm...

Maybe I'd prefer more e.g. Negate to force through burn against another counterspell or keep your (few) creatures from eating removal?

The first deck I ever built was actually a changeling super tribal deck. So I love your deck here! For some suggestions: I would take out Eye Gouge for Misery Charm. Same cost, same effect in this deck + additional options. Lovisa Coldeyes will give a nice boost and keyword. Seahunter, Moggcatcher, and Skyshroud Poacher all do the same thing, but I think at least one would be a good addition. Consider some of the other "Warchief" lords from Scourge. I see that you already have Mistform Warchief in here, but the others could be good too, especially if there are other non-changeling cards that you want to cast for cheaper in the deck. Didgeridoo to cheat your dudes in to play. Whelming Wave and Quest for Ula's Temple would be good. Kentaro, the Smiling Cat to use any color of mana to pay for creatures. Swarmyard is good but the card is a little expensive. Coalition Flag is just a funny card to use. Rashida Scalebane is a good assassin. And maybe even Borderland Behemoth for a big-ass finisher. If you want more tribal tidbits try either of these 2 Tribal Resources. Anyway, +1 from me, hope some of these suggestions were helpful!
