Iona's Blessing Discussion

SaltySpecula on Uril, the Monster of the Mists ( $50-ish Budget )

1 year ago

Thanks for the suggestions PookandPie. I did have Tilonalli's Crown and Madcap Skills in there previously, but found they didn't do enough. I will bring in Tilonali's crown though, as I find my playgroup likes to make tokens and so Uril needs more trample. And I've been considering Battle Mastery for a long time. I will be subbing out Iona's Blessing for it now though, the blessing hasn't been pulling it's weight in play. Scourge of the Nobilis however, has saved me several times from certain defeat.

Schrodingers_Cat on Tribal Kitty Cats

A couple of suggestions of cats you could add:Prowling Serpopard to deal with control decks; Aetherstream Leopard + Riparian Tiger to better exploit charge counters; Scrounging Bandar early game creature that can help out your bigger cats late game; Scythe Leopard early game creatures; Felidar Cub can serve as artifact removal or just attack; Felidar Sovereign also a potential win condition

Some instants you could add:Acrobatic Maneuver + Eerie Interlude + Long Road Home blink a cat to avoid damage or to re-trigger Regal Caracal; Appetite for the Unnatural + Decommission makes great enchantment or artifact removal; Commencement of Festivities + Encircling Fissure to stall longer; Gift of Strength + Highspire Infusion + Mighty Leap + Shed Weakness + Swell of Growth for buffing; Gideon's Reproach + Immolating Glare for potentially cheap removal; Life Goes On is really cheap life gain and can combo with Felidar Sovereign; Lifecrafter's Gift can combo with Metallic Mimic; Pulse of Murasa is a generally good card; Prepare / Fight + Tenacity for a smack down end game

Some sorceries:Appeal / Authority + Driven / Despair + Engineered Might + Larger Than Life + Ondu Rising + Overcome for more end game smack down; Approach of the Second Sun could be a win condition if you want, especially if you're stalling; Attune with Aether for lands and energy; Chaplain's Blessing for extra life and to combo with Felidar Sovereign; Collective Effort has a variety of good uses; Dubious Challenge would work well if you get more high cost creatures; Earthen Arms + Incremental Growth for a permanent buff; Mouth / Feed for a creature and card draws; Not Forgotten to either fetch from graveyard or remove from graveyard;

Finally, a few enchantments:Cartouche of Strength + Cartouche of Solidarity + Gryff's Boon + Conviction + Iona's Blessing major creature buffs, Call for Unity + Trial of Solidarity end game smack down, Always Watching make all your non token cats stronger; Authority of the Consuls to punish your opponent and limit his blockers; Bonds of Mortality potentially add to deal with hexproof and indestructible; Bound by Moonsilver removal that can move; Durable Handicraft + Oath of Ajani + Retreat to Kazandu adds more +1/+1 counters; Overwhelming Splendor + Sandwurm Convergence wind condition; Gift of Paradise extra life and mana;

Of course, this is far more cards then you could have in your deck, so you'll need to mix and match. I really recommend Felidar Sovereign and some heal cards like Life Goes On, as this makes a potentially very easy win con. I also think you should try to exploit getting +1/+1 counters more, since green and white are perfect for that. Lots of potential cards for cat decks, I wish you luck finding a good selection.

I like this deck. +1

You mention 'cheating the Exert' on Glorybringer, but I don't see any way to do so other than Arlinn Kord  Flip.

Perhaps some extra vigilance options from Cathar's Shield, Haunted Cloak, True-Faith Censer, Always Watching , or Iona's Blessing?

Lord.of.Innistrad Wow, i really liked Iona's Blessing and Entangler, because although Uril, the Miststalker can get pretty strong, i've been having some troubles when fighting decks that attacks with several creatures at once. This was the reason for having Dueling Grounds and Silent Arbiter. I think it would be even better with more auras with vigilance.

I must admit that i forgot to choose Holy Mantle, my fault. I'll try to find a place for it. hahah

About Indestructibility, i'd rather put Shielded by Faith for 3 cmc.

I've been running a Celestial Mantle in my deck, but the situation is that it has a expensive cmc and i must deal damage to my opponent to have it's effect. In a situation that i actually hit my opponent, it's almost a death sentence, so i don't think it runs well, although sounds amazing.

I used to run a Helm of the Gods, but always thought that there could be a better aura effect in its place.

Yeah, i'm looking for a Divine Reckoning aaand an Austere Command, probably in Chandra's Ignition's place.

Love this deck!! Looks strong already, but here are some Auras you may wanna consider!

My top 3 suggestions(that I know of) would probably be: Scourge of the Nobilis, Iona's Blessing, and Holy Mantle

Indestructibility and Hammerhand are good as well. Entangler would go well with Indestructibility, but I don't think removing anything for that would really be worth it. I think Iona's Blessing would be more useful.

Celestial Mantle is a little heavy in to white, but it might be worth it. Doubling your life total never hurts! I see you are already heavy in to white however, so you may not want to add this. Could make it unbalanced.

Helm of the Gods Is not an Aura but it goes very very well!

Divine Reckoning is a pretty good board wipe if you only have Uril and maybe a couple other random creatures out.

Again, great looking deck! Feel free to check any of my decks out :D Cheers!

You could probably benefit from more removal Journey to Nowhere, Oblivion Ring, Bring to Light, Darksteel Mutation and other things of that nature. Then maybe Ethereal Armor so you can get a little more bang for your buck. Sigarda's Aid makes all your auras more fun. Murder Investigation might be nice too since Zurgo would be such a target.

Might be a better fit to combine some of the auras keywords. Like Gift of Orzhova is like Mark of the Vampire and Angelic Gift rolled into one.

Brave the Sands might be a better option to Iona's Blessing.

I like the idea of having Assault Suit as well. Then you can pass around your commander, he'll almost always have indestructible, and let's say that the person who goes before you is annoying the table. Convince the other players to swing at the troublemaker :D

Finally, because it's a Mardu deck I have to suggest Crackling Doom.

There are far too many auras, equipments, and enchantments that do cool things tho, just off the top those are my suggestions. Good luck with finalizing, and playing!

Fetus_Crusher on DL Ojutai Voltron/Control EDH

I think you need some more ways of giving Ojutai vigilance. Triclopean Sight, Daybreak Coronet, Auramancer's Guise, Iona's Blessing, Marked by Honor, Vow of Duty are some good auras for that purpose. Sword of Vengeance is a really good equipment to give him vigilance. Sphere of Safety and Ghostly Prison are two more Propaganda type effects.
