Rules Q&A

Invasion of Alara

Battle — Siege

(As a Siege enters, choose an opponent to protect it. You and others can attack it. When it's defeated, exile it, the cast it transformed.)

When Invasion of Alara enters the battlefield, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile two nonland cards with converted mana cost/mana value 4 or less. You may cast one of those two cards without paying its mana cost. Put one of into your hand. Then put the other cards exiled this way on the bottom of your library in a random order.

jawz on GBr Rigging Alara

I'm having a lot more fun with this deck than I thought I would. Super janky though. Far too helpless in the first couple turns. But if it hits on turn 4 or 5 it's got real juice.

Tinkered with it a bit. Virtue of Persistence and Toxrill, the Corrosive feel a bit disappointing when I hit them from an Etali or a Rigging. They're weak as control cards too so I felt like swapping in Chaotic Transformation that is also a weak control card but is better at using the underwhelming Insect or Blood tokens from Old Rutstein (and hitting a Portal to Phyrexia from transforming a blood token is a much better control payoff than Toxrill). I almost want two Transformations in the deck but I have a nagging feeling that Gix's Command is important and I don't want to cut one of the other permanents for it.

Liliana of the Veil feels a bit better as a control card. Usually I don't want to discard a card unless I have a Portal in play, but if I have the option of transforming Lili into a Nissa later I can stomach passing without using her abilities for a while if I don't want the discard.

I'm also testing out one Anzrag, the Quake-Mole. It also enables the Rigging trigger on cheap mana, and it's a unique angle of threat that can get bonus Rigging tokens enabled. Olivia, Crimson Bride likes Anzrag too. Atraxa loves getting extra attacks. But even with all that if it's stuck on its own it doesn't have an ability that gets you unstuck like a Sheoldred or a Bramble Familiar or even a Shakedown Heavy can. Could easily be not good enough. The caves work really well. Playing the Invasion of Alara  Flip or hard casting the Atraxa is a bit hard but still consistent if you plan out your land plays carefully. Swapped out a couple Promising Vein for the Volatile Fault as the treasures are better for the deck than the basic land, and the extra ability to kill an opponent's man land is something that the deck might as well have as an option.

But overall this deck just wants to pull off a big Rigging play and then bully the opponent from there as hard as it can. If you need more than spot control to own the combats might as well concede.

It doesn’t fully match the criteria, but I would be interested in building a deck around Invasion of Theros  Flip.

Honestly, the concept of having a battle card be your commander is highly appealing to me. I’d love to see what a possible Invasion of Alara  Flip edh deck would look like.

Goblin Squabbler

Creature - Goblin

When Goblin Squabbler enters the battlefield, create four 1/1 red goblin creature tokens.

1/1

A nice common/uncommon to round out draft pools.

Create a card meant for a standard archetype. Bonus points if it's meant for the Invasion of Alara  Flip cascade combo.

Lorehold's Excavation

Enchantment

Whenever a permanent card enters the battlefield under your control or you cast a spell, if it was cast or entered the battlefield from your graveyard or exile, copy it. That copy gains haste if it was a creature.

The past packs a punch.

A commander card for sure, but Naya Exile is the best deck in standard...

Create another card that would help an archetype in standard. Bonus points if it's meant for Invasion of Alara  Flip cascade combo.

wallisface on Battle blinking

Ok i feel like the above comments are either poorly worded or extremely confused. So, here’s the situation:

  • you can “blink” any battle the same as any other permanent. In your scenario, you can 100% blink Invasion of Alara  Flip with an Oath of Teferi

  • when the Battle re-enters the battlefield, it’ll always enter on its front-facing side, regardless of what side it was on before. You’ll get to resolve whatever etb effects happen as normal, and can choose a defender of it (which can be a different player to the original defender)

Can I blink a Invasion of Alara  Flip that I cast and other player defens with a Oath of Teferi?

Good questions! Mana symbols in the text box affect a card's color identity, which determines which commander decks it can go in, but not it's color, so they don't add extra counters to Ramos. Cascade would certainly allow me to double up on Ramos triggers, which is part of the reason I included Invasion of Alara  Flip, which has a sort of pseudo-cascade effect. I might take something out to add in Maelstrom Nexus as well, to get even more value. I don't want to go too hard into cascade though, because I already have a deck built around it Yidris rides the lightning.
