Hound of the Farbogs

Creature — Zombie Dog

Delirium — Hound of the Farbogs has menace as long as there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard. (A creature with menace can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.)

I'm trying to optimize this deck.

My goal for this pauper deck is to force my opponent into a top-deck game early in the game by exiling cards in hand and removing creatures from the battlefield. Secondly, it attempts to overwhelm my opponent with zombies until I can bring out Hound of the Farbogs with the delirium effect active.

I am not confident in my deck building skills. I tend to net-deck and then customize... but I have not been finding any SOI pauper decks so I felt that I need to break away from my comfort zone and try my hand at it.

Keep in mind that I am only really buying standard legal cards while focusing mostly on SOI. I find it much easier to find cards that are newer at my LGS.

I would take out two Sleep Paralysis because they are extremely expensive and there are other cards that do better for cheaper. In their place I would put in two Compelling Deterrence. Its an instant speed spell which will almost always have them discarding a card. If they have no cards in hand they will have to discard the creature that you just returned to their hand. This will get rid of many hard to kill creatures in standard right now. Dead Weight and Containment Membrane are awesome, but I would suggest side boarding them because they don't have an answer for tokens like other zombies decks, spirits, or the Gideon, Ally of Zendikar + Nissa, Voice of Zendikar Combo. Every deck that runs blue in standard should also side board at least one Invasive Surgery in my opinion. you Also might consider Trail of Evidence but I don't think there as necessary as the other revisions since you aren't focusing on clues. Defiantly Consider Gisa's Bidding instead of Drownyard Explorers. I love the idea of getting Ghoulsteed onto the battlefield for three so one more of those and one less Hound of the Farbogs put in three more lands and take out the rest of the Hound of the Farbogs. You will want to pour mana into X spells and 20 lands is hardly enough to run a deck with an average converted mana cost of three (your deck is even more expensive than that). One more Corpse Churn and Macabre Waltz and take out the Dutiful Return. You have better stuff to do on turn four than revive one, two, and three drops from your graveyard. Side bored the To the Slaughter and put in another Diregraf Colossus you will need enchantments in your mainbored for delirium procks so I suggest taking out the three Rottenheart Ghoul and putting in two Vessel of Malignity and one Sinister Concoction Also take out one Rancid Rats to put in one more Sinister Concoction. Your sidebored has six cards right now

2x Dead Weight2x Containment Membrane1x To the Slaughter1x Invasive Surgery

This gives you 9 more slots in your sidebored that i highly suggest using. :)

Mainbored

 Creatures (20) Sorcery (7) Instant (6) Enchantment (4) Lands (23)

2x Crow of Dark Tidings 1x From Under the Floorboards 1x Catalog3x Diregraf Colossus 2x Macabre Waltz 1x Confirm Suspicions2x Drunau Corpse Trawler 1x Pore Over the Pages 2x Corpse Churn2x Ghoulsteed 1x Rise from the Tides 2x Compelling Deterrence 2x Lamplighter of Selhoff 1x Ugin's Insight 1x Rancid Rats 1x Gisa's Bidding 3x Walking Corpse 2x Stitched Mangler 2x Vessel of Malignity 3x Choked Estuary 2x Sinister Concoction 9x Islands 11x swamps

I think you will rock your FNM with these revisions, and i wish you good luck.

Hound of the Farbogs is a 5/3 that could have menace. That seems like it could be really scary to me, as Menace is kind of a killer in limited.

I feel like a lot of these "good if you can get delirium" statements need to be quantified. With all the discard, self mill and sacrifice options I wonder how hard delirium will actually be to get.

Hey what's up people!!! People have been liking these limited set reviews so I guess I'll make another one. Leave a comment below if you want me to do a review for red!!!

WHITE: http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/standard/soi-set-review-white/Blue: http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/standard/soi-set-review-blue/Black: http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/limited/soi-set-review-black/Red: http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/limited/soi-set-review-red/edit/

Accursed Witch  Flip THIS IS OP!!! First of all it allows you to get a trade in. The fact that it costs less to target doesn't really matter. I mean are you really going to spend your best removal on a 4/2? When this thing dies it's going to turn into a drain spell reduction enchantment. This is card is amazing because it allows you to swing in for 4 or get a great enchantment.

Elusive Tormentor  Flip Limited bomb. Works great with madness and can let you end a game in quick fashion.

Heir of Falkenrath  Flip This card is great too. It can turn on madness and become a 3/2 with flying for 2. At a rate of 3/2 with flying for 2 this card is amazing.

Kindly Stranger  Flip Another great card. A 3 mana 2/3 is just fine, but it can turn into a removal spell if you have delirium.

Alms of the Vein Don't play this. Unless you're literally playing mono red in limited then don't play it. It doesn't really do anything but drain for 3.

Asylum Visitor This is another great card. A 2 mana 3/1 with evasion is good. The fact that it lets you draw extra is just a bonus.

Behind the Scenes This isn't really a playable card. While your opponent plays a three drop you play this. This loses you too much tempo for semi-evasion.

Behold the Beyond Is hard to evaluate. It all depends on how fast the format is. If the format is slow then this has potential. It turns on madness and it allows for you to tutor for your best three cards. This card's strength depends on the format speed.

Biting Rain Huh.... Why do we always have 4 mana -2/-2 variants in each set? As always this is a reasonable sideboard card, but I don't see it being maindeckable.

Call the Bloodline This is a good card. It loses you some tempo, but it allows you to get back into the game with lifelink. It allows for good madness combos as well.

Creeping Dread Don't play this. It won't work most of the time and it doesn't do anything as a topdeck when both players are hellbent.

Crow of Dark Tidings Nice card. Fuels delirium and it also is a 3 mana 2/1 with flying.

Dead Weight THIS CARD IS REALLY GOOD. It acts as early removal to kill early threats. It also isn't terrible late game because it can allow -/- to a bigger creature.

Diregraf Colossus Is a good build around card. If this card sticks and you can start slamming zombies onto the battlefield... Then you win. This is a good card and should be played.

Ever After Good card. You're most likely going to have a few creatures in your graveyard by turn 6. Getting two creatures back for 6 mana is always a good deal.

Farbog Revenant Hmm... Some people say this card is good and others say it's bad. I see this as a solid playable. It has some evasion and it can bring you back into the game with lifelink.

From Under the Floorboards It's MADNESS how good this card is. It has soo much value. You can flood the board and gain tons of life. I feel like this will see play in standard if discard outlets are good enough.

Ghoulcaller's Accomplice Is value. You get a 2 mana 2/2 which is fine, but you also get another 2/2 if you exile it from your graveyard. Legitimate playable.

Ghoulsteed This is a fine card. 5 mana 4/4's are just ok. It comes back which makes it a bit better than average.

Gisa's Bidding Great card. It allows you to get a board state. The fact that it has madness, makes it better.

Grotesque Mutation This is a standard playable card. It's a good combat trick that allows you to gain some life if you play it on a larger creature.

Hound of the Farbogs Bad card. Don't play it. Not good. I could MAYBE see it as a 23 card.

Indulgent Aristocrat Reminds me of Sludge Crawler from BFZ. Should be great in a vampire themed deck and it's even fine on its own.

Liliana's Indignation Not worth playing. You're not going to get enough creatures to make this worth it.

Macrabe Waltz This card is very good now. It allows you to get madness. In this set this card gets even better.

Markov Dreadknight This thing is a bomb. You can threaten to pump it, and if they don't deal with it... You just straight up win the game.

Merciless Resolve A land/creature version of altars reap. This is playable, but not great. Delirium is in this set, making this card better.

Mindwrack Demon This card is kinda bad in limited. If you don't hit delirium then you're going to be killed VERY fast. This is good in a graveyard based deck, but without it.... Playing this card is a bit of a risk, but it comes with a huge payoff.

Morkut Necropod A 6 mana 7/7 menace? INSANE!!! The drawback is minimal when you're hitting face for 7.

Murderous Compulsion Removal is good. This is good.

Olivia's Bloodsworn A 2 mana 2/1 with flying is good. The fact that it can't block doesn't matter because if you're playing this then you're most liking just going to be attacking anyway.

Pale Rider of Trostad This card seems every good to me. It turns on madness and is still a fine card even if it doesn't.

Pick the Brain Bad don't play it.

Rancid Rats All of the deathtouch rats are SUPER annoying to play against. This is good too. It screws up combat and is just value.

Relentless Dead Limited bomb. It will keep coming back and creating problems for your opponent.

Rottenheart Ghoul This card is just so so. It doesn't do much, but be careful when choosing which player discards.

Sanitarium Skeleton This seems a bit below average. Most likely a 23 card type of thing. It can be an infinite chump blocker, which is REALLY annoying, but not much else than that.

Shamble Back Playing this in a graveyard themed deck seems ok, but just playing it in any deck seems a bit risky. If you don't have a target for it it's bad. If you do have a creature in your graveyard then it's good. Just depends.

Sinister Concoction Eh good removal, triggers madness, fuels delirium, and is just value. Good card and good removal.

Stallion of Ashmouth Mediocre playable. A 4 mana 3/3 is just eh. If you can get delirium it become a lot better.

Stromkirk Mentor This is a bad card unless you can get the +1/+1 counter every time. If you can it's fine.

Throttle Ok removal. Removal is good. Play this.

To the Slaughter This is fine. Removal is good.

Tooth Collector This thing is really good. If you can get delirium going you can really take over a game by controlling combat and killing spirits.

Triskaidekaphobia ummmmmm.... don't play it?

Twins of Maurer Estate Good for madness, not so good if you don't. Seems fine in most decks.

Vampire Noble 3 Mana 3/2? Bad filler. Wouldn't play most of the time unless you're desperate or you have lots of vampire synergy.

Vessel of Malignity Meh. Just seems fine. Nice that it exiles instead of discard.
