DreadKhan on Need help ruining a combo players day

Thorn of Amethyst, Glowrider, Sphere of Resistance, Vryn Wingmare, and Eidolon of Rhetoric all exist, but I'm guessing they didn't make the cut?

Retribution of the Meek might be a reasonable wipe with so many smaller creatures, ditto Elspeth, Sun's Champion. If a wipe is one sided it's not just resetting the board, not sure how many of these you're willing to run. Elspeth makes a small army, much better at blocking than the Samurai from Wanderer fwiw, but Wanderer is really strong too. Smothering Tithe is great with Stasis out, Brago, King Eternal might be fun too. If people are running obnoxious stuff, you could run Enlightened Tutor to find your Stasis/Tithe cards as needed, Muddle the Mixture can find both Stasis or Brave the Sands, while also being a counterspell. If you like Stasis, you could also try Static Orb, Meekstone, Crackdown or even Winter Orb/Rising Waters, not sure how hostile you want to be but Stasis is harsher than these. How often do you cast Approach of the Second Sun in here? I ask because there are a lot of tax effects, but if it's not trouble have you thought about running some tutors to find it? The best ones I can think of are Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor, and Solve the Equation, they can also find other cards as needed, handy if you need removal, a wipe or a counter.

As for alternatives that can do similar things, you might look at either Zur the Enchanter or Hinata, Dawn-Crowned as alternatives that offer more offensive punch while still offering a solid route to shutting the table down. Zur can dig out enchantments like Rule of Law, Stasis (and Black Market Connections) and various ways to fairly quickly win the game, all while being able to hold up lots of mana for interaction, be it counters or removal. Hinata is another tax effect, but you get access to Red as well, and Red has some interesting additions to the Stax department, you'd definitely want Grand Arbiter in your Hinata deck, and you'd run most of the same cards, but you also have the option of running a bunch of cards that care about Hinata's discount, Hinata makes interaction better, especially if it has multiple targets, the annoying thing for both is that they're much harder to cast than Grand Arbiter, so you'd have to raise your budget to have the same consistency. The big problem with Zur is protecting him. If there are literally specific players you know are a problem you can run either Baral, Chief of Compliance or Talrand, Sky Summoner, Baral is better at playing 'Counter Everything' but Talrand can be just offensively good vs a specific player since he also is generating evasive bodies while interacting with that player's win attempts. The nice thing about he mono-Blue approach is you can just brutalize a player or two while letting the others play a smaller (but more normal) game.

Oh, if those players run specific colours (and nobody else likes them as much) there are old school colour hosers, cards like Karma can make life extremely hard. They exist for all colours, and they were so staggeringly unpopular that the developer stopped printing cards like it.

Rhadamanthus on How would crackle with power …

You can use double square brackets around a card's name to create a reference link. It's the best way to make sure everyone understands what's going on in your question: Crackle with Power, Narset, Enlightened Exile, Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

Unfortunately this doesn't work. If a spell has X in its cost but you cast it for an alternative cost that doesn't include X ("without paying its mana cost" is a special kind of alternative cost) then the only legal choice for X is zero. In your example you won't be able to choose any targets for Crackle with Power.

Thank you KBK7101! Honestly I'm kind of surprised with how popular Isshin became in the past year. He's already in or near the top 10 commanders in EDHREC. A year ago I thought that Satoru Umezawa or Hinata, Dawn-Crowned would have been the most popular commanders from Neon Dynasty.

I try to post updates when I feel they're relevant enough or worth posting lol. I printed out a copy of Otharri to try to play-test in the games I played last weekend, but sadly I didn't get the chance to play it irl then. I did like Skyhunter Strike Force and Mondrak, Glory Dominus when I played them in that game.

In solo play-testing I've mostly liked Otharri so far. I like that it has Haste baked in, so it is a bit speedier for a 5 drop. Although it has the baked in self-recursion, I'm not sure how often that will be relevant or used. If it manages to stick around or come back, then its token production potential will continue to scale up each swing with new Experience counters. I like that Otharri has flying, as I've wanted a little more "verticality" for attacking and defense.

I feel like the 5-drop and 6-drop creature slots are ones I've experimented with the most. I've also tested stuff like Balor, Death Tyrant, Karlach, Fury of Avernus, Ilharg, the Raze-Boar, and Adriana, Captain of the Guard at various points as 5-drop options.

((Cathars' Crusade or First Day of Class or Celebrity Fencer or Hamletback Goliath)) + ((Elemental Mastery or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker or Splinter Twin or Krenko, Mob Boss or Thraben Doomsayer)) + Intruder Alarm goes infinite for tokens and +1/+1 counters. There's no particular synergy with Hinata, Dawn-Crowned, though.

Im building a deck with Hinata, Dawn-Crowned and i need some good cards that can basicly put a lot of counters on a creature for very low cost with hinata's ability. and i want a card that can repeat that ability for a certain mana cost. if i have those cards then i have a very overpowerd deck. do you guys have some suggestions?

Marshal's Anthem isn't a good example because the spell, itself doesn't have any targets. It's the "enters the battlefield" triggered ability that has targets. Let's use Comet Storm instead.

Hinata, Dawn-Crowned doesn't reduce kicker costs, but it does work with kicker cards like this because it reduces the total cost to cast the spell. The total cost to cast a spell is the base mana cost (or an alternative cost that's replacing the mana cost), plus any mandatory or optional additional costs (kicker is an optional additional cost), plus any cost-increasing effects (Sphere of Resistance, etc.), minus any cost-reducing effects (Hinata, etc.), and then applying effects that set it to a specific amount (right now Trinisphere is the only effect that does this).

So let's say you cast Comet Storm with X=4 and kicked 3 times because you want to have 4 targets. The total cost is then (base) + (kicker) - (Hinata) =

Just to make sure we're on the same page: yes, Hinata, Dawn-Crowned works great with Strive spells as long as they have a generic component in the cost. It can't reduce the cost of Kiora's Dismissal or Blinding Flare, but will work fine with something like Hour of Need, Phalanx Formation, etc.

Appreciated! Another reason I was curious about the ruling is regarding the interaction with Hinata, Dawn-Crowned, and whether Hinata might reduce the cost of strive spells on a per target basis.
