Haazda Shield Mate

Creature — Human Soldier

At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Haazda Shield Mate unless you pay (White)(White).

(White): The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage.

Dust Bowl and Flagstones of Trokair

Recruiter of the Guard is worthy of a spot.

Sanctum Prelate?

Peacekeeper is awesome with Sun Titan. Frontline Medic is more narrow but definetly strong depending on meta. Haazda Shield Mate might have some potential alongside the Titan.

Maybe Orim's Chant for that Isochron Scepter. Tithe is funky in mono white and fits under it as well.

I think you will need the boots and Greaves for your commander and Haazda Shield Mate and other type creatures

@griffstick: I feel like Angelic Renewal has too much value here, especially if I can have it out with Felidar Sovereign. I did some rearranging (In: Haazda Shield Mate, Marshal's Anthem, Fountain Watch, manlands for lifegain triggers and the three you mentioned...Out: Mimic Vat, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Vassal's Duty, Moonlit Wake and Dawn to Dusk). Let me know what you think.

Daedalus19876: In my defense, my response was at night, and I don't do as well because I'd be tired. So, my apologies to both you and zandl.

I overlooked Haazda Shield Mate's ability to stop voltron. I'll try to slip him in. That said, voltron isn't common in my area.

Pulsemage Advocate is a card I'm still feeling a bit edgy on. In my experience, there's always something in an opponent's graveyard. So it becomes a case of choosing a lesser of several evils.

Darien, King of Kjeldor is another card I'll attempt to slip in.

As for the playtests, I agree that recursion is a weakness. I took note of it very early on and is something I hope to address quickly. Perhaps the Advocate isn't so bad after all, though I need more options. I'm generally wary of having much of a board presence. It's kind of why an old build of Captain Sisay flopped. I created the deck a while back and it sucked because I never did much. So, I present this question: How could I make the deck run faster?

Well, alright. I'll consider adding more stuff in there that ramps but the question is how much? Two is easy enough (Karametra and the Signet) but any more than that? I can't exactly add a Mana Crypt (It's in my main deck).

With all due respect, your responses to my comment don't make full sense to me either. Several of your points are 100% valid (particularly Aegis of the Gods; I forgot that your commander gives YOU hexproof), but you dismiss several suggestions out of hand (imho).

Haazda Shield Mate gives protection from Voltron while also being protected by your commander; Pulsemage Advocate often returns 3 useless things to an opponent in return for a huge creature; Avenger en-Dal may not be as good as StP or PtE, but he's reusable and a huge deterrent; Darien, King of Kjeldor creates an army whenever you're hit (thus warding off attacks, not to mention that he neatly curves after your commander).

And these are all humans, so their effects are hard to remove whenever you have your commander. Of course, they might be better or worse depending on meta - but if you're playing in a competitive meta where they're irrelevant (full of control or combo), then your deck needs serious adjustment to match them.

I playtested it a few times, and never had much board presence until T7-8 (plus little recovery from wraths). Too slow for my local meta, at least, but maybe I just got bad hands. Or maybe I'm playing it wrong: it's not my deck, after all :)

I don't play the Signets for acceleration; I play them for early color-fixing. Without access to green, you have no way to get the lands you need or cast your ramp spells. You also don't have THAT much land-ramp: I count six cards in the deck that are capable of early ramp, and two are relatively conditional. Karametra doesn't seem good on paper, but in a deck with 37 creatures (most of them cheap), she'd easily prove her worth shrug

Still, I'm always happy to see a tribal humans deck. They're a tragically underused crowd.

Daedalus19876:

Aegis of the Gods: Sigarda makes us have Hexproof, so it's pointless (especially since we're in green).

Avenger en-Dal: I'd sooner have Swords or Path because Avenger needs to wait a turn, discard a card, pay 3 mana, and a creature must attack.

Captain Sisay: She is a card I was considering in the first place.

Darien, King of Kjeldor: I'd sooner have him in the Command Zone.

Haazda Shield Mate: Too White-intensive and pointless with Sigarda at the helm.

Knight of the Reliquary: Consistency is something I tend to avoid. Land ramp is ok but Knight ensures I grab the same non-basics every game. Basics are fine as far as I'm concerned.

Knight of the White Orchid: He was in the deck...until I remembered that I was in green, which is the best color to ramp.

The Maguses: Not a fan of them here. If I was forced to choose, I would take Disk or Library but even then their effects are not worth it here.

Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker: I'll put her under consideration.

Pulsemage Advocate: I'm not a fan of helping others. Screw politics, I do damage.

Children of Korlis: I want to like this card but I realize I'm in Magical Christmas Land. I'll return to this when its relevant.

Ranger of Eos: Don't have the 1-drops to make it worthwhile.

Serra Ascendant: She's good, yes, but when my life drops below 30, she's weak. That said, I do have ways to buff her up. We'll see.

Serene Master: I'll pass.

Karametra, God of Harvests: No thanks. I got enough ramp as it is, especially with Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Somberwald Sage. Not forgetting to mention the Maybeboard has other ways to ramp.

Mirari's Wake: I'm sure you read the update, no?

I shy away from non-land tutors but I'l consider Eladamri's Call.

Selesnya Signet: We're in green. The only artifact ramp we really need is Sol Ring.

Hmmm. Some good utility humans that didn't make it onto this list are Aegis of the Gods, Avenger en-Dal, Captain Sisay, Darien, King of Kjeldor, Haazda Shield Mate, Knight of the Reliquary, Knight of the White Orchid, the Maguses, Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker, Pulsemage Advocate, Children of Korlis, Ranger of Eos, Serra Ascendant, Serene Master,

Karametra, God of Harvests isn't a human, but she certainly allows some explosive turns. Same with Mirari's Wake. For tutoring, to create more consistency, Eladamri's Call, Congregation at Dawn, Worldly Tutor, and Altar of Bone are helpful.

And finally, for mana acceleration, I'd always consider Selesnya Signet.

What about a Jace's Archivist? To go and get the draw on. Or perhaps a Magus of the Jar, it will trigger sphinx for 7 times. I don't know if you want a faster mill or a slower one. There is also Kami of False Hope or Haazda Shield Mate. If you don't want a modern deck there is a Cho-Arrim Alchemist or Hedron-Field Purists.

Also it might be fun to run a Swans of Bryn Argoll.
