Greatbow Doyen

Creature — Elf Archer

Other Archer creatures you control get +1/+1.

Whenever an Archer you control deals damage to a creature, that Archer deals that much damage to that creature's controller.

TypicalTimmy has gotten or granted vigilance as far back as 1994 and 1999, with Rabid Wombat and Stamina. It's been getting vigilance regularly since about 2015. haste is a little less common, but still visible also since 2015. Both those abilities are secondary in green, so they'll show up once in a while.

"Extended damage" (not sure what else to call it) has a tiny little precedent in Greatbow Doyen, and Kosei, Penitent Warlord and Hydra Omnivore also exist now, so this might be tertiary in in the future.

Of course, Questing Beast is still a mess, and the "can't be prevented" clause is still out of nowhere. It absolutely would have been fairer and more sensical as Naya or Gruul.

My best guess is that Throne of Eldraine wanted to be a mono-color set, with abilities like Adamant, and like you said, they needed a mythic slot filler.

Hmmm, I'm not much into the Secret Lair cards, but looking through, I'm actually considering Halana and Alena, Partners. They're not archers, but could be possible. I lean toward red because I like the interplay between Greatbow Doyen and Falkenrath Exterminator. I'd love to go Naya, but still looking for a better commander or partner pair. There's Hallar, the Firefletcher, but she wants kicked spells, not archer tribal.

passimo Yes! I was strangely excited to meet my opposite - it feels very validating somehow. I do definitely prefer more creature-based strategies, although mine feel more mid-range-ish because I tend to play multiplayer casual. I do play other strategies, but have to reach into other colors for them. I recently built this lifegain/non-combat damage deck by going . Poke, poke, poke - Budget Casual (there is a tiny bit of 5-color in the deck, but only because I had those cards and just wanted to toss them in.) The other interesting deck I've built that uses indirect damage is actually : Swift but Deadly - Ultrabudget $20 Archer Tribal. It uses Falkenrath Exterminator , Jagged-Scar Archers , et al to deal damage to creatures and Greatbow Doyen to deal damage to their controllers at the same time. Still creature-based, but not aggro or beatdown. It's very vulnerable to board-wipe, but those are pretty uncommon in my playgroup, and I try to keep the power level a bit low on my decks so I don't squish everyone (I play against beginners and teens, as well as more experienced players, and we all live in a lower income rural area. I intentionally build some fragility in. I could be more ruthless if I wanted to, but why when we're just playing for fun on Sunday evening? Plus I keep my decks super budget. I don't have tons of $$ to drop, nor do my friends.) So there's space to build there, but I see where you're coming from. Black is definitely more adept there with direct loss of life and the antithesis of what I usually prefer to play. So cheers to you and your zombie army of death! We salute you from across the field.

I'd love classes commanders, especially Archers. Greatbow Doyen has a perfect ability - but it's not legendary and only allows green. Hallar, the Firefletcher gets you 2 colors, but cares about kicked spells and not at all about archers. I'd love to see something on flavor.

As mentioned earlier, a Phoenix commander would be fantastic. I've also really wanted to do Archon Tribal. I'd also love to see some commander support for energy counters (not a tribe, but kinda?).

Hey, had completely the same idea when I was looking for the most interesting tribal decks. There are a few really interesting lords for unsupported tribes I wanted to stitch together. Definitely take a look at Greatbow Doyen. There are some other interesting/unique effects for some of these.

Legendxp,
I stumbled across Hand of the Praetors the other day, and next thing you know I'm looking at the Lord page at gamepedia. From there, here's a bunch more for your consideration:

Finally, I'm not sure how to classify these, but they're all color related: Angel of Jubilation, Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Hall of Triumph, Knight of New Alara

I think that this can be a devastating SP and MP deck.

Greatbow Doyen and Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile are all-stars. Throw Trophy Hunter in there and you've got intense synergy. Scattershot Archer deals with flyers. Crossbow Infantry is great, if you pair him with Armadillo Cloak, Felidar Umbra, or Battle Mastery.

However, if you splash black, things get mean. You've got Phyresis, Sultai Runemark, and Aspect of Gorgon.

Archers synergize with any creature that is massive, but creates tokens for opponents, like Hunted Troll.

With some ramp, like Caravan Vigil and Rampant Growth, you can accelerate.

You'll need protection, so Crib Swap is an easy check, because you can easily deal with the 1/1. Same with Afterlife or Beast Within. Selesnya Charm is also good because of the options it provides. If you splash black, there's many more options available.

Pulse of Murasa is also good, but I wouldn't put too many in.

first wave of cuts: Unbridled Growth does literally nothing in mono-green, Prophetic Prism same reason, Karametra's Favor don't need. also anything that is giving you energy you dont need it. unless you have some pay off for energy there is no point in running those

things to add (this is a long list so obviously just pick things up as you can. also not all of this will fit in but this is all good stuff):Arbor Elf, Allosaurus Rider, Birchlore Rangers, Bow of Nylea, Cultivate, Devoted Druid, Drove of Elves, Druid of the Cowl, Eladamri, Lord of Leaves, Elvish Archdruid, Elvish Champion, Elvish Harbinger, Elvish Mystic, Elvish Promenade, Elvish Vanguard, Everglove Courier, Explosive Vegetation, Ezuri, Renegade Leader, Fyndhorn Elder, Gaea's Herald, Gladehart Cavalry, Glissa Sunseeker, Greatbow Doyen, Green Sun's Zenith, Greenweaver Druid, Gyre Sage, Heritage Druid, Harmonize, Hunting Triad, Immaculate Magistrate, Imperious Perfect, Joraga Treespeaker, Joraga Warcaller, Llanowar Elves, Llanowar Mentor, Lys Alana Bowmaster, Lys Alana Huntmaster, Masked Admirers, Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip, Nissa's Pilgrimage, Norwood Priestess, Nullmage Shepherd, Nylea, God of the Hunt, Oran-Rief, the Vastwood, Priest of Titania, Realm Seekers, Reclamation Sage, Rishkar, Peema Renegade, Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary, Tajuru Preserver, Talara's Battalion, terrastodon, Thornweald Archer, Titania's Chosen, Viridian Shaman, Wellwisher, Wildslayer Elves, Winnower Patrol, Wirewood Elf, Wren's Run Packmaster, Yeva, Nature's Herald

(takes giant breath)

yeah.. its a lot of stuff. I got a little carried away.. also this is not a budgeted list of suggestions. you will need some of the $3-10 cards to make elves a serious threat.
