Target opponent creates two black 1/1 rat creature tokens. Then, choose one:

Extermination Quest - Venture into the dungeon. Up to two creatures you control fight up to two creatures you do not control. Create a treasure token.

Set Traps - Create a food token, then search your library for cards named Springjaw Trap, Explosive Apparatus, and/or Trip Noose, put them onto the battlefield, and shuffle.


Frequent trope in D&D... I may have gone overboard with the text to try to make it too accurate. But the payoff might be big enough to be playable... the second mode makes it useful for golgari artifact synergy decks, and the first mode is great for removal, ramp, and venture. The real downside about the second mode is, of course, including those cards in your deck.

You should build a full sideboard of 1-off artifacts if you plan to use Karn, the Great Creator and you should sub out some shocks and swamps to play 4 Interplanar Beacon as the only black you run are planeswalkers. A list of sideboard artifacts are as follows Arcane Encyclopedia – card draw for control, Explosive Apparatus – Bad removal, Navigator's Compass – life gain, Damping Sphere – Anti Izzet phoenix, Fountain of Renewal – Burn, Sorcerous Spyglass – Walkers, Helm of the Host – maybe ok? Magistrate's Scepter – control beater, Meteor Golem – good but expensive removal, Orazca Relic – versatile, Sentinel Totem – graveyard hate, Silent Gravestone – graveyard hate, Skyscanner – replaceable blocker, The Immortal Sun – win-con, Transmogrifying Wand – repeatable removal, Treasure Map  Flip card advantage. FSims81 That is a very interesting Idea. I do like scriptures in here but there is a bit of a flaw. IF it comes out late game im only saving one piece of a critical balance of field objects. IE i'll get to keep a zahid or a sai but not both. So it can hurt me a little too also its a balance of 4 drops. I dont wanna stack too hard on the 4 drop range. Trying to find the right balance between scriptures and antiquities war vs vraska's. Also looking at trying out the 2 Explosive Apparatus as another cheap artifact option that could cause some late game extra damage

After looking at your suggestions I'm thinking of removing the mill focused stuff Diligent Excavator, Millstone, Psychic Corrosion, the Fountain of Renewal and 2 Unwind. In their place I added 2 Blink of an Eye, 2 Explosive Apparatus, 2 Voltaic Servant, and 2 Artificer's Assistant.

My thought being the 2 Assistants are 1 to cast flyers I can pop turn one and Scry. Apparatus, and BoaE help control the board. Lastly Servant replaces Excavator as a 2 to cast 1/3 but I can untap and artifact which adds blockers.

My suggestions:

If you want to speed up the deck and potentially do something along the lines of Reckless Fireweaver, Cabal Paladin hits for two and does it on cast of historic spells which hits sagas and legendaries of which you have multiple in the deck.

Potentially less impactful than I would like it to be, but still a decent artifact for miscellaneous use: Explosive Apparatus can be used for shocking a creature, or for extra face damage. Also a 1 CMC artifact is nice when you know that The Antiquities War will go off next turn.

For reasons I don’t think I need to go into: Ornithopter.

I know it’s a fringe card but Metalwork Colossus can be nice if you can build a board state and pair it with itself and a Sai, Master Thopterist for an infinite sac/ETB combo, can be aided by Cabal Paladin.

Potentially pretty good as a beater and a way to turn those artifacts into food to beef up a win condition, Defiant Salvager can double as a sacrifice outlet for any artifact with a dies ability, like Servo Schematic.

Explosive Apparatus would also be a great card to swing 2 damage somewhere and pump Atog due to the trigger ability
