The Challenge that I propose is this: pick a plane, then design a featured Commander of a Legend from the plane. The twist is that the Commander needs to be at least two colors and be designed as a Planeswalker that can be played as Commander. Describe the idea for the deck, how the Commander's Spark triggered, and a general idea of cards you might include as part of the deck if you were designing it for sale. For instance:

Deck name: Saving Grace Plane: Innistrad Commander: Sigarda, Heron of Light (3)(G)(W) Sigarda, Heron of Light can be your Commander. [+2] Put a 1/1 Human token with hexproof into play under your control. [-2] Discard a creature card from your hand. Put a 4/4 Angel token with flying and hexproof into play under your control. [-8] You gain an emblem with, "Creatures you control have lifelink and hexproof. Creatures you control may not be sacrificed. [4]

Spark: After the confrontation with the fused, corrupted Bruna and Gisela, after the 'victory' of the Gatewatch, Sigarda's heart longed for answers, for how to help heal her world. Her heart's cry pulled her out of her world to another, before pulling her back home, where she found Arlinn Kord waiting to speak with her. Realizing now the existence of other worlds, Sigarda has determined to find a way to keep the humans of her ravaged world safe from both internal threats and threats from other planes.

Deck concept: Angels, Humans and Spirits working together to protect and support each other.

Sample cards: Briarbridge Patrol, Cathedral Sanctifier, Champion of Lambholt, Champion of the Parish, Devout Chaplain, Bygone Bishop, Dearly Departed, Drogskol Shieldmate, Angel of Glory's Rise, Angel of Jubilation, Herald of War, Haunted Cloak, Avacyn's Collar, Inquisitor's Flail

Welcome to Magic. I was in your shoes when Shadows Over Innistrad came out. I built up spirits too and it is a blast to play. Unfortunately they rotate out of standard when Ixalon releases. A good standard list can be found , with a decklist under the video description. In that decklist, Metallic Mimic is a bit pricey, so substituting Fog Walker isn't a bad idea. Definitely go with 4 Nebelgast Herald and 2-4 Selfless Spirit depending on budget, taking out some Uninvited Geist  Flip and Drogskol Shieldmate.

The good news is that there are several good builds for Blue/White spirits in the Modern format. You can keep the lands you use in standard and upgrade as you feel. Glacial Fortress should be in Ixalon, so it will be pretty cheap. It plays well with Prairie Stream or Irrigated Farmland for good mana on turn 2. Hallowed Fountain would be the upgrade after that replacing basics. Eventually getting fetchlands to replace the Prairie Stream can be a stretch goal as your interest in the game increases.

For main deck alterations to fit modern on a budget, a list like this should suit your play style well:

Creatures (24)4x Mausoleum Wanderer4x Rattlechains4x Selfless Spirit4x Spell Queller4x Drogskol Captain4x Nebelgast Herald

Instants (14)4x Mana Leak4x Path to Exile4x Mana Tithe2x essence flux

Lands (22) including 1-2 Moorland Haunt and 1 Ghost Quarter

Selfless Spirit would be good to help protect your creatures. Also, you're not taking full advantage of the abilities of cards like Haunted Dead.

I have a zombie deck that may give you some ideas: U/B Zombies with no funny deck name

As far as the spirits go, the best thing about spirits is getting to flash them in! It's blue, whgich doesn't fit your colors, I know, but cards like Rattlechains that give all spirits flash is awesome! In the colors you have, Drogskol Shieldmate is the only one with flash.

Good luck with the deck-- looks like it'll be fun to play!

BaronBrademon, So the main interaction between Selfless Spirit and Archangel Avacyn  Flip is this:

Have Avacyn and Selfless spirit on the battlefield. At the end of my untap step or in response to Avacyn's trigger I will sac my spirit, giving my creatures indestructibility for the rest of my turn and cause Avacyn to flip.

Now about toughness. In FNM and other times I've played I'm never swinging into creatures as the opponent will not have any with flying (unless I allow it) so in combat toughness is never an issue, the only times where it is a liability is when I play against a resolved Liliana, the Last Hope, but even then I can go wide and kill it. Because of this I would not want to put in Drogskol Shieldmate and Always Watching is better.

Hi, I am a returning player, only really started playing again a few months ago. I am just curious as to how Archangel Avacyn  Flip Doesn't completely wipe your board, are you able to sacrifice a Selfless Spirit before she flips?

In the current round of testing, have you found that the spirits lack toughness? I have recently had great success with an Odric, Lunarch Marshal deck, though find when against aggro decks, I do not have the toughness to stop the damage. Have you considered including the Drogskol Shieldmate?

Love the work so far and cannot wait to test a version of this deck.
