Deftblade Elite Discussion

I highly suggest investing a little more into your mana base. Temple Garden is good to fetch out with your Windswept Heath (as it's a dual), along with your Canopy Vista . Scattered Groves is another land to consider here, along with Savannah , if you want to blow $150 on a marginal improvement. Off-color fetches are similar; they are effectively duals as they allow you to fetch your Canopy Vista and friends. If you choose to run fewer fetches, Suppression Field can be plain brutal against a lot of decks.

I see you're running a few dorks; I advise adding a few more, as they're one of the best aspects of your colors. Arbor Elf and Llanowar Elves would be good additions. If you want more one-mana ramp spells, Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth are options that also act synergistically with Arbor Elf . Priest of Titania , Shaman of Forgotten Ways and Somberwald Sage can be great too.

Swords to Plowshares is better than Path to Exile . In EDH, giving an opponent five to ten life is unfortunate, but not terribly bad; ramping an opponent, on the other hand, can be very dangerous. I advise against spells that can help speed up your opponents.

Along that vein, slowing your opponents down is a good idea. Vryn Wingmare , Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Glowrider are all good tax effects identical to Thorn of Amethyst that also can come in for damage. Gaddock Teeg is great for holding off board-wipes, as Damnation , Wrath of God and Supreme Verdict are all uncastable while he's on the field. Kataki, War's Wage is a powerhouse as well.

Depending on your meta, you may have a lot of options for color-specific interactions. Carpet of Flowers is excellent if your meta is really blue, and Choke is a pretty mean card with essentially the opposite effect.

In green, you might way to consider adding a land-recursion package if you have access to it. Ramunap Excavator is good for bringing back your fetch land(s), and thereby guarantees land drops. Exploration is an excellent card, if you're willing to spend $25 to get ahold of it, that accelerates you like crazy from turn one. Sticking a Wasteland or Strip Mine into the mix is pretty spicy too.

In creature-heavy decks, Slate of Ancestry is a powerful card-draw engine.

Natural Order is busted in Legacy Elves; it'd also be busted here. Grabbing Craterhoof Behemoth for four mana tends to end games fast, or at least put your opponents into the five to ten life range. Similarly, but significantly worse, Green Sun's Zenith , Finale of Devastation and Chord of Calling can all end games. Worth noting is that if you include Dryad Arbor in your deck, you can grab it with GSZ on turn one for one mana. Along the lines of finishers, Overwhelming Stampede is good, but I would run Triumph of the Hordes first. Be weary, as people can be salty about losing to infect in EDH.

If you choose to run some equipment in your deck, Stoneforge Mystic is good. It is approaching $40, but as you already run Sylvan Library I figured I'd mention it. I don't advise running more than two or MAYBE three equipments in your final list, and Stoneforge both fetches then and provides a body to carry them. In this vein, I do like Dragon Throne of Tarkir in your list; you should consider running Batterskull and/or Sword of Fire and Ice . Sword of Truth and Justice , from Modern Horizons, is another card you may want to consider -- I think its price will go down, at least a little.

Deftblade Elite is an interesting creature you should consider. It's good for removing the single blocker your opponent might have, especially if the blocker would kill something important of yours.

That's all I got. Good luck with deck building!

Yeah and I love Deftblade Elite since I can prevent the damage if none of my options are favorable. I just wish any of the other green or white provoke creatures were worth the cost. Swooping Talon I might consider since the flying gets damage in regardless of Mirri and can make a non-flyer block for a mana. But the casting cost is just so high for that effect.

Thanks. Deftblade Elite and Krosan Vorine at least allow me to force a block which thanks to Mirri is the only one they get. I’m looking for anything along those lines.

All in all, I like the 'package' you've built here.

I don't feel like cards that only have a single keyword add a significant value to the deck. That means Adorned Pouncer, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Silverblade Paladin, Loyal Unicorn, Odric, Master Tactician, Soltari Champion and Deftblade Elite. Out of those, the most value would come from the two 2-drops for an aggressive curve early game. I would probably add Mirran Crusader and Burnished Hart as well, and Soltari Visionary is also worth some consideration.

Collective Effort and Phyrexian Rebirth are both... pretty mediocre, in my opinion. Maybe swap those for Rout and Planar Cleansing (or maybe Unexpectedly Absent) instead? I also don't think the deck really NEEDS Tithe and could maybe play something along the lines of Mind's Eye or Surveyor's Scope if you really need the early ramp. Oblation should maybe be Crush Contraband, since you're pretty good as far as creature removal goes. I would also highly recommend running Swiftfoot Boots, since Odric radiates both Haste and Hexproof and the former is especially valuable to you, imo.

In your mana base, there's really no excuse NOT to play all of Strip Mine, Tectonic Edge and Ghost Quarter so you can handle something like Gaea's Cradle or Volrath's Stronghold. You might also want to run Scavenger Grounds so you can do something against graveyards. Maybe add Sentinel Totem or Relic of Progenitus to that list for some consistency. You could also possibly run the cycling lands for white for some extra carddraw (at least the cycling desert seems worth it so you can exile graveyards twice?), but at some point you'll hurt your chances of activating Emeria.

Recommended Changes

IN: Soltari Visionary, Mirran Crusader, Burnished Hart, Rout, Planar Cleansing, Unexpectedly Absent, Mind's Eye, Crush Contraband, Swiftfoot Boots, Sentinel Totem, Strip Mine, Tectonic Edge, Ghost Quarter

OUT: Loyal Unicorn, Soltari Champion, Deftblade Elite, Collective Effort, Phyrexian Rebirth, Tithe, Oblation, Brimaz, King of Oreskos (the tokens don't get the bonuses, so they are kind of not great), Silverblade Paladin, Oblivion Ring (outclassed by other removal in your decklist), 4x Plains

I've done some playtesting with this and against it, I have some suggestions.Right now its biggest issue is not having a strong early game. 2/2's are ripe for removal, and every modern deck will have a fetchland sitting waiting to cast Path to Exile or Fatal Push whatever creature you get out there first. I like Knight of Sursi as a turn one play, but it still doesn't get you anything on the board. I'd recommend a one drop creature. Dauntless Bodyguard stays in tribal and is pretty nice, but is more of a later turn benefit with his ability. Deftblade Elite may work well in attracting targets for an aggro deck, since he has a built in Lure. Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip comes to mind as well.. Knight of the White Orchid is a pretty standard modern card, and you can always use ramp. I'm not a fan of Suq'Ata Lancer, I'd look more into ways of getting you bigger drop guys out there. I'd add some card draw Dragon Mantle helps with that and devotion.

Good build, the stacking flanking looks like it can add up quickly. I'm curious if the banding mechanic works well with flanking. Stinks that Jabari's Banner and Telim'Tor are banned in modern. Maybe this could work better as a legacy deck?

I'll be honest, the only reason I don't run suture priest is the art. Sword was what I had on hand, its been replaced with infiltration lens. I equip my Deftblade Elite with it since it has provoke. So it becomes pay 2 to draw 2, after a bit it just becomes draw 2 cause of my lords and anthems. I don't like Skullclamp cause it draws hate from my playgroup.I also totally forgot about Cathars' Crusade. The lantern is for group hug proposes.Never heard of Knight captain, so thanks for that mention.

Ride Down, Turn the Tables, Master Warcraft, Brutal Hordechief, and Deftblade Elite are great political tools and combat control cards. True Conviction might be better than rage reflection since they both cost 6 mana anyways. Solitary Confinement is easy to pay upkeep for if your the monarch. Dusk / Dawn could be great too even though it can kill the queen. Cheers.
