Weird, I refreshed before making the Myr. Giant creature, eh?

The Great Wall

Legendary Artifact Creature - Wall

Creatures you control gain +0/+3 and Vigilance

The Great Wall may block an unlimited number of creatures during combat.

0/21

Make something remniscent of Crossbow Infantry that would be good in more modern formats.

TypicalTimmy: There are tons of ways to perform such combos though, many dating further back than the likes of Nighthawk and even Thornbite. Viridian Longbow completely outclasses Wolfhunter's Quiver, for one. Deathbringer Thoctar + anything that gives it deathtouch can do the same without even having to tap, though it is 6cmc and 2 colors. Additionally, Thornbite Staff can be used for much more... degenerate combos than that. Anything that taps to make a token + Thornbite Staff + Any Sac Engine makes for infinite of whatever the sac engine nets you. Bonus points to Kazandu Tuskcaller for being a Shaman.

Regardless, the whole subject seems a bit of a far cry from the topic of "Ranged Strike", as pingers are a whole different animal tbh. You wouldn't use Crossbow Infantry in a combo like this.

Lands: Take out 2 Mountains, Stone Quarry, Cinder Barrens, and Forsaken Sanctuary and maybe the Guildgates if you want and add in at least one plains, Haven of the Spirit Dragon, any of the life gain dual lands from Tarkir... just use better duals than the strictly-worse guildgates. I have a personal issue with those lands. They insulted "Avatar the Last Airbender" once.

Creatures:

Things to pull: Ancient Hellkite works to slow, requires to much investment, and is too conditional. Forgestoker Dragon cuz it's clunky and slow compared to other things. (A lot of these suggestions will be cutting the worst of duplicate effects). Aegis Angel (above reason)? Wojek Embermage? Paragon of Open Graves cuz you don't have enough black to make its ability work. Scalding Salamander is too conditional. Either Vulshok Sorcerer or Blood Cultist. Crossbow Infantry. Stun Sniper. Painsmith because not enough artifacts.

Artifacts: That Which Was Taken cuz it's also too slow.

um Concerted Effort feels mandatory here,Cairn Wanderer feels especially powerful, Bone Picker isnt bad, and Vampire Cutthroat is worth a look especially with all your creatures having low power to compensate for keywords at low cmcs.

Quilled Sliver,Crossbow Infantry ,Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile and Steadfast Armasaur seem like decent (but more fragile) replacements for longbow, but Heart-Piercer Bow might be better.

I think that this can be a devastating SP and MP deck.

Greatbow Doyen and Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile are all-stars. Throw Trophy Hunter in there and you've got intense synergy. Scattershot Archer deals with flyers. Crossbow Infantry is great, if you pair him with Armadillo Cloak, Felidar Umbra, or Battle Mastery.

However, if you splash black, things get mean. You've got Phyresis, Sultai Runemark, and Aspect of Gorgon.

Archers synergize with any creature that is massive, but creates tokens for opponents, like Hunted Troll.

With some ramp, like Caravan Vigil and Rampant Growth, you can accelerate.

You'll need protection, so Crib Swap is an easy check, because you can easily deal with the 1/1. Same with Afterlife or Beast Within. Selesnya Charm is also good because of the options it provides. If you splash black, there's many more options available.

Pulse of Murasa is also good, but I wouldn't put too many in.

Lands that target creatures are absolutely hilarious with Willbreaker. Rogue's Passage is one of the best options. Sandstone Bridge, Skyline Cascade and Soaring Seacliff are other options in your colors. Ruins of Oran-Rief can be used against Eldrazi, so sideboard only at best.

Kytheon's Irregulars is another budget option for things you already have. Topplegeist is nice too, although you'll miss on the extra fun from delirium without some other changes. It's still a solid one drop.

And here's a random list of dirt cheap things that get those triggers in different ways: Beacon Hawk, Abuna Acolyte, Benevolent Ancestor, Crossbow Infantry, Jhessian Balmgiver, Viridian Longbow, Zealous Inquisitor. The last 3 are probably the most interesting and flexible even without Willbreaker in play.

TheRedGoat: White's combat tricks have actually degraded over time. They used to get what was called internally as "Ranged Strike" on cards such as Crossbow Infantry, but that was phased out over a decade ago. Since then, White's tricks have either been in global boosts - Brave the Elements, Honor of the Pure, or specific conditionals such as Righteousness that can only target a blocker.

Prowess was given to Blue because they lacked a trick of any sort, and when Wizards broke down the numbers, they recognized the Blue tended to have the fewest creatures, but the most Instants and Sorceries. So the decision was made to make this mechanic into a Blue Evergreen to synergize with these two facts - Blue doesn't get many creatures, but the ones they do get can be really good.

Red gets it as a secondary mechanic in order to bolster the color - I have an article in the pipeline describing this problem in a little more detail. They already like to cast Instants and Soceries as much as Blue does, so they also neatly work with the mechanic on some of their 'lesser' powered creatures.

Also, I am still accepting suggestions for future articles. Post on my profile or in the comments for that week's article if you want me to take a crack at something!
