Blackgate on Into The Wilds We Go! (Jund Midrange Adventure)

Thanks Dani3377! It’s a fun deck to play.

I think I’ll add another copy of Ob Nixilis, the Adversary - such a good card in the deck!

I have been struggling between Thoughtseize and Concealing Curtains  Flip for the 1-drop discard effect slot. I found Concealing Curtains  Flip good for a midrange deck as an early blocker as it stresses your opponent out in anticipation for the transformation (so it becomes a great way to rid your opponents hand if removal). If you had another card in mind to replace for Thoughtseize please let me know I will try your recommendation and actually try Thoughtseize with playtesting!

Thanks for the suggestion

Hello, Linker, and thanks for commenting!

A lot of your suggestions I think will change my deck. I'm going to add those lands, definitely move around some removal and discard, and Concealing Curtains  Flip is gonna replace Evolved Sleeper for sure as well. I will make some changes in just a few minutes, and then tell me what you think.

Hey mememan3310. First off, welcome back!

Some amount of removal is always necessary. Combo and Flying can be tough match-ups for Mono Black without enough discard/removal. 3-4 Fatal Push and 1-2 Murderous Rider are good options with 1-2 copies of Infernal Grasp I like 6-8 hard removal spells as Mono Black is typically a Mid-Range deck. Don't sleep on Gelatinous Cube either. I've stolen plenty of games with that card.

I would stick with 4 Duress and probably cut Agonizing Remorse since the only thing you really need to hit with discard in Mono-black are Non-creature spells. If you want something more versatile, Thoughtseize is your best option.

Sword-Point Diplomacy is a cute card draw spell, but they probably just let you draw the lands or irrelevant cards, (i.e. creature removal against planeswalkers). I personally prefer Sorin the Mirthless or Reckoner Bankbuster for card draw. Unwilling Ingredient is another pet favorite of mine although probably not what you should be running.

I know a lot of people run Evolved Sleeper The card just doesn't resonate with me. It often dies to removal after you've already sunk your mana into it. It reminds me of Hexdrinker in that it can be great if you max it out but getting there uninterrupted is difficult to pull off. I prefer Concealing Curtains  Flip and Knight of the Ebon Legion in the 1-drop spot.

Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Invoke Despair are two really solid finishers in Mono-Black. If you can swing Liliana of the Veil and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse you won't be disappointed.

There are so many good cards in Mono-Black that it is tough to squeeze everything in sometimes. 22 Lands seems too low. A single Takenuma, Abandoned Mire, Field of Ruin, and Hive of the Eye Tyrant are worth looking at as utility lands. I'd try to get 24-25 lands in there since most of the powerful Mono-Black spells fall in the 3+ MV range.

wolfhead Thanks for the suggestions! Going into blue is definitely tempting but the one thing I actually own in paper is the abzan mana base, so that would be tough on the wallet. Man Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive seems sweet tho. Shape the Sands and Concealing Curtains  Flip both seem sweet, but I'm at a loss on what I could swap them for. Really great suggestions!

Oh man well I gotta bring up Aegis Turtle again, I love that card and blue also gets you Sidisi's Faithful, Contraband Kingpin, and Deputy of Detention,

But Concealing Curtains  Flip is sweet, and what feels way back in the day I even ran Disowned Ancestor who was okay in board stalls,

God-Pharaoh's Faithful,

Lagonna-Band Trailblazer is cool with stuff like Shape the Sands,

And hear me out, a card that works great with both tower defense and ensnaring bridge is Ornithopter.

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive does as well.

Gilded Goose gets sweet as your mana curve gets lower,

Permeating Mass cracks me up if you focus more on assault formation and High Alert, But ive never gotten around to trying it.

And I guess Brokers Initiate is just a strict upgrade to Yoked Ox with her mana sink?

Arboreal grazer is sweet I'd definitely keep him and some harbingers

And I know it's a non-bo with collected company but I gotta make the obligatory statement about how sweet Lingering Souls is with tower defense,

Though is it too slow nowadays even with bridge? Shit I feel old. At least it can chump a giant murktide for a while
