Cherished Hatchling

Creature — Dinosaur

When Cherished Hatchling dies, you may cast Dinosaur spells this turn as though they had flash, and whenever you cast a Dinosaur spell this turn, it gains "When this creature enters the battlefield, you may have it fight another target creature."

I'm so happy that we got this lovely little theme going. Ixalan is probably my favorite plane, next to Mirrodin/New Phyrexia. It's what brought me back to magic singlehandedly. I miss the cycles, the lore. We only ever got a cycle of two hatchlings, one in red, another in green, but no flyer for white. It's a bit of a bummer if I'm honest. Wish we h- lol I got it.

Make a mythic, nonlegendary white dinosaur hatchling for the hatchling cycle. Raptor Hatchling , Cherished Hatchling , and then your creation here~

In uninterested, lets make another Grixis pirate commander for Ixalan, seems only fair since every other tribe has two really strong options and pirates really only received the one from the plane.

Some thoughts:

  • i’m surprised Ripjaw Raptor isn’t in the deck, as it’s one of the best dinos out there, especially backed-up by cards that can let it fight. Similarly, Ranging Raptors is better than most of the other dinos you’re currently running.

  • you should defo be running the full playset of Savage Stomp.

  • your mana curve is waaay too high. Look to run some lower-cmc cards.

  • you’re currently running what i would consider to be a bunch of “trash dinos”. I’d suggest removing the following: Snapping Sailback, Thrash of Raptors, Raging Swordtooth, Cherished Hatchling, Crested Herdcaller. I’d also consider Raging Regisaur pretty “meh”.

  • other cards to consider adding are Drover of the Mighty and Rile, though you’ll get your biggest upgrade by adding a third colour to the deck (white) - there are loads of strong dino effects in that third colour.

Search drops the basic land untapped. This makes it equivalent, unless you have an upkeep trigger that has to be sequenced before it.

If you're looking for fun, on-theme stuff I'd look at Cherished Hatchling and Scout's Warning/Savage Summoning. Enrage alongside flash feels a lot better, and backed by some funstuff like Favor of the Mighty can make for interactive matchups with more depth than pure beatdown.

I feel like 4xUtopia Sprawl and 4xArbor Elf would help with the ramp here.

Rampaging Ferocidon feels like its better in the side.

Frilled Deathspitter for 3 cost Deathmist Raptor, Runic Armasaur or Rampaging Ferocidon is better

regisaur alpha if your ramping i think more than 1 would be better

Cherished Hatchling just doesn't do enough. its a 1 turn flash fight.

Raging Regisaur Seems pretty strong think you should give it a test

Reckless Rage Could be a good way to trigger Enrage

Lightning Bolt Just a great card

Garruk Wildspeaker Good if you want to ramp to big dinos also

Kessig Wolf Run just a amazing land to have 1 or 2 of in the deck

Birds of Paradise Just better than Llanowar Elves.

I recommend this:

replace your Nest Robber with Cherished Hatchling.

more fun enrage: Ripjaw Raptor, Ranging Raptors :D

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the list! While this deck is more heavily based on creatures I also find that RNG can be a pain to rely on for the most part. I think that in a best case scenario Gishath, Sun's Avatar can bring HUGE board presence but I agree about the consistency of Zacama, Primal Calamity. Stuffy Doll is actually a great idea and I think I'm going to play around with it to see what it can bring because you're definitely onto something about its potential. I will admit that I have considered Cherished Hatchling and haven't ruled it out, you're right about the shenanigans it can present. Thanks for the suggestions and the +1!
