Blaze of Glory

Instant

Cast Blaze of Glory only during combat before blockers are declared.

Target creature defending player controls can block any number of creatures this turn. It blocks each attacking creature this turn if able.

Niko9 on What I Learned About This …

Ha, happens to everyone from time to time, I'm sure : ) A while back I had started making a deck with the original Kami samurais and infinite block cards like Blaze of Glory and Valor Made Real because I thought that bushido gave your creature a bonus for each creature it blocked. The idea was that Sensei Golden-Tail or Araba Mothrider would get +1 for each block and could wall decks going wide. Heh, I play against decks going wide a lot : ) But, sadly, it doesn't work that way, and my dream of actually using bushido effectively was squashed, wholly : )

If you are still playing this deck I'd like to offer some unexpected jank which goes very well with Stuffy Doll effects. Blaze of Glory, Formation banding works on defense as well as offense, Martyrdom and Shaman en-Kor which really works in the best worst kind of way.

Cheers!

Nice deck! I love a good aura deck. It just feels very old school magic goodness, you know?

I can think of a few things from my white deck that may or may not help. Up to you, but I figured I'd mention.

Sejiri Shelter  Flip is a great MDFC that can take a land slot. It can save you creatures in a pinch or power through that Serra Avatar for a KO.

Blaze of Glory effects can be really funny/oddly powerful with protection and umbras. Things like Entangler Valor Made Real Guardian of the Gateless Give No Ground Palace Guard I kind of love valor made real. You don't always end up playing it, but when you do, it's a huge surprise. And you can even throw it on an opponent's creature if it seems like it will swing something big. One of my favs is to Darksteel Mutation one of my creatures if I don't need it for removal and then put an Entangler on it : )

Sevinne's Reclamation can get you back some of your auras and most important, it can get back Prison Term Darksteel Mutation and other removal enchantments back, which can really be powerful.

Cast Out is a little expensive, but it's really nice that it can hit a variety of things at instant speed. Exiling things to break up combos can be really useful. And cycling is kinda nice sometimes.

Might think of some other ones. My decks are packed up right now, but that's what I could think up off the top of my head. Not sure if it helps or not, but just throwing some ideas : )

Oh and Moon-Blessed Cleric gives you a tutor and a decent body to put auras on. Every time I play her I feel like she's way better than I thought she'd be.

I updated my Avacyn build a couple weeks back. Had to sell some key pieces (Mana crypt) cause I had to pay some bills.. I've kept it as up to date as possible. Have a look through when you get a chance.

I ordered the following this week:

Boon Reflection - I won a game recently with 1 life left.. It's too risky to not have more life gain in my build.

Beacon of Immortality See above.

Key to the City Evasion and draw.

Dust to Dust Too many artifact builds.

Rebuff the Wicked Counterspell

Blaze of Glory Too many damn token decks have taken me down.

Keep me informed when you start to build! Can't wait to see it! Hopefully I'll be getting the judge promo soon which looks gorgeous.

Interesting. Almost like a modal Fog, with an option of spot removal or to pave a way for an attack. I will have to think on that. Thanks for pointing out the obvious, that I don't have to be the beneficiary of the Blaze of Glory to benefit from Blaze of Glory.

Those are interesting suggestions. Blessed Reversal seems fun, but it is basically a fog for decks that go wide, but mostly worthless for decks that go tall. In the right circumstances, it is probably great. Blaze of Glory is a nice Fog if you have a creature out, and doubles as a sweeper if it targets a deathtouch creature. I may consider both of these cards, and either could end up as an alternate or sideboard card. Both could be good in the right meta.

I had previously considered Fire Covenant, but it is not quite right. If I could target a player, it would be an auto include. Since it is only good for creatures, I think I can find better alternatives.
