Ancient Ooze

Creature — Ooze

Ancient Ooze's power and toughness are each equal to the total converted mana cost of other creatures you control.

Always liked Ancient Ooze, just big and stompy. No counters tho :(

Acidic Slime is another nice versatile ooze.

I'll just go through the mainboard cards I would personally cut first. Ancient Ooze : very big but requires trample or the like to actually do anything at 7 mana. Copper Myr : almost objectively worse here than most green mana dorks. Ezuri's Archers : not impactful enough in the main without a devotion or elf theme. Ghoultree : your creatures are too big to be dying that often and you want them alive anyway. Lumberknot : similar story to Ghoultree. Spawnwrithe : needs to be built around. Wall of Tanglecord : wastes the benefits of any Overrun effects. Predator's Rapport : more of a sideboard card unless burn is really popular. Reclaim : very slow and lacking enough good targets. Serpent's Gift : redundant and inefficient if you just run enough deathtouch creatures. Tower Defense : are there really enough flyers going around to have this in the main? Windstorm : see above. Spider Spawning : if this is what you're running Transguild Promenade for, it's not worth it without more GY synergy. Accorder's Shield : vigilance isn't impactful enough with no exert, tap abilities, or much else to abuse it. Brawler's Plate : very costly for the buff. Golden Urn : much worse than even the Rapport. Staff of the Wild Magus : staffs aren't even strong enough to do well in dedicated lifegain decks, unfortunately.

I'd say all of your maybeboard picks are better than the aforementioned cards. I'll list some other alternatives that come to my mind though. Primordial Hydra and Kalonian Hydra are some budget-unfriendly but highly dangerous beaters that you can get out relatively early. Joraga Treespeaker (or maybe Elvish Archdruid ) would make your archers much better by letting them double as mana dorks. Otherwise, I like Arbor Elf with Utopia Sprawl type auras on your forests to help ramp. If you prefer the vigilance idea, Champion of Rhonas is a budget Elvish Piper that likes not tapping in combat. If you like walls, Overgrown Battlement and Axebane Guardian can get ridiculous mana going. They also benefit from Assault Formation which synergizes with Tower Defense. In terms of small creatures with reach, Traproot Kami is my clear pick for mono-green, especially in multiplayer. If you need to add trample, Rancor is excellent value. If you need recursion, Eternal Witness should be near the top of the list. If you're struggling with flyers, maybe try Gravity Well . If you need more life, Engulfing Slagwurm likes forced blocks while Verdant Sun's Avatar likes playing beefy guys.

Given what you have already, I think shifting to include more deathtouch creatures and Lure s would be the most optimal plan. Viridian Longbow and Thornbite Staff are some other equipment that benefit from that strategy. For the creatures, Ohran Frostfang is a casual-only option that's completely busted in commander, and I'm always a sucker for Wasteland Viper 's versatility at only 1 mana.

Please remember to link your cards using double brackets:

[[ancient ooze]]

[[Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma]]

Ancient Ooze

Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma

Yes, this will work.

Ancient Ooze 's ability is a "Characteristic-defining ability" (Rule 604.3):

Some static abilities are characteristic-defining abilities. A characteristic-defining ability conveys information about an object's characteristics that would normally be found elsewhere on that object (such as in its mana cost, type line, or power/toughness box) or overrides information found elsewhere on that object. Characteristic-defining abilities function in all zones. They also function outside the game.

The red part is the most relevant portion here--the characteristic-defining ability of Ancient Ooze functions in all zones. Since Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma has a converted mana cost of 4, Ancient Ooze will always be at least a 4/4 if you're attempting to cast it while Goreclaw is in play.

Snickles@EDH_only on Her Royal Fluffness

Love the concept! gota couple suggestions, figured I'll accordian them to keep from filling up the whole page.

Predator, Flagship is costly, but lets be honest - mono-green doesn't care about that. giving flight for troops to evade or block, anti-aircraft cannons, and the tractor beam to lift up enemy ground-pounders, this colorless removal engine is worth evey mana spent on it.

Arena + Combat step: Declare attackers. Before blockers, activate arena, Choosing one of your tapped attacking creatures. the creature picks a fight before blockers, potentially giving a 2-1 for you if they block afterwards, but otherwise taking out a blocker and still getting all their damage through.

Genesis is amazing for recusion, if that's your thing (I know it's mine, but not everyone elses), and it's a 3 drop if you hard cast it with Her fluffiness on the field.

Trolls of Tel-Jilad offers regen for your forces (or allies, in exchange for favors...)

Krosan warchief acts like a mini trolls of T-J for beasts, and reduces their cost as well. more a niche card, but worth mentioning if you end up going that route.

Weatherseed Treefolk is fragile, but returns to hand when killed.

Phytotitan is even more fragile, but returns for free

Masked Admirers is a card drawing chump blocker. while it doesn't get the cost reduction, it definatly will dish out the damage over a game with trades. and the card draw for ETB is icing on the cake.

Gurzigost is a wierd huge guy that smashes face, all for the low low cost of ... recycling your graveyard. oh no... /endsarcasm

Ulvenwald Hydra grows based on your land base, and fetches a land as an etb trigger. added bonus: has reach to deal with fliers.

Oran-Reif Hydra grows to monstrous sizes as the game progresses. not all that exciting, but cheap ($ wise)

Dungrove Elder is completely worth the G mana cost once you hit 4 lands, and will only get bigger as the game goes on.

Terra Stomper , Carnage Tyrant , Chameleon Colossus , Kodama of the North Tree , Kalonian Behemoth , Gaea's Revenge , and Ancient Ooze just do what they normally do with efficiency: smash. they aren't pretty or fancy, but they are cost efficient before your general's discount, so they smash hard for cheap.

Skysnare Spider has the two most important keywords for green multiplayer: vilgilance and reach

Hydra Omnivore lets you get damage through defenses of players by ignoring that player entirely and focusing elswhere.

Indrik Stomphowler and Conclave Naturalists might be good replacements for reclaimation sage, with you commander out they cost the same. Destructor Dragon acts the same on death, but hits planeswalkers and lands as well.

Woodfall Primus is a solid (abet later game) removal that returns to work again.

World Breaker acts as an exile, and is colorless to boot. added benefits are reach and recurrable.

Wickerbough Elder gets the cost reduction, despite being a 3/3 base when cast.

Cloudthresher acts a a Squall for 4, with a 7/7 reach attached to it.

Tornado Elemental will usually act as a mini Whirlwind , and comes in as a 6/6 Thorn Elemental . not cheap mana-wise, but typically less than $.50

Wolfbriar Elemental lets you dump green into a token army of 2/2s if you need to spread out the love or create some chump blockers. quantity has it's own quality sometimes.

Vorapede is a undying buggy with vigilance for 3 when your general is out

Thornling is a solid all-round stomper that is hard to deal with, via indistructable and increasable toughness.

Thrun, the Last Troll is another hard to deal with threat: hexproof, uncounterable, and regenerate means not a whole lot can touch him.

Spearbreaker Behemoth can act as a duribility booster by giving indistructibility

Krosan Drover is a good card for the really expensive creatures, giving another cost reduction.

Ulvenwald Observer is a solid card-draw engine for the deck when things die

Nessian Game Warden lets you sift through your deck based on forests in play

Ripjaw Raptor lets you draw off of combat (and even more off Arena )

Silverglade Elemental is a 4/4 Wood Elves with your general in play.

Brooding Saurian is typically just a sideboard card against control matchups, but worth mentioning all the same.

Stone-Tongue Basilisk is a cheap ($ wise) little guy that can field-wipe an opponent if you time a swing right.

Kamahl, Fist of Krosa should go in every green deck that he can. this goes double for mono-green. Overrun as an repeatable instant? check. wrath countermeasures? Living Plane that only hits opponents for G per land. totally worth it.

I love your deck man! Have my own Mayael deck as well, though im not really playing it right now since my friends would immediately try to kill me when I brought it out! Also, I didn't even know Ancient Ooze even existed! Such a bizarre card!

StumpyIB on Selvala ... Big Creatures, $50 Limit

I have a couple of suggestions if I may! I love mono-green decks. While not budget, my Omnath, Locus of Creature Ramp is my favorite deck.

I have a few suggestions for beatsticks: Colossus of Akros (my favorite Magic card), Ancient Ooze, Bellowing Tanglewurm, and Thunderfoot Baloth are some great low cost options

Some other cards maybe to look at: Whispersilk Cloak, Nature's Lore, Somberwald Sage, and maybe through in a Worldspine Wurm if you can find something to replace it with that keeps your total deck cost down.

HashMasta on Selvala's Big Dudes

Consider me overboard for giving you more suggestions but I have a soft spot for selvala. When I first started playing commander selvala was my first deck. It was a crappy deck but I made it better over some time.

Anyways some other cards that I went home to look up and find in decks/binders you might want to look at

Growing Rites of Itlimoc I finished opening a booster box of ixalan and I pulled this. I put this in my tribal elves deck but im not sure how it would do here. try it out maybe it will be good

Asceticism The problem with playing against control decks is that they often kill/take your biggest threats on the board. but having this prevents it. and if someone board wipe you can regenerate them

Praetor's Counsel in commander many people will have boardwipes. Many will manipulate your hand/deck. this card ensures that whatever you lose comes right back and you can draw as many cards as you want

Triumph of the Hordes this is pretty much an instant win in most cases. Give all your 10/10 and 12/12 another +1/+1, trample, and infect...goodnight

Shamanic Revelation draw a bunch of cards, gain a bunch of life, seems dec :D

Craterhoof Behemoth Another one of those game winning cards. if you have a 12/12, all your other creatures get 12/12 and trample...goodnight

Hydra Omnivore overall board damage

Worldspine Wurm 15/15 trampler turn into 3 5/5 tramplers

Sylvan Primordial tutor for lands and get rid of opposing threats

Ancient Ooze not a big creature but it can destroy your opponents major threats

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon Good board removal overall with low cost threats and can get rid of chump blockers. And can refill your hand while playing your biggest threats

Collective Voyage fun card to play. search for an abundance of lands while playing kind of a group hug early on. These kinds of things make people wanna target you less so you can build up without having to mostly worry about an enemy on your back

See the Unwritten freecast a card from the top 8 of your library

Burgeoning good way to dump out your lands early on

Early Harvest I was comparing this with omnath and i realized that this can be a big threat if omnath is on the board. if you decide not to run omnath i would not run this but just a neat little combo

Ground Seal Great if your playing against reanimator. just shuts them down

Spring Cleaning one of my most favorite decks that i play with currently is a karametra enchantress deck. it is very prison control heavy and filled with enchantments. so cards like this can really ruin my day. just kinda figure out who plays what at your table

Genesis Wave if you build up a lot of mana, you can cast this with x being 10 and can usually get 3-5 things out. even if it is not as high as 10, it is still a good card

Hope these cards will help you to. If you want to swap out some cards, feel free to ask what to swap i might help
