jmallette1's deck:

deck-large:vigilante-aggression

Piloting jmallette1's deck will be our good buddy Sectoid. Sectoid knows Caley's deck, but Caley has taken an oath to not preview the enemy deck in detail ever since he put in Slaughter Games; he only knows the colors of the deck.

Comments from Sectoid are in bold and those from Caley are in italics.

Game 1

Sectoid wins the toss and plays first. He mulls to 6 on an opener of Plains, Champion of the Parish, Skyknight Legionnaire, Silverblade Paladin, Spark Trooper, Madcap Skills, Kessig Malcontents.

can't keep it.

Caley keeps an opener of Swamp, Drowned Catacomb, Watery Grave, Dragonskull Summit, Desolate Lighthouse, Chromatic Lantern, Slaughter Games.

Risky to keep against a deck with "aggression" in the name, but if he's going down to six, I feel like chancing it.

Sectoid keeps a 6 hand of Mountain, Plains, Champion of the Parish, Gather the Townsfolk, Silverblade Paladin, Rally the Peasants

hell yeah.

Turn 1

Sectoid plays Plains for Champion of the Parish and passes.

Human deck, probably with tokens.

Caley draws Nephalia Drownyard. He plays Watery Grave tapped and passes.

Gulp.

Turn 2

S plays Mountain and casts Gather the Townsfolk. Then he attacks with the 3/3 Champion and hits. (S 20, C 17). He passes.

C draws Drowned Catacomb. He plays Swamp and passes.

Lands, I love you very much, and I'm glad you're here in such abundance, but just head on down lower in the deck for now, ok?

Turn 3

S draws Silverblade Paladin. He casts Madcap Skills on a token, then attacks with everything, hitting. (S 20, C 10). He passes.

C draws Chromatic Lantern, plays Dragonskull Summit, casts Chromatic Lantern, and passes.

I've already lost, but I might as well see what else he casts.

Turn 4

S draws Madcap Skills. He casts it on the other token and attacks with everything and hits. (S 20, C 1). He passes.

C draws Dragonskull Summit, plays it, casts Chromatic Lantern, and passes.

Turn 5

S draws Spark Trooper and attacks with all his creatures for lethal damage.

where are his kill spells?

Sideboarding

pretty self-explanatory

Caley boards out 3x Devour Flesh and 2x Slaughter Games for 3x Illness in the Ranks and 2x Cyclonic Rift.

I know he's going to put in Witchbane Orb, so I'm going to ditch my player-targeting stuff since I have just-as-useful alternatives.

Game 2

Caley plays first. He mulligans a hand of 4 lands, 2x Chromatic Lantern, and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker.

Maybe I left my actual Bolas deck at home and confused it with the deck that has 40 lands in it.

Sectoid keeps an opener of Mountain, Plains, Champion of the Parish, Gather the Townsfolk, Silverblade Paladin, and 2x Oblivion Ring.

Caley keeps an opener of Sulfur Falls, Drowned Catacomb, Dragonskull Summit, 2x Barter in Blood, and Illness in the Ranks.

S draws Clifftop Retreat. He does nothing and passes.

Turn 14

S draws Plains, plays it, and passes.

Turn 15

C draws Counterflux. He plays Mountain and passes.

I like drawing all these Counterfluxes. This is good.

S draws Plains, plays it, and passes.

c'mon, just need another Boros Charm or something.

Turn 16

S casts Boros Charm at C, but it runs into Counterflux

Wow, glad I did that.

Turn 22

C draws Sulfur Falls. Bolas blows up Clifftop Retreat and C passes.

S draws Mountain and concedes.

Sideboarding

S removes 2x Thatcher Revolt for 2x Skullcrack.

too many Illness in the Ranks.

C makes no changes.

Thoughts

Very nice aggro deck! Bolas had trouble keeping up, especially before the sideboarding. Got very close to shutting things down in game 3 despite the mull to 6, but couldn't quite keep my counterspell mana up. Gambled that he wouldn't draw anything that could damage me that very turn and lost, but such is life.

awesome human deck. i don't really like Madcap Skills and Rally the Peasants, but they do seem to work well.

Wow that's an awesome aggro deck. That much damage in game 1 that fast? Ridiculously scary.

Sectoid sucks at playing aggro. I read through it and found so many ways to do more damage and take less from shocks and stuff.

In game 2, after casting Dreadbore on the Silverblade Paladin... what happened to the tokens? You were dead on board.

March 4, 2013 10:29 a.m.

DarkHero says... #6

yeah looks like game 2 should have been a win because you still had 2 1/1 human tokens. He casts Gather the Townsfolk on turn 5 and the tokens are never destroyed, and turn 9 he swings with a Silverblade Paladin with Rally the Peasants, but if he had also swung with the 2 tokens, who were also effected by the Rally, it was GG.

Game 2, Turn 6: "C draws Drowned Catacomb . He plays it and casts Barter in Blood , killing the tokens. He passes."

Very intense matchup. In Game 2, why did Nephalia Drownyard completely vanish after just 1 activation? KrazyCaley activated it once right after playing it, then there was the series of turns where literally nothing happened.

March 4, 2013 1:39 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #9

@Rhadamanthus - This was I think my third match using Nephalia Drownyard. Was very bad about using it properly.

March 4, 2013 5:33 p.m.

Game 3, turns 1 and 2. Sectoid plays Clifftop Retreat followed by Sacred Foundry and pays 2 life. Is there a reason for this? Granted, 2 life is not a big deal for an aggro deck, but why not save it by playing the foundry first?

March 4, 2013 5:53 p.m.

Game 2 could have gone very differently if that thalia hadn't been milled... which should have been impossible to do b/c he had the orb at at the time meaning you couldn't target him to mill him.

I feel like sectoid just forgot he had the slayers a lot.
