At the first sight, Morglen is a beautiful place, filled with wide-ranging savannahs and sunny glades of trees. However, as one ventures deeper into the forests, they will find darker areas and pools of stagnant water in increasing amounts. Morglen is inhabited primarily by elves, who have adapted to their new world.

At the beginning of Morglen’s history, the elves were all united. They had been brought from different planes, but they shared a common devotion to nature, continuing their efforts to protect the forests and savannahs of their new home, and formed a new clan called the Gladeparters. The clan formed a council with the intent of always sustaining the environment and the creatures that lived there. They hunt for food, but try to live in harmony with nature, taking only what they need and giving back in return.

The elves of Morglen live in huts and bowers in the forests, some on the ground and others suspended in the trees. Their villages are undeveloped because the elves wish to live on nature’s terms, instead of pushing it back in the name of “progress.” The only evidence of sophistication lies in their weapons and armor, which are forged at small foundries on the flatlands, far from the forests they call home.

The leader of the Gladeparters is an elder named Doreer. His skill with the magics of life and restoration are such that he still takes an active role in society after living for four hundred years. The other elves all respect his wisdom and trust in his strength.

As time passed, however, some of the younger generations became fascinated with the black mana of the swamps. They embraced the concept that death and decomposition were equally important to the circle of life as birth and growth, and believed that the old teachings, which focused on the living parts of the life cycle, were incomplete. The traditionalist Gladeparters rejected this belief as contrary to the principles they had always upheld, and the elves who followed these new beliefs formed their own faction, known as the Tharin’l.

The Tharin’l are led by an elf named Asphirith. Asphirith believes that all nature is important, but that the Gladeparters are blind to the role that death and decomposition play, and the power that they hold. Some of the Tharin’l have become necromancers, seeking to embody the beliefs they now hold. The tribes are still united by a shared ruling council, but the Tharin’l, influenced by the self-serving nature of the black mana they now wield, have begun to seek for control over the entire council.

Both tribes hold the order of nature at the foundation of their culture and are willing to die to preserve the balance, although the Gladeparters and Tharin’l find that the rifts between them grow ever wider as the years go by. The Gladeparters are aware of the intentions of the Tharin’l, but at the counsel of Doreer they wait, trusting that the order of nature will prevail in the end.
