From Simic to Mono-Green

FAMOUSWATERMELON, 10 years ago

After a bunch of testing, I decided to bring this thing to a Mono-Green build, because that just seems to suit it best. I got Soul of the Harvest getting me cards, we'll see how this version works out!

Had a horrible night at FNM finishing 2-3. One of my match losses was a control mirror UWb, but I had to mull to 5 game 2 and was stuck on 1 land for a LONG time. Other losses were against the a Temur aggro deck in game 3, in which I died holding counterspell, counterspell, crux, crux, crux, ultimate price, bile blight, stuck on 4 lands, while opponent flooded me with value creatures and finished me off with a timely and annoying Surrak Dragonclaw.

Then an Abzan control deck used Stain the Mind to take away my Ojutais game 2 after I tapped out to play Dragonlord Silumgar and steal his Courser of Kruphix. I wanted the value since I wasn't getting good draws. But he managed to kill my Silumgar anyway since he chose to keep in almost all of his removal after SB, and at that point, it was just wasting time until he finished me. Very hard to come back after that.

I feel like I tuned the deck to play the Den Protector/Deathmist Raptor kinds of decks, which I didn't see ALL night. My wins were against a mono green aggro build that was actually pretty scary and another SiegeRhino.dec kind of thing.

Another Update!

AwesomeK, 10 years ago

As I said before, I can't really cut down my land count, as I'm finding i'm opening up with 1 or no lands with any less than I currently have. People were saying that with so many lands and a low curve, I will be top decking lands forever after dropping my hand, but I've found i'm winning by like turn 6-8, so I'm not really concerned about land-drawing. As long as I am opening up with two lands, any buff, and an unblockable, I am pretty much set. Regarding think twice, I was testing around with it, I may see if I can find room for it, but I want to keep infiltrator in. Maybe cut two of him and run two of each? I'm testing around.

To A More Normal Build

Pugh-Pugh, 10 years ago

Decided to go with a more standard style.

2x Aven Mindcensor

4x Squadron Hawk

4x Spectral Procession

Pulled:

3x Spirit Bonds

3x Secure the Wastes

4x Nyx-Fleece Ram

I also changed my mana base adding 3 Windbrisk Heights and 8 total fetch lands to help thin out the deck. In minimal testing it has run well but more has to be done to get a better idea of how well this will work.

Nicholas3okada, 10 years ago

Play Midnight Guard and add Elemental Mastery to it, this allows you to tap Elemental Mastery + Midnight Guard and get 2 elemental tokens, which sets of Midnight Guards ability to untap him, which will then allow you to retap him for another 2 elemental's and so on and so on, do this around 20 times to get at least 40 tokens (which all have haist) and then just swing for the win... If your opponent try's to use a board wipe spell, just use either Cancel or Izzet Charm.

Sideboard fail

CommanderFun, 10 years ago

So, learning my local meta, I've found that very few are playing infect. I'm seeing a lot of stranger decks like grixis control, and high tide. There's also a lot of burn going around... so I'm trying to redo my sideboard. So, obviously, Melira, Sylvok Outcast is gone.

Is Elderscale Wurm a good Sideboard option against burn? I know it's great against the mirror...

Is Null Rod super important to have? I know that it's a basic hoser for Death and Taxes, stoneblade, and some maverick decks, but is that all?

(and, as always, I know i could use one more fetch and one more Bayou... and, as always, I'm working on it.)

Card's I need for this deck

legendarytaco74, 10 years ago

I've been checking around the web for other Kithkin decks, and I've seen Militia's Pride a few times, so I'm going to look into getting myself a couple of them for the deck. Any other suggestions are greatly welcomed!

Chot, 10 years ago

So I removed 2 Emeria, the Sky Ruin as there aren't any big game changing creature cards, and added 2 Elspeth, Knight-Errant. I've found it plays a little quicker. I also added some populate cards to the Maybeboard, there are a lot of Enchantments and Artifacts in my meta whereas Sundering Growth could see some real opportunity to populate.

Redux..

Metroid_Hybrid, 10 years ago

After some live playtesting against friends, I finally mainboarded Lightning Bolt, but more importantly I found a new card for this deck: Psychotic Fury..

Thoughts?

Nothing major, just switched in a foil Windswept Heath since I got one from a booster today, haha.

Retooling

Just resetting some things

removal options

Hawko0313, 10 years ago

now testing crib swap in the deck as a way to deal with creatures not easily removed by bolt/helix/electrolyze as a one of due to flamekin being able to fetch it. So far haven't had to use it as flickerwisp can temporarily remove the threat while swinging in for 4. side note stoking in a flickerwisp to deal with auras in response to a daybreak coronet or as a combat trick vs boggles can turn or win a game when pulled off.

mana updates

ISPKI, 10 years ago

Played the deck several times with some friends and found it to be somewhat slow. It could roll people turn 4 if I drew a good hand but it was very inconsistent. Modified the land base with some dual lands, scry lands, mana elves. Also - changed the pump cards a little, vines of vastwood proved to be superior providing both hexproof for 1g with +4+4 for an extra 1g. added viridescent whisps and oracles for more/cheaper draw power. Still looking for ways to accelerate it and might add counterspells soon. I found sheltering word was able to win me a couple games due to massive life gain against combos, but there are a few board wipes that I cannot deal with (mutilate)
