Food Chain UKkima.

Standard Food Chain deck with Demonic Consultation layering. If you've played FC General Tazri, Niv-Mizzet Reborn, or The First Sliver, this is basically that but in fewer colors. For tips on playing the deck, read Shaper's Food Chain First Sliver primer. It's technically a different deck, but it's similar enough that you could learn how to play FC Ukkima by learning how to play FC Sliver. The bare minimum to know is this:

  1. Play Food Chain.

  2. Play a cast-from-exile (CFE) creature (Eternal Scourge or Misthollow Griffin).

  3. Exile the CFE creature to Food Chain to make mana.

  4. Use that mana to cast the CFE creature from exile.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to gain infinite mana that can be spent on creatures.

  6. Cast Ukkima.

  7. Exile Ukkima to Food Chain. This triggers his ability and will drain an opponent for 2.

  8. Repeat 6 and 7 until all opponents are dead.

Instead I'll talk about the differences in playstyle between this deck, FC Sliver (the current best FC deck), and FC Sidisi, Brood Tyrant (the former best Sultai FC deck IMO).

Advantages compared to Sliver:

  • Combos through Deafening Silence.

  • Can consult more aggressively since all you need to win is Food Chain instead of Food Chain+Outlet (Ukkima is your outlet). It's extremely rare, but you can get to situations with Sliver where you can't win because either too many parts of the Lab Man package (Laboratory Maniac, Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, Thassa's Oracle, Demonic Consultation, Tainted Pact) or the Twister package (Timetwister, Noxious Revival, Regrowth/Reap, Extract, Assassin's Trophy, Swan Song) have been exiled because of a forbidden tutor. With Ukkima, however, as long as Food Chain isn't exiled and a CFE is, you can still win, so jam that consult!

  • No Squee, the Immortal means fewer dead draws and no slots spent on Entomb.

  • Destiny Spinner protects every part of the Food Chain combo from countermagic, unlike with Sliver where you still need to cascade into Silence at some point. Still doesn't protect Consult lines though.

  • Basically the same manabase consistency and speed as Sliver since it's 90% identical anyway. Technically not an advantage, just though I'd mention it.

  • 98 card deck as opposed to 99 makes for a very small increase in consistency overall.

Disadvantages compared to Sliver:

Advantages compared to Sidisi:

Disadvantages compared to Sidisi:

  • No elegant Hermit Druid or Flash+Protean Hulk layering (not that you need it). This makes it slightly slower since HD Hulk decks are all about speed.

  • Cannot use Ukkima to kill opponents that are protected by Veil of Summer.

This deck definitely is not better than Sliver, but it's easier to build and it's similar in a lot of ways. I'd recommend this to someone who is trying to build Sliver but doesn't have or want to buy white or red duals or to someone who encounters a lot of Deafening Silence in their meta.

I'm not going to make a budget build so don't ask.
