Introduction

I had a friend who wanted to play commander with the cash he had in his pocket, so I decided alright, time to build a $20 budget commander deck. I figured I'd build it on here to get any help needed.

This colorful build is a mono-black control deck, styled to play removal.dek while advancing the board, this enables the pilot to play cards rather indiscriminately, and with cards like Kothophed, we get loads of card draw.

You usually want to keep a hand with 3 or more lands or 2 lands and a 2 mana ramp piece. We run tons of interaction and our bombs are 6 mana plus, so we really lean in on having tons of mana in the early game and then flip into one of our many, many kill spells.

I've also put in ideas for upgrades since this deck can do however you want it to.

Manabase

Since we are mono colored, we really don't have to worry about our mana, allowing us to save money by running a list of entirely basics except for a Barren Moor and Polluted Mire which we hope to cycle but can absolutely play if needed.

UPGRADES

The very first upgrade I'd suggest is Reliquary Tower, as we draw TONS of cards with this deck, and unfortunately don't get to keep every piece of our toolbox.

From then on you can grab utility lands like Blast Zone, Bojuka Bog, Ghost Quarter, Wasteland and the like.

Also, big mana lands can be Cabal Coffers, Deserted Temple, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.

Of course, as you increase in such lands, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth becomes rather essential.
