Goblins in red/black with an emphasis on goblin token aggro and graveyard recursion while embracing the fun black and red/black sorceries mono-red decks like this miss out on.

If I could thematically boil this deck down, it's Frogtosser Banneret, Mad Auntie, Dralnu's Crusade, Krenko, Mob Boss, Impact Tremors, Grave Pact.

I obtained five bags of "junk" magic cards with a bunch of Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide, and Shards of Alara commons with a few uncommons (with a small smattering from elsewhere) from a White Elephant gift party, Christmas 2015. I looked through them in April '16 and decided to use what I had there. The only thing that inspired me--and resembled the beginnings of a functional deck--was the Boggarts and their synergy (plus, Wayne Reynolds does a ton of goblin art for MTG). I put the idea of "Goblin tokens, but with a black twist" to paper and set about acquiring the rest of the goblins.

General Strategy Show

I call this deck a "Secret-Krenko Deck" because in a lot of ways he's the commander. I try to get him going as much as I can via tutors and if he gets whacked Wort can bring him back.

One of the most frequent tutor targets is Goblin Recruiter. I'll fetch up Goblin Ringleader along with four other goblins--usually Skirk Prospector, Krenko, Mob Boss, Goblin Warchief and one other. It all depends on the situation/mana/board-state and how much time I think I have.

There are many payoffs for the go-wide strategy, such as Coat of Arms, Shared Animosity, and Impact Tremors--not to mention lords.

There are also a couple of combos where some of the pieces are already-good goblins, so I can sculpt my strategy with tutors to end the game a different way.

Combos and Interactions Show

There are three primary combo families in the deck: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Lightning Crafter, Conspicuous Snoop combo, and all the dirty Thornbite Staff stuff.

Conspicuous Snoop + Boggart Harbinger. Tutor Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to the top. Make NI copes of Conspicuous Snoop, then copy Boggart Harbinger and tutor up Sling-Gang Lieutenant or Mogg Fanatic for NI damage. Also combos with Impact Tremors, could combo with Pashalik Mons and a sac outlet, etc.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Lightning Crafter + a sac outlet, such as Ashnod's Altar or Skirk Prospector or Sling-Gang Lieutenant. Copy the Lightning Crafter and Champion Kiki-Jiki, tap for damage, sac the copied Lightning Crafter, and then Kiki-Jiki comes back with haste to do it all again. NI damage.

Thornbite Staff + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + any sac outlet (Skirk Prospector, Goblin Trashmaster*, sling-gang lieutenent, or Ashnod's Altar) gives NI token copies. This combined with the right Goblin, like Murderous Redcap or Beetleback Chief or Sling-Gang Lieutenant can win outright. Mogg Fanatic sacrifices himself so that wins on the spot too. Kiki-Jiki can also just make lots of value from making a couple of Goblin Matrons or Moggcatchers. Kiki-Jiki and Thornbite also go infinite with Goblin Sharpshooter. What a card.

Thornbite Staff + Krenko, Mob Boss + a sac outlet = NI goblin tokens. Add Impact Tremors or haste for the win.

I used to have Nim Deathmantle combos in the deck. Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar + goblins that come in with three or more creatures, i.e. Beetleback Chief or a Krenko, Mob Boss with haste. Sac goblins and re-equip for infinite goblin tokens. Can also possibly net infinite mana, depending. Works well with Impact Tremors and similar effects. It was a graveyard combo that worked with goblins so it seemed like a perfect fit. Problem is, it only works with Ashnod's Altar (or Skirk Prospector and Krenko, Mob Boss with haste and also creating 4+ goblins, which also isn't the easiest to set up) so I have to have two specific artifacts and one of three or four creatures to work. In practice it was very difficult to assemble so I removed the Nim Deathmantle.

Lorwyn and Onslaught basic land styles. I have one of each and almost all are foils.

I chose these two sets because they're the most goblin-y. I am particularly fond of Lorwyn swamps generally.

Cards to get: Show

I feel like I need one or two more draw effects (leaning toward Wheel of Misfortune, Ambition's Cost, Ancient Craving, Damnable Pact, Greed, or Erebos, God of the Dead). Species Specialist is an interesting choice too. Wort gives card advantage but I still run out of gas before long. Despite that, I still feel like this deck is resilient.

Badlands maybe? It's the only "good" dual land I don't have yet--for obvious rea$ons.

Diabolic Intent is a great tutor in this deck. Do I need another? I do have combos and highly desirable Goblins to find. Probably.

Wheel of Fortune would be an upgrade, I'm $ure... Wheel of Misfortune might be worth a slot though.

Haunting Voyage would be good and on-theme. Can't find room for it.

Cards I own that might get in or used to be in: Show

Throne of the God-Pharaoh -- seems great but I don't know what I would cut. A little bit win-more but it's so good and a favorite card of mine.

Dolmen Gate -- great in any aggro deck. Bonus points for being from Lorwyn.

Goblin Marshal -- I don't love it as a card compared to the better cards in the deck, but it was another target for the Nim Deathmantle combo and good for Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Ashnod's Altar set-ups.

Sensation Gorger -- I felt like I wanted to keep my hand too often and disrupting other players' hands didn't seem as potent as I thought it would be--mostly due to the unreliability of the trigger. I think I'd rather have normal card draw, which is easier in {B}. Better for mono-Red Krenko decks.

Knucklebone Witch -- I want as many black goblins in as possible and I like how it's a one-drop, but I've never seen it pop off. Seems like a win-more card but it remains in the periphery.

Mogg Maniac -- Good-ish rattlesnake, decent chump blocker to reanimate over and over. Combo'd it once with Blasphemous Act but it wasn't as exciting as I thought.

Scour from Existence, Unstable Obelisk, Spine of Ish Sah, Perilous Vault, Oblivion Stone -- enchantments can ruin our game plan and are generally good.

Nim Deathmantle -- Part of an infinite combo with Ashnod's Altar and goblins that can bring in 3+ creatures, i.e. Beetleback Chief or Krenko, Mob Boss with haste. Was too unreliable due to needing two specific artifacts, despite lots of tutors.

Caterwauling Boggart - It usually was fine and pulled it's weight, but it got cut for upgrades. Definitely didn't hate it

Goblin Lackey and Warren Instigator - Not the best cards late-game. Usually did not impress. Way better in 60-card decks, I think. Would probably run it in mono-Red.

Battle Squadron - Usually not too upset to see this card. The damage is certainly win-more but the flying would come in handy all the time. Wouldn't mind seeing it stay but it got cut for upgrades.

Eldrazi Monument - A pretty good anthem, but I cut it for some combo cards. Will Coat of Arms and Shared Animosity, plus Lords, be enough?
